Dara (cmdrdara) | 2702 comments Anybody else watch this? Thought it was a promising pilot but the main character, Alan Farragut, was pretty bland. I found Hatake the most interesting and I hope there's more of him.

Sean Lookielook Sandulak (seansandulak) | 444 comments I thought it was done well, but it wasn't anything exceptional. Perhaps a little too derivative. Most of the characters were forgettable. I never judge a show by the pilot, however. We'll have to see where they take the story.

It was alright.

Apparently you can watch the third episode on demand too. Ever since I started reading more, I'm less tolerable to watching stuff I don't like. I'll give it 1-2 more episodes to grab me.

Dara (cmdrdara) | 2702 comments The black goo reminded me of the protomolecule from the Expanse series.

Michele | 1154 comments I really like the idea and the acting and look of the show is great. I like the transmission of the black goo mouth to mouth - makes them more like vampiresBUT...I was having a lot of WTF moments, especially about how bad they are handling this outbreak - supposed scientists whining and bitching about being in quarantine, escaping way too easily, the main guy thinking he can talk his psycho brother down (he's way too goody two shoes)...I don't know, if the characters stop doing idiotic things to advance the plot, then maybe it will be good.

Alexander (technogoth) | 171 comments The first thing that came to mind for me when I saw black goo and the artic was the X-Files.

So far I like it, hopefully they will find better ways to advance the story in later episodes rather then incompetence. Also I want to know how they going to explain away the end of episode 3.

Vomit zombies! Only faster.

message 8: by Trike (new)

Trike | 11199 comments It was okay. Not nearly enough content for the amount of time it ran. As others said, it looks a bit flimsy at the moment and the whole "my brother slept with my wife" junk was unnecessary. I might check it out again in six months to see where it is.

message 9: by Jacob (new)

Jacob Lawrence | 60 comments I like it so far. Maybe I just love the genre, and am blinded to many of the faults in the series, but it seems somewhat refreshing compared to other things being produced as of late. I can't wait until the next episode.

Regarding the scientists being upset about being in quarantine, I chalk that up to fear. This is a disease/virus/mutation that no one really understands, and because of that it is easy to fear. People have died, they haven't been given any information from the CDC, and yet they know things they shouldn't, compounding how they'll react.

Dara (cmdrdara) | 2702 comments I'm definitely more hooked after tonight's episode despite its flaws. I still can't seem to like Alan Farragut but I totally love Jules. And still like Hatake.

Tamahome | 7222 comments I keep think this is about the Eric Brown novel Helix.

message 12: by Jacob (new)

Jacob Lawrence | 60 comments I would watch a show based on Brown's novel, sounds cool.

The series continues to grow on me. I wish they had not included the whole element of infidelity, but I find it admirable that Alan went to the base to save his brother even after that happened.

Dara (cmdrdara) | 2702 comments That books looks pretty good, Tamahome.

Thane | 476 comments It's keeping my attention right now. Could go either way. This sort of thing always strikes me as great on a smaller scale, a maxi-series sort of thing like 24 was. I can't see watching 6 seasons and a movie of it.

Anyway, I want to know what's up with Hatake! I couldn't decide if I liked Doreen or just found her annoying. Decided I liked her. Besides, it's nice to have a woman on a show that isn't your typical hot babe.

I agree, but I haven't read it.

Phil | 1454 comments I've given up after 3 episodes. I find the situation and the science ridiculous and most of the characters are unlikable and are acting illogically. I've also gotten a little tired of shows where the continued plot relies on almost all the characters keeping secrets from each other even when they're on the same side.

message 17: by Trike (new)

Trike | 11199 comments I have the Eric Brown book in my to-read pile.

I read the latest write-up of the show over on io9 and was just marveling at the sheer dumbness of the story they were relating. After reading that, I'm quite glad I stopped watching this show.

Still waiting for Orphan Black to come back.

message 18: by Dara (new)

Dara (cmdrdara) | 2702 comments The show is getting worse. I can't fathom why the characters do half of the things they do. I'm ready to give it up.
