Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 2169 comments It struck me it was time to open nominations for a group read for February.

Once we get enough nominations, I'll open a poll.

Two nominations to a person, please.

What book about the Tudors or Tudor England would y'all like to read?

message 3: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca (rebeccasg) I'd like to nominate The Tudor Secret by C.W. Gortner

message 4: by Helene (new)

Helene Harrison (tudorblogger) The Queen's Promise by Lyn Andrews and The White Princess by Philippa Gregory.

message 5: by Carolyn (new)

Carolyn | 29 comments How about Susan Higgenbothan's new book on The Woodvilles. Mine is coming tomorrow from Amazobn.

message 6: by Samantha (new)

Samantha (samanthajw) | 91 comments Love's Will by Meredith Whitford

message 7: by Carolyn (new)

Carolyn | 29 comments I realize after posting that Susan Higginbothans book is more War of the Roses. This leads up to the Tudors reign but precedes it. Maybe for another month.

The Woodvilles are an interesting family and one of the daughters and granddaughters marries into the Tudors.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 2169 comments Yeah, I think that Susan Higginbothan might be more for a side-read, though it (I take it you mean The Woodvilles: The Wars of the Roses and England's Most Infamous Family?) looks really interesting, but not quite Tudor. Unless there's a lot about Elizabeth of York?

message 9: by Catherine (new)

Catherine | 2 comments The Secret Bride this is a good series

message 10: by Allison (new)

Allison They all sound good :) most are already in my tbr pile.

message 11: by Duane (new)

Duane Parker (tduaneparkeryahoocom) | 11 comments I'm going to recommend Innocent Traitor by Alison Weir, again.

message 12: by Carolyn (new)

Carolyn | 29 comments Suzanna, that is the book I meant. It is brand new so I don't know exactly who is talked about more. I would assume Elizabeth of York would be in it. It is coming via Amazon tomorrow.

What about Elizabeth of York by Alison Weir? Leandro de Lisle new book about the Tudors is very good. Very readable and informative. Tudor: Passion, Manipulation, Murder. The story of England's most notorious royal family.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 2169 comments Elizabeth of York is our current Group Read, actually!

The discussion is here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/... .

Tiffany Day | 71 comments I'm for the Sansom - reading it now and am having a tough time deciding which to pick up each day - that one or EoY! lol

message 25: by Barbara (new)

Barbara Kyle Hello fellow Tudor lovers. I'd like to nominate The Queen's Captive featuring the two daughters of Henry VIII: Mary I and her half-sister Princess Elizabeth.

Second I'd nominate Blood Between Queens featuring Elizabeth I and her cousin Mary Queen of Scots in their deadly rivalry for the English crown. Both are novels in my Thornleigh Saga.

The Queen's Captive (Thornleigh, #3) by Barbara Kyle
Blood Between Queens (Thornleigh, #5) by Barbara Kyle

Thanks for your consideration.

People here have nominated some wonderful books!

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 2169 comments Carolyn, or anyone else who might already have the Woodville book: how much of it is about the family in the Tudor period, or about Elizabeth of York?

message 27: by Carolyn (new)

Carolyn | 29 comments My book didn't come from Amazon yesterday. Must have been the cold weather that got it! As soon as it does I will answer your question.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 2169 comments Thanks, Carolyn, that would be great. I hope it shows up today! (It's a balmy 21 here in S.C.)

message 29: by Elena (new)

Elena | 73 comments The Woodvilles looks amazing, but probably not very Tudor-themed. Maybe one month we could do a special-themed group read when we choose a book about the War of the Roses? What do you guys think?

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 2169 comments We could do that one month, sure.

message 31: by Ariel (new)

Ariel | 19 comments I like the idea of the Woodville book. My second choice would be the white princess.

message 32: by Jo (new)

Jo March | 22 comments Seconding the Anna Whitelock bio of Mary.Mary Tudor: Princess, Bastard, Queen

message 33: by Susanna - Censored by GoodReads, Mod #4 (last edited Jan 10, 2014 01:29PM) (new)

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 2169 comments Well, I think we've got a good field of nominations; I'll go make a poll.

ETA: I left out The Woodvilles; next month we'll do a War of the Roses special.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 2169 comments Poll is open! You can find it on the group's home page, or here: https://www.goodreads.com/poll/show/9... .

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 2169 comments Well, if we still have a tie when the poll closes, I'll open a new runoff poll. (I'll be interested to see what happens.)

message 36: by Barbara (new)

Barbara Kyle Just a note to let you all know of the Goodreads giveaway my publisher posted yesterday: 25 advance copies of my Elizabethan adventure The Queen's Exiles. Do enter! https://www.goodreads.com/giveaway/sh...

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 2169 comments A runoff it is! Mary Boleyn: The Mistress of Kings and The White Princess tied for the lead.

Runoff poll is here: https://www.goodreads.com/poll/show/9... , or on the front page of the group.
