David Estes Fans and YA Book Lovers Unite! discussion

On Sunday Jan. 12th, Jen, Karen, Jenny and I are starting a buddy read of Incarnate by Jodi Meadows, one of our authors that will soon be coming for a Q&A!

This buddy read is open to everyone who would like to join in!! There are no set chapters per day, we just read at our own paces and start each post with how far along you are, i.e., Chapter #, %, using spoilers where needed. Have fun!

Me, me, me!

Woot, so happy you are joining us DeAnna! This will be my 4th time reading this one I think! I really need to just buy a copy, I just keep checking it out of the library! lol

So this series is dystopian/fantasy. The first book feels much more like fantasy until the end...the second book you definitely get more of the dystopian. The third book comes out the end of January, CAN'T WAIT!!!

I'm pretty sure I bought it on my kindle, but now I'm second-guessing myself, so I'm going to check.

On the other hand, I wouldn't mind a trip down under. I could always just call Adele from the beach when I got there. And of course I'd bring Jenny and Karen for backup. Be afraid. Be very afraid.

HAHAHAHA! Oh my gosh, I needed to laugh! For once, I haven't cheated yet (emphasis on yet). I'm juggling three books, which is weird for me, so I haven't even thought about cheating.

But I totally respect that Jen already peeked haha! (We're more alike than you might think, Jen!)

I would NEVER touch that pretty face of yours, David!! Noooooooo.... Maybe a reverse thrust kick to those tall skinny chicken leg knees though. I can just about reach to there (I'm SOOOOO short), and that should knock you down so Jen can grab and run. ;-P

I'm shaking so hard I've decided to give up, hand over my Kindle, and go to the library so I can cheat and read ahead there :P

Ok, Mr. Cheat Cheater McCheaty Pants. Go ahead. You probably have a fancy library there. I went to pick it up (thought I had it and apparently don't) and my non-fav library didn't have it. OF COURSE. My fav library wasn't on the way where we were going. So tomorrow I'll just head south to my fav library and get it.

So I didn't peek after all. And I don't know karate and can't really wrestle people to the ground. So while you're at the library we'll be at the beach drinking Mai Tai's or Margaritas or whatever it is that you Ozzies drink. I need me a tan.

Darryl picked up my copy at the library yesterday for me! This would be the 4th time I've checked it out! Really should just buy it, but trying to same some pennies at the moment!

Jenny -if I ever see it at goodwill I'll send it to you. I ended up foregoing the library and just borrowing it online for kindle. My moms library has almost everything I ever want. And since it's all online I just use her card. I even saw one of the library people at the county fair last year, and mentioned that I love their online books selection. The guy behind the table said you should just use your mom's card and check them out! It's nice to know that they don't mind.

I tried to borrow from my elibrary but I was on hold. It ended up only being $1.99 for a nook and a kindle. I didn't get the audio but with a kindle copy, the whispersync is $3.95.

Actually, I used one of my nook Xmas gift cards to get this one too! I am trying to eke out as many books as I can with these deals!!

Sorry, guys, but I started it today. I'm not very far into it yet, but I was between books (finished Fangirl last night) and sitting in a car with nothing to do. lol

Ok DeAnna, you do realise that we know karate and how to wrestle people to the ground and then grab either the book or the Kindle or Nook or whatever and run off with it, right?

Sorry, Jen. It was either start a day early or start a different book and end up starting late. I'm only on page 25 anyway and planning to watch the Patriots game tonight, so I won't get much (if any) farther.

I'm up to 29% at the moment...loving being back in this world!! Got totally sucked in to the story already!

CHEATER!! Karen, prepare your karate moves! LOL just kidding, by the letter of the law you didn't cheat :) I guess technically I could have started at 4pm my time and it would have been midnight on the east coast :) I hope to start the read soon!

Hahahah.. In my first year in karate classes (I did 13 years and came close to being a brown belt - right below a black belt), they called me "groin woman" behind my back. No matter where I aimed my kicks, I ALWAYS landed them in the groin. My instructors would never come near me without a cup! I finally managed to overcome my deficiancy and did pretty well eventually.

I'm pretty sure I'm gonna pay dearly for sharing that story. ;-)

Okay, I've been picking up the book all day and reading a chapter here and a chapter there, and I'm already at 71% through the book!! Going to put it down now until tomorrow! I really didn't mean to get so far ahead! (view spoiler)[ Okay, I really love Sam, but this time around he's kind of annoying me a little bit. But I still love him! He's a talented musician. Nuff said!
One the of things I found most interesting when reading this for the first time is the temple, and the walls that have a heartbeat. And how Ana is the only one who finds it creepy. (hide spoiler)]

Jeesh you guys. I still haven't started yet because NO I AM NOT A CHEATER. This reminds me of a conversation between daughters 3 and 5 about how 5 went on YouTube to figure out how to solve the Rubics Cube. 3 called her every corruption of "cheater" (and of course I stole them all) and I laughed my head off.

OK, I'm still trying to get it on audio but I do have the ebook. Guess I'm gonna have to catch up now. I'm finishing up 3:59 which is AH-mazing! SO good! You all will love it!

HAHA! I'm not sure that's a deficiency, I'd call that a solid strategy!

I'm in the game! 39%! This is a pretty quick read :) I thought it started really incredibly, I was sucked in right away and absolutely love the whole concept, especially (view spoiler)[ how the souls can sometimes come back as girls and sometimes guys lol!! (hide spoiler)]

Things have slowed into a bit of a lull now, but I'm sensing the next big plot point is about to hit! (view spoiler)[ I really don't know about Sam. I like some things about him, but not other things. I think Ana is awesome though. I really want to know why she was a newsoul and where Ciana went! The worldbuilding is awesome so far, at bit by bit, a really good pace. (hide spoiler)]

Yay!! I love Ana, too, and can really emphasize with her a lot!

I'm having a hard time getting into this. I'm not disliking it, just not sucked in yet.

How far are you? I'm at 55%. I really enjoyed the beginning, but when things slowed in Heart I got a little bored, but after (view spoiler)[ the dragon attack (how awesome was that?) I really got back into it. I'm not sure why they're hiding her father's diaries from her, but clearly something's screwed up. I'm thinking maybe they found a way to eliminate Ciana for good because someone didn't like her, but they were surprised when a newsoul arrived to take her place. But that's just a theory I have... About 20%. The narrator sounds like a valley girl. The story is good - so I'll be switching to Kindle here in a bit. I get why Ana would be so defensive and all (view spoiler)[after the way that witch of a mother brought her up (hide spoiler)] - but the narrator is just making her sound like a whiny brat. I need to hear my own imagination's voice for her. It sure wouldn't sound like a teenager from "Clueless!"

Yeah, even with the printed version she sounds a bit like that occasionally, but probably not nearly as much as what you're getting from the narrator. She's relatively likeable in the printed version. But she is wearing on me a little as it goes on...66% now...but then again, so is Sam. Overall, though, I'm very much enjoying it and keen to find out what the hell is going on!
