Rainbowheart | 719 comments Ok, I know this is *way* early, but I created a list for LGBT books releasing in 2015....

https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/4...

Please feel free to vote for stuff and add new books if you hear of ones coming out.

Here's what's there so far....

Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli
Etta Not Otherwise Specified by Hannah Moskowitz
Fans Of The Impossible Life by Kate Scelsa
None Of The Above by I.W. Gregorio
Skyscraping by Cordelia Jensen
Rhiannon by David Levithan
Underneath Everything by Marcy Beller Paul

Be aware I said possible LGBT because a few of them have promising summaries, but not totally sure about their content. If anything is on the list wrongly, let me know!

Kim (lokilady) | 417 comments I can't wait for Etta! Hannah Moskowitz is an amazing storyteller and wordsmith, and she, herself, is really engaged in that eponymous character, which makes me even more excited to read about her.

message 4: by Rainbowheart (last edited Jan 09, 2014 12:17PM) (new)

Rainbowheart | 719 comments Haha, yeah I know I'm totally way in advance.

Kim, Etta sounds like a really interesting character! I like Hannah Moskowitz a lot. She has a couple other books coming out in 2014 and 2015 but I'm not sure if any of those have queer themes or not.

message 5: by Rainbowheart (new)

Rainbowheart | 719 comments One more for 2015....

Untitled by Zoe Marriott

No title yet (obviously) but the character Jack from this trilogy is a lesbian.

message 6: by Rainbowheart (new)

Rainbowheart | 719 comments Also this one...

The Five Stages of Andrew Brawley by Shaun David Hutchinson

It's m/m romance and it sounds awesome.

message 7: by Rainbowheart (new)

Rainbowheart | 719 comments Also for 2015.....

Theater Geek by Seth Rudetsky

message 8: by Rainbowheart (new)

Rainbowheart | 719 comments And another one....

The Girl at Midnight by Melissa Grey

Sounds like a really cool fantasy. The author added it to the list so I'm positive about the LGBT theme, although I'm not sure which characters are queer or what category they fall into.

message 9: by Rainbowheart (last edited Jan 13, 2014 09:18AM) (new)

Rainbowheart | 719 comments This is also for 2015....

Jericho by Tom Tancin

Sounds like the MC is gay.

message 10: by Rainbowheart (new)

Rainbowheart | 719 comments Another for 2015....

More Happy Than Not by Adam Silvera

Reviews seem to indicate that the MC is either gay or bi.

message 11: by Rainbowheart (new)

Rainbowheart | 719 comments Few more....

Emeralds & Ashes by Leila Rasheed
Vivian Apple at the End of the World by Katie Coyle

First one has gay male characters. Second one I'm not sure, but based on web searches there are definitely LGBT themes of some sort.

message 12: by Rainbowheart (new)

Rainbowheart | 719 comments Also for 2015....

Willful Machines by Tim Floreen

Looks like the MC is gay.

message 13: by Rainbowheart (new)

Rainbowheart | 719 comments More for 2015....

Unbreakable by Robin Talley
Bleeding Earth by Kaitlin Ward

Really excited for both of these. They're lesbian-themed, and the first one also has a genderqueer character!

message 14: by Rainbowheart (last edited May 17, 2014 02:25PM) (new)

Rainbowheart | 719 comments And a bunch more....

Unspeakable by Abbie Rushton
Untitled Prequel Eve by Helen Eve
Lair of Dreams by Libba Bray
Petticoats & Pistols by Jessica Spotswood

First one looks to be a lesbian romance, second one I'm not sure, but definitely LGBT themes of some sort, the third one probably has at least one gay male character since it's a sequel to another book that does, and the fourth one is a collection of short stories, and some of the authors seem likely to have written in queer themes.

message 15: by Rainbowheart (new)

Rainbowheart | 719 comments Another new one....

Scrapbook by Hannah Moskowitz

Per the author, it has a ton of queer characters.

message 16: by Rainbowheart (new)

Rainbowheart | 719 comments Here's another....

Untitled by Jaclyn Dolamore

The first book in the series has lesbian characters, and I believe the sequel does as well.

message 17: by Rainbowheart (new)

Rainbowheart | 719 comments One more....

Under the Lights by Dahlia Adler

This has a lesbian romance. There are a *lot* of lesbian books scheduled for next year. I think they are actually outnumbering gay male ones.

message 18: by Rainbowheart (new)

Rainbowheart | 719 comments Another for 2015....

The Darkest Part of the Forest by Holly Black

The MC's brother Ben is gay.

message 19: by Rainbowheart (new)

Rainbowheart | 719 comments And here's another....

Promposal by Rhonda Helms

Looks like a dual narrative, and one of the MCs is gay.

message 20: by Rainbowheart (new)

Rainbowheart | 719 comments Rainbowheart wrote: "The Girl at Midnight by Melissa Grey

Found out The Girl at Midnight has two gay male side characters.

message 21: by Rainbowheart (new)

Rainbowheart | 719 comments One more....

This is Not a Love Story by Keren David

Not totally sure, but from the summary it sounds like at least one of the male characters is gay or bi.

message 22: by Rainbowheart (new)

Rainbowheart | 719 comments Another for 2015....

Me Being Me Is Exactly as Insane as You Being You by Todd Hasak-Lowy

The MC has a gay dad.

message 23: by Rainbowheart (new)

Rainbowheart | 719 comments More for 2015....

Play On by Michelle Smith
The Flywheel by Erin Gough
You and Me and Him by Kris Dinnison

First one has two gay male side characters, second one has a lesbian MC, and the third one looks like a dual narrative with a gay MC.

message 24: by Rainbowheart (last edited Sep 12, 2014 07:28PM) (new)

Rainbowheart | 719 comments Another one....

Half Wild by Sally Green

The character Gabriel from this series is gay, and many people are rooting for him to hook up with the MC, so this series could possibly turn into m/m romance at some point. That's still just speculation though.

message 25: by Rainbowheart (new)

Rainbowheart | 719 comments A few more....

Virtuoso by Charlotte Hymes
The Art of Being Normal by Lisa Williamson

First one I'm not sure what category, but since the author added it to the list, there must be queer themes. Second one has an MC who is MTF transgender.

message 26: by Rainbowheart (last edited Oct 17, 2014 09:18AM) (new)

Rainbowheart | 719 comments Some more....

Vanished by E.E. Cooper
Playing a Part by Daria Wilke
Anything Could Happen by Will Walton

First one has a lesbian MC, and the latter two have gay male MCs.

message 27: by Kim (new)

Kim (lokilady) | 417 comments There'll be About a Girl , by Sarah McCarry, in July.

message 28: by Rainbowheart (new)

Rainbowheart | 719 comments Thanks Kim! That's a new one for me. I added it to the 2015 list, which already has 45 books. I love the cover too, it's one of the few LGBT YA covers with a passionate kiss!

Also for 2015....

The Porcupine of Truth by Bill Konigsberg

I believe this has at least one gay male character.

message 29: by Kim (new)

Kim (lokilady) | 417 comments I just found out about it, Rainbowheart, from Diversity in YA's Diversity Digest for this month, which also had a link to this MTV piece about the book's cover.

message 30: by Rainbowheart (new)

Rainbowheart | 719 comments Kim, awesome! I've bookmarked those links. The Diversity in YA site looks really good.

J.S. Frankel | 105 comments What She Saw, a F/F adult-oriented paranormal novel, might be out in December (courtesy of Regal Crest). August will see the last novel in the Lindsay/Jo trilogy, Lindsay, Jo and the Well of Nevermore, also courtesy of Regal Crest.

message 33: by Rainbowheart (last edited Nov 04, 2014 06:41AM) (new)

Rainbowheart | 719 comments Thanks, Jesse. I really think we should avoid mentioning adult books on this thread though. I'd like to keep it (and the listopia I created) strictly YA and middle grade.

message 34: by J.S. (new)

J.S. Frankel | 105 comments Sorry about that. I'll stick to the YA books. Apologies.

message 35: by Rainbowheart (new)

Rainbowheart | 719 comments That's no problem! I'm excited to see so many new books mentioned. :)

message 36: by Kim (new)

Kim (lokilady) | 417 comments Murder Is Bad Manners , by Robin Stevens, has a scheduled release date next April.

One reviewer discusses the book's "frequent references to lesbianism . . . between teachers, between older girls, and in the pashes that girls have on one another."

message 37: by Rainbowheart (new)

Rainbowheart | 719 comments Oh, awesome! That's middle grade too. Looks like it's coming out in the USA next year, but it's actually a 2014 release, under the title Murder Most Unladylike in the UK.

message 38: by Kim (new)

Kim (lokilady) | 417 comments Oops, I didn't notice the alternate title/release.

message 39: by Kim (new)

Kim (lokilady) | 417 comments David Levithan is going to release Hold Me Closer: The Tiny Cooper Story , yay!

message 40: by Kim (new)

Kim (lokilady) | 417 comments T. Cooper will release Oryon (Changers #2).

message 41: by Kim (last edited Dec 05, 2014 06:40PM) (new)

Kim (lokilady) | 417 comments Still Life Las Vegas , by James Sie, sounds like it will have at least one QUILTBAG character. Here's the synopsis from the publisher (which listed it among anticipated "books for teens"):
An astonishing literary debut about a young man who, in the search for clues into the disappearance of his mother twelve years earlier, discovers himself in the process.

Recent high school graduate and aspiring artist Walter Stahl lives with his ailing father in the dregs of Las Vegas, their lives overshadowed by the disappearance of Walter's mother, who drove off when he was five and never returned. Although Walter has never so much as seen a photograph of his mother, it doesn't stop him from keeping an eye out for her in the groups of tourists he caters to in his dead-end job along the Strip.

Then Walter meets Chrysto and Acacia, a brother and sister working as living statues at the Venetian Hotel, and his world cracks open. Spending less time caring for his father, and more time riding on the backs of Vespas and drawing, Walter finds life has more to offer than he could have imagined. But as his feelings for Chrysto deepen, and as clues behind his mother's disappearance start to reveal themselves, Walter is forced to face the truth about himself and his family history.

Threading through this coming-of-age story are beautiful and heart-wrenching graphic illustrations, depicting how Walter's mother Emily, a Vietnamese-born accordion player, abandoned her family to chase a vision of Liberace across the country; and how Walter's father went searching for her amongst the gondolas of the Venetian Hotel.

In Still Life Las Vegas, the magical collides with the mundane; memory, sexual awakening and familial ties all lead to a place where everything is illuminated, and nothing is real.

message 42: by Rainbowheart (new)

Rainbowheart | 719 comments That one sounds interesting, although it looks like adult literary fiction. The Macmillan list says that it also includes "YA-OK titles" and some of the other books mentioned are definitely adult, not YA.

message 44: by Kim (last edited Dec 09, 2014 09:28AM) (new)

Kim (lokilady) | 417 comments How odd: Rusty Summer has the same character names and sounds very similar but not exactly the same as that author's Beau, Lee, The Bomb, & Me from this past October. In the former, the unnamed-in-summaries first-person narrator needs the group to roadtrip to see that person's dad in Alaska, whereas, in the latter, the narrator says they're roadtripping to see Beau's uncle Frankie in San Francisco. The former is also significantly longer. I'm guessing the former is a revision, maybe, but the publisher's Facebook page still advertised the latter with its original title and cover just a few days ago!

message 45: by Rainbowheart (new)

Rainbowheart | 719 comments That is odd! I thought it was a sequel, but I see now that they both involve road trips and the summaries are very similar.

message 46: by Rainbowheart (last edited Dec 19, 2014 06:04PM) (new)

Rainbowheart | 719 comments More for 2015....

Carry On by Rainbow Rowell
Honey Girl by Lisa Freeman
Girl at the Bottom of the Sea by Michelle Tea

First one is m/m fantasy, and the second two have lesbian/bi MCs.

And two middle grade novels, if any members of the group are looking for LGBT books for kids in junior high....

The Truth About Twinkie Pie by Kat Yeh
We Are All Made of Molecules by Susin Nielsen

First book has a character coming out, second book has an MC with a gay dad.

Kim (lokilady) | 417 comments When Everything Feels Like the Movies , by Raziel Reid

A couple reviewers suggest that the characters in this book act (and speak) much older than their ages, so younger readers may want to bear that in mind.

message 49: by Kim (new)

Kim (lokilady) | 417 comments Flesh and Bone , by William Alton
