SOLVED: Adult Fiction > The "I'm just asking was implied" book set in maybe Switzerland in a hospital or clinic - one of the Doctors ALWAYS says "I'm just asking" One time she doesn't - and the response is "The I'm just asking is implied". Funniest joke - it's a long joke [s]

Peter ***Now Solved***

Hi everyone,

I've tried everywhere with this. Years ago I read this book. I wondered if it's John Irving - but I've not found it to be there.

The story is loosely about a family member who has a ?grandad in hospital/clinic in Switzerland.

What strikes me is the "I'm just asking" which one of the female Doctors ALWAYS says. One time she doesn't. I was sat up - thinking - WHY NOT? The author then writes the "I'm just asking was implied". I'd love to re-read this.

I've tried Twitter - all of my friends - and many of them have studied literature/creative writing.

If you can help - I would be immensely grateful.

Happy Reading,

Peter

Daphne | 247 comments Googling leads me to a John Irving book, Until I Find You. Google Books has the quote on page 754 in a section called "Dr. Garcia". The person who always says "I'm just asking", except this time, is Dr von Rohr.

Peter Oh my goodness Daphne,

Thank you so much. I'd tried google search - but not via google books.

I have been trying to find this for about 8 years - my friend found this site - and suggested I try it - and an answer straight away.

Thank you so so much. I will now stop annoying my friends (and complete acquaintances) with this question.

With kind regards and very best wishes,

Peter
