Brigitte Ayerves Valderas Hello, My Love! is a romantic story that initially toys with unrequited love. Greg, a notorious playboy falls deeply in love with Elise, a law student. Elise is dismissive of Greg because of his reputation. She’s not lured by looks; instead, she’s drawn to a man who can engage her mind. Once Greg figured out how to do this, Elise, astonished by his level of intellect, became more interested and their friendship develops.
Initially, the dialogue between Elise and Greg portrays an interesting dance and teases with a slight flirtation. This is more so apparent from Greg. Elise attempts to hide her feelings from Greg as she’s very much aware that Greg is engaged. Greg is less cautious and can’t retain his admiration.
The author’s use of words is elegant and engaging, and just when you want or think you can take a break from reading she introduces you to another twist in the plot. The plot is interesting. It presents many hurdles that prevent these two from having a peaceful relationship.
I would love to have seen some areas in the plot and characters acknowledged more, such as Greg’s engagement and the wedding planning. Most importantly, the dialogue between Greg and his fiancée, Lori, that allowed him to spend his Friday and Saturday evenings enjoying a home-cooked meal at the home of Elise’s parents. I was left wondering: Where's Lori? Introducing Lori earlier would’ve provided a better sense of her character and heighten the fierceness of her rage. At some points, I was surprised by how the characters responded to some situations. For instance, things the characters didn't consider prior to some of their activities. Elise, with her strong independence and intellect, surprised me the most.
However, I really enjoyed one of the themes in this story: You may have your life planned one way; but one action taken or one person introduced into your life can lead you in a completely different direction. Your reactions to the event can surprise even yourself and help you discover personal traits you didn’t even know you had.
