Tawnee Calhoun (tawnee89) | 12 comments Hello there. I'm looking for non-series thrillers and suspense novels. I like medical and technological thrillers, but I don't like political or legal thrillers. Basically, I'm looking for books that leave you on the edge of your seat, books that keep you turning the page until the very end. Thanks in advance for your help!

Also, if it's not too much trouble, can you link your suggestions?

David Freas (quillracer) | 2961 comments Have you tried any of Harlan Coben's non-series books?

You can find a list of them at www.stopyourekillingme.com under his name.

They will keep you guessing right up to the end. Just about the time you have things figured out, he'll throw you a curve that will send you in a new direction.

Sharon Michael | 674 comments Thomas Perry has written several standalones and also a couple that are part of a series, but can be read as standalones. The Butcher's Boy Metzger's Dog Dead Aim and Death Benefits are several of my favorites.

If you like mysteries set within the horseracing 'industry' in England, nearly all of the Dick Francis mysteries are stand-alones and many of them have a focus on something other than just racing. You might try The Danger Proof and Hot Money although I've found all of his books interesting.

Tawnee Calhoun (tawnee89) | 12 comments Thanks for the suggestions so far! Keep 'em coming. :)

I've read Gerritsen's stand alones. She's one of my favorite authors. I'm currently reading "The Woods" by Harlan Coben.

I will check out Thomas Perry!

Sam Quentin | 4 comments William Boyd's Restless is a terrific stand alone thriller and his Bond book Solo: A James Bond Novel is a brilliant thriller that stands apart from a lot of the other bond books. To me it's actually much better written than a lot of the Fleming ones. Robert Harris is also a good bet Robert Harris Enigma Fatherland and Archangel are all very good stand alones.

Suzy (goodreadscomsuzy_hillard) | 702 comments I recommend Talking to the Dead by Harry Bingham. It's supposed to be the first in a series, but I've not seen anything more from the author. Takes place in Wales and the young policewoman/protagonist has possibly psychic powers.

I also recommend Sister, the ending of which had my hair standing on end.

Great question - I'm making note of some of the suggestions.

Suzy (goodreadscomsuzy_hillard) | 702 comments just saw there is a second book in the Harry Bingham penned series Love Story, With Murders: A Novel. I still recommend Talking to the Dead as an enjoyable standalone read.

I love Thomas Perry's standalones as well as his Jane Whitefield series.

I just want to say that Thomas Perry has been a tremendous inspiration for me to write and hang in there with it. I picked up a copy of The Butcher's Boy (published in the UK) from the James Thin Bookshop in Edinburgh back in 1996 or something. I continue to read Perry's new stuff and re-read the old stand-bys, like Sleeping Dogs.

Sharon Michael | 674 comments John Sandford (another of my favorite series authors) has also written two standalones I've liked. The first The Night Crew is set in CA and the main characters are a independent news team ... the second is Dead Watch which is set in Washington D.C. and VA, political setting/people but not a strictly political plotline.

How about Harvest by Tess Gerritsen? I thought it was great. Robin Cook also writes medical thrillers. I read some years ago and really liked them, but I honestly can't remember the titles.

I just finished "Just One Look" and you're absolutely right. There were so many exciting twists and turns that it was hard to put down for even a second. I'm hooked!
