Question...When we hit a green tile do we have to read one book for each of the tiles following that. For example. go to college ( read a book where the main character is in college), then read another book for meet your roommate, and another for go on exchange, etc etc, ? So if we went to college we would read a total of 5 books, and if we got a job we would read 4 books? or am i getting totally confused here? lol help !

Kathy | 7669 comments Desiree wrote: "Question...When we hit a green tile do we have to read one book for each of the tiles following that. For example. go to college ( read a book where the main character is in college), then read ano..."

When you hit a green tile you roll again set the highest number to 10. Then that number will tell you which way to go. Even go to college, odd get a job.

If you look at my progress (Message #8), my 2nd roll I rolled a 5 and leaving space #4 - Summer Holiday, when I reached the green tile I then rolled a 10 (even) so I went to college. The green title was actually the 4th space counting from my last spot, so my original roll was 5 so I only go one more space off the green tile so I ended up meeting my roommate.

I hope that helps and I hope I explained that right! lol! :D

Suzy Kennedy | 345 comments Game of life COMPLETE

Im In. Im going to take 10-12 months though, Cause of work, wait times on library books and reading pace I need more than the 3 months. I took all my rolls at once so I could plan out what books I had and which ones I had to find, put on hold and wait for. I'll add a cover and review when I finish each book.

First roll 2: Join an after school activity.
My activity is 3- Student newspaper.

book: Good in bed Good in Bed (Cannie Shapiro, #1) by Jennifer Weiner . A reporters ex boy friend gets hired by a magazine to write about their sex life. I found it on a list in good reads so I figured check it out

Rating 3/5. Lots of extras not needed, and main character rambles a lot, but it does read like you are following the life of this person, with her chaotic thoughts. I liked the perspective of being overweight, childhood experiences that stick with you and just getting through every day life.

Second roll 3: School trip
Location 2: New York. Read a book that takes place in New York.

Book: Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer I loved the movie, its about a boy who loses his father in 9/11 and how he copes.

Rating 4/5. Well written and moves at a good pace. The book isn't a crazy plotline or amazing save the world. It is just about a boy coping with loosing his dad and the adventures he takes to try to keep the memory of his dad alive. I found it heart warming and very creative.

Third roll 3: GREEN TILE.
Rolled 9- Go to college. Read a book whose character is in college

Book: FanGirl, Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell recommended by a friend about a girl and her first experiences out on her own going to college.

Rating 4/5. I found this a very amusing book that kept you guessing. The relationships are dysfunctional, funny and realistic. There are characters to love, character to hate and my only critique is that I would prefer to have read more of Cather's original short story.

Forth Roll 2: Go on a exchange, read a book where the main character travels to study.

Book: Anna and the French Kiss, Anna and the French Kiss (Anna and the French Kiss, #1) by Stephanie Perkins recommended by a friend about a girl who spends her senior year at a boarding school in Paris.

Rating: 4/5. Such a cute book. Very typical love story, mushy bits, cute and sweet. A great comedic romance with some interesting looks at different cultures, assimilating to a new culture and the trials of being a teenager.

Fifth Roll 2: Graduation day!
Rolled 4- Become a doctor, read a book where main character works in a medial field.

Book: Promise of Stardust. The Promise of Stardust by Priscille Sibley when a family member is seriously injured the family must consider whether to keep her alive or let her die with dignity- the husband is a doctor.

Rating: 4/5. Grab a box of tissues!! When a mans wife falls and has terminal complications he is ready to pull the plug, but then finds out she is pregnant and must fight to keep her body alive so their baby has a chance to live. This book was moving, well written and give a serious issue life. It made me think about the fact that I do not have a living will and what my stance is on several current issues facing society. I love a book that makes me think and this was a great read.

Sixth roll 5: get married, read a book where the main characters are getting married.

Book: Grave Mercy. Grave Mercy (His Fair Assassin, #1) by Robin LaFevers A girl get married to a horrible man by her father and then is spirited away by priests of the old world to a Coven where she trains to be an assassin.

Rating 4/5. There was a lot to enjoy about this book. Action, romance, the strong silent man, traitors and an interesting take on death. I did feel like the book was long than it needed to be but I did really enjoy it.

Seventh roll 5: Green Tile
Rolled 5- loose job. Roll for a new job from previous list.
Rolled 5- Scientist.

Book: Cloud Roads. The Cloud Roads (Books of the Raksura, #1) by Martha Wells Moon has spent his entire life not know what he is beyond being a shape shifter. An orphan never meeting anyone of his kind he blends into other groundling communities until he is discovered and kicked out. Until he is found by another of his race.

Rating 4/5. Overall a good book. Lots of great character and setting building. As a fantasy series the author really paints a new fantastical world were there are many different species of 'groundlings' with different skins, body shapes and forms. some have wings and tails, others are humanoid, all have their own societies. I cant wait to get into book 2 of the series.

Eighth Roll 1: get mugged, read a crime novel.

Book: Throne of Glass. Throne of Glass (Throne of Glass, #1) by Sarah J. Maas A master thief is caught at age 18 and sent to work in the mines. she finds her reprieve when the prince offers her a deal. Be the Kings hired assassin to gain her freedom. The catch- she has to compete for the honor.

Rating 4/5. I LOVED this book. It has great character development, an intriguing love triangle and lots of action and mystery. I cant wait to get into the next book of this series.

Ninth Roll 3: Buy a house, because I lost my job its to be in a state of disrepair

Book: Breathe. Breathe (Breathe, #1) by Sarah Crossan The world is dead. Survivors only live in the protection of Breathe- a corporation that has been able to manufacture clean air.

My rating 3/5. this was an enjoyable book with an interesting take on the post apocalyptic world. living in a giant bubble at super high oxygen levels so they cant venture outside. the character development was a bit weak, but I will be reading the next book for sure.

tenth Roll 3: Spring cleaning, read a book on TBR list

Book: Confessions of a shopaholic. Confessions of a Shopaholic (Shopaholic, #1) by Sophie Kinsella Uncontrollable shopping ruins lives, here's one girls struggle with the compulsion to shop.

Rating 4/5. I found this book very well written and realistic on the struggles of fighting any compulsion. How many people justify feeding their compulsions and avoid the negative outcomes. Definitely a book I'll read again.

Eleventh Roll 1: Have a boy. Read a book where the main character is named Jackson, Aiden, Liam, Lucas, Noah, Mason, Jayden, Ethan, Jacob or Jack.

Book: Vampire Kisses. Vampire Kisses (Vampire Kisses, #1) by Ellen Schreiber A girl who never fits in meets a mysterious boy after he moves into the haunted house she is obsessed with. is he a vampire?

Rating 2/5. A teen fluff book that wasted a potentially great, strong female character and turned her into a simpering mess. I was not impressed.

Twelfth Roll 1: gardening, read a book with plant on the cover.

Book: Tiger Lily. Tiger Lily by Jodi Lynn Anderson (the dress on the cover looks like a flower, I thought it was till someone pointed out its a dress) Fifteen-year-old Tiger Lily doesn't believe in love stories or happy endings. Then she meets the alluring teenage Peter Pan in the forbidden woods of Neverland and immediately falls under his spell.

Rating 4/5. this was a really interesting take on the peter pan story told from Tinks point of view but focusing on the life of Tiger Lily. I really enjoyed it and will probably read it again.

Thirteenth Roll 2: Green Tile
Rolled 5- get divorced, read a book where the main character I from a broken family.

Book: Eleanor and Park Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell Two misfits fall in love over a school year and have to deal with the trials and tribulations of first love in highschool.

My rating 4/5. at first I was skeptical of this story. the teenage love gushy story but thelast few chapters totally changed this book for me. what Park is willing to do to get Eleanor away from her abusive step dad and them dealing with their emotion after they are separated really gave this book another dimension.

Fourteenth Roll 1: Health issues. read a book where the main character is having health issues.

Book: Gathering Blue. Gathering Blue (The Giver, #2) by Lois Lowry Kira, an orphan with a twisted leg, lives in a world where the weak are cast aside. She fears for her future until she is spared by the all-powerful Council of Guardians. Kira is a gifted weaver and is given a task that no other community member can do

My rating 3/5. this book was very enjoyable and hit home with the message that every good thing comes at a price. People take what the want and if you have a talent exceptions can be made for you. the courage of Kira was a great message and I was happy that I gave this book a chance because I didn't like the first book in the series very much.

Fifteenth roll 1: Join Gay Straight alliance. read a LGTB book

Book: Almost Perfect. Almost Perfect by Brian Katcher One day, Logan acts on his growing feelings for Sage. Moments later, he wishes he never had. Sage finally discloses her big secret: she’s actually a boy.

Rating: 5/5 Another great book about serious issues, and this author did his homework into the transgendered community. The main male character is very open and understanding for the small southern town this book is set in which I found refreshing and hopeful. Hopeful the society is changing and people are becoming more accepting, he didnt accept Sage with open arms and struggled with her identity and how her identity effected him.

Sixteenth Roll 3: get a new hobby
rolled 1: read a new author

Book:DUFF- The DUFF Designated Ugly Fat Friend by Kody Keplinger Life as a rebellious teenager whos labelled as the Designated Ugly Fat Friend

Rating 3/5. An easy read and great teenage book but I felt that there could have been much more. it was a bit cheesy and predictable but very enjoyable

Seventeenth Roll 1: Go on a cruise. Read a book with water on the cover.

Book: Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbitt Tuck everlasting. Doomed to - or blessed with - eternal life after drinking from a magic spring, the Tuck family wanders about trying to live as inconspicuously and comfortably as they can. When ten-year-old Winnie Foster stumbles on their secret, the Tucks take her home and explain why living forever at one age is less a blessing that it might seem. \

My rating 3/5. I enjoyed the movie as a kid and the book is even better. Everyone fears death but this book really looks at the idea of never dying. Having to evolve with time, loose the chance at having a family and being in society, never being able to achieve great things because you'll never age, never die. its an interesting story

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 31156 comments Anyone who can help me? I am still a bit confused. I rolled 1, then 5, and then a 3. If I had to cross over the green tiles, what do I do when I "stop"? Or do I only top if I actually LAND on a green tile?

message 27: by Amanda (new)

Amanda | 4527 comments I think you have to stop on the green tile even if your roll is a number that takes you beyond the green tile.

I am having the same problem finding a book with the main character getting married.

Megan | 2871 comments Vicki, when you come to the green tiles you have to stop at them. Then you use the Violet Cottage number thingy and generate a number between 1 and 10. At the first green tile if you get a even # than you go to college, if you get an odd # than you get a job.

Then once you find out which path you are taking you role again. For example, If you go to college and you role a 1 on your second role then you read a book who's main character is going to college and is going to have a roommate.

I hope that was helpful. :)

I just edited guidelines (post #1) and added example.

If it's still too complicated for you and you really want to try this challenge, contact me and I'll arrange it for you, like you generate the random numbers and I'll tell you which tiles & tasks you land on.

Thanks.

Mandiann (goodreadscommandiann) | 6882 comments I am having a hard time with:

1. Police officer: read a book whose main character is a law enforcer

The closest I could find that was YA was The Name of the Star, but it's not the MC but three of the supporting characters who are in law enforcement.

Any suggestions?

How about Nineteen Minutes by Jodi Picoult? One of the main characters is a judge and the another is a sheriff or something. It's kind of a big book though, heavy reading. Kinda deep.
