I have hardly achieved any of last months. I may reevaluate what books I chose and see if the ones I've read instead can fit into the categories :)

message 4: by Sharon (new)

Sharon I'm looking for suggestions for Book 3

message 5: by Marjory (new)

Marjory (marmbrust) | 208 comments Wow. Excellent challenge. Thanks Megan!!

message 6: by Inkeri (new)

Inkeri Wonderful challenge! I totally missed the one for January for having so many other books to read, and of course my life to live. But fir February, I'm in! At least I'll try...

Would the little heart on the bottom left corner of this book count as a loveheart? - RSVP by Helen Warner

@Sharon - I think I might read A Christmas Carol for Book 3, even though it's not Christmas anymore. It's short! Although I think Little Women might work as well. I think Jo mentions something about reading Dompey and Sons by Dickens, or something like that. Would that count?

message 7: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Thanks for your help Inkeri. A Christmas Carol is perfect :)

Marjory (marmbrust) | 208 comments Sharon, that is funny! Except for book #2, those are exactly the ones I picked last night. I just hadn't picked the purple cover because I hadn't found one. Not sure if I will finish this challenge either, but I will give it a try.

I read Moriarty's book, What Alice Forgot last year and I love it. If this one is as good as that one, I'm sure I'll love it! :)

I read this book ages ago and I liked it a lot. I usually don't read non-fiction and was positively surprised by it. Good choice!

I just went through books with love in the title that didn't make me want to puke :)

Haha I thought about that when I made this, But I knew there would be something out there that wasn't necessarily a romance.

message 22: by Josh (new)

Josh I actually decided between a few choices that did not involve any rippling abs on the cover.

(And yes, I'm just jealous)

message 23: by Megan (new)

Megan Dixon | 268 comments Mod
hahaha, well I think you made a good choice with your books. I actually might add those to my to be read list

message 24: by Marjory (new)

Marjory (marmbrust) | 208 comments Hi you guys, I changed my mind, I won't be doing the February challenge with you. Because Aidan in leaving on the 7th, I am going to read some of the historical fiction books placed in Australia that were recommended to me. It's going to be twice as hard for him to leave now that my nephew died. I hope to catch up with for the march challenge. Good luck!

message 25: by Megan (new)

Megan Dixon | 268 comments Mod
That's fine Marjory, no pressure. Id love to know what books you're reading on aus. Sorry to hear about your nephew, hope you're ok.

message 26: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (hrhrach) | 75 comments I found the thread( in looking for a feb vote in the pm earlier ) that shows what ppl are reading off my shelves. Of the ones I've read (I think all but Josh's which is from my want to read) all good choices. As you can see by my 5 stars and reviews I thought it was very well done. What Alice forgot- which I may have been extra hard on having read it only 2 books after THS I believe, was good but totally different IMO. Its a TAD repetitive tho not nearly so as many reviews state bc progress was still made and she was showing what Alice was going through, add to that that there were chuckles on nearly every page, so it was entertaining...it was an almost eclectic mix of chick lit and just a reg good novel. It was deeper than a romance per se or romanceS as it was more deep, a lesson in life and aging both as ppl and in relationships. I took longer to read it as I had a very busy wk but I don't feel even once home trying to play catch up that the extra days it took was a reflection of the book; tho I imagine a much more enthralling book may have got me moving faster. But they can't all be our faves; I liked it perfectly well though. The reason THS got such high grades from me was aside from anything else like the plot in general was how WELL LM put all those stories/threads together and made them one! It's done to a lesser extent In WAF too actually, she's quite adept at that, but it was not AS challenging in WAF bc its more obvious they go together being family and friends obvi having to do with one another from page 1. But in the HS it's just different and you'd have to read to see just what I mean. It was also my first read of '14 started on New Years Day So I was according to some super generous with stars (5 is rare for me) but it hit me then as 5. I don't regret it so I think I stand by that. WAF I really waffled between 3/4 stars. I think it could easily be 4 for me but I guess I am back to 3 is really good, i do recommend, 4 is super good highly recommend, and 5 is amazingly good id be so sad if I missed out on it and you really must read it!! Some are worth rereads if i ever did that if only for seeing how it all fits together in hindsight.
Ok well that may gave been more than anyone wanted of my opinion here on these 2 books but since they were chosen or mentioned most it came out. Lol I'm prob just keeping my mind off the ice cold car blocking mine that I'll be taking my lazy daughter to the bus in (13, only one that gets driven at her stop) bc my oldest has 4 wheel drive and they did nada to our back streets after the storm this wk. Plus I'm not dying to get in n out n move cars so hopefully ill find a pair of gloves of mine bc yesterday the steering wheel was ice after an hour of warming up. Tg still under warranty and has an appt mon.
Off to find that vote! Lol

Rachel (hrhrach) | 75 comments Marjory that's understandable and my thoughts n prayers are with you and your son n family during this time.
I'm in for this challenge. I have to browse the threads more. Missed Jan altogether but I was already booked this month. Tho possibly some books could've worked for it..I'll have a gander later. I'm going to give up a bit of reading time to go on iPad on full site so I can so more on here. This is such a laid back droog unlike another I had joined not that long ago. The one lady is so snarky I dropped the challenge...it should've been the easiest just list my pages read for my others to help them get to x # of pages. I didn't copy the template yet tho she kept saying we had til the end of Jan. No thx who needs to be scared to open their inbox for fear of lecture. But I have some lovely groups like you guys overall tg. Ill list my books I end up with for this one bc I have to try n use some I'm already doing for another challenge or two like whichever type books they say to read but find one with purple cover or heart for instance. I'm sure its doable. Bc I'm fairly booked for Feb too.

these challenges are supposed to be fun. Hey, if you don't finish them no harm done. If you do, that's great. I use these as a way to choose what to read next, not as a way to punish people. It's not homework after all. I mainly created this group because I wanted to get to know people better, make some new friends and share books. Not to stress people out. Im the mod and I still haven't finished January's challenge.

Happy reading xx (not stressful reading)

message 29: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (hrhrach) | 75 comments Aww love that!!!! More nods should read it. Most are nice actually i just mean the super strict ones. But then some ppl may prefer that and there are certainly enough groups to choose from. It's just when you (not YOU) tell me its an easy laid back challenge and are then snappy with ppl that try n help and count pages read for fun bc you think that's your job (of course for the official count but these were just enthusiastic members! Which is good IMO) and have counted my 22 comments (if like 250-300 by now, not like only I post) and gave the nerve to tell me knowing nothing about me my life or what's going on in it, nor that I'm on my cell all that time just replying as I get notifications tho granted I can be chatty but then ask me to chat in another thread as another group did after I said hope I'm hot over posting...no hurt feelings...and my chatter fit right in there...I can't edit to copy her exact template from the phone app. But really she counted thru all that to tell me how many posts I made when I could've done that in that time and then ask me do I know the Nike slogan?
The final straw was she pm me that my (totally tongue in cheek reply to her rude query ) about my swollen feet and how long it's been since I got into my uggs or sneakers n so no I wasn't sure I recalled that slogan...then I did say of course I do, gotcha) DID NOT BELONG in that thread. Lol I guess she couldn't say stop posting about your good intentions n lmk when you've done it as long as it's by x date...bc others posted similar stuff n I honestly think despite her friending me and turning out we live an hour apart which is neat that in the end I just rubbed her the wrong way. It happens.

Marjory (marmbrust) | 208 comments No stress on it from this end. Just wanted to let you guys know I wasn't in on it,

And Megan....thanks for setting up the group. You guys are wonderful people and inspired me to read again. What else could one ask for? Well, except for one big party where we all get to hang out and meet.....

Rachel (hrhrach) | 75 comments I'm not being cute but just have to finally ask...a love heart?? As opposed to an actual human or animal heart? The pretty version were all crushed in school to learn Is Not what's beating in our chest looks wise? Is that what it's called on the other side of the pond?
My friend Anne from and IN the UK AND I have such fun comparing sayings. It usually starts when she says something n I've no idea except thru educated guess (and not even always able!) wtf she means. Lol

Yeh a love heart <3

message 36: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (hrhrach) | 75 comments Ok lol we just say heart here and unless were at the drs or seriously discussing cardiac stuff then we know what we mean. Lol

message 37: by Emily (new)

Emily | 9 comments only hearts that represent love are shaped like that, thus in Australia it is called a love heart. :)

message 38: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Has anyone started this challenge yet? I haven't, but I hope to soon :)

Hi Sharon, I won't be doing this challenge, I am reading books set in Australia to get a feel for your country. I didn't realize I know nothing of the history over there.

message 40: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (hrhrach) | 75 comments I didn't even know it was hot there year round. Or is that just Singapore? Is it cold in Australia when it's hot here?
See Marjory you are Not alone.

message 42: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (hrhrach) | 75 comments Lol I know it's not history but any bit of that that was talked about on here (incl current events like being part of UK ) was new to me too!!!

message 43: by Megan (new)

Megan Dixon | 268 comments Mod
it is cool to talk to everyone on here and learn a little bit.

I wouldn't say it's always hoy. but it really depends on where you are in the country. we do get snow in certain places etc. but where I am our lowest is about -3°c and our hottest is 45°c. not too sure what that is in Fahrenheit. but yes our seasons are the opposite of the northern hemisphere.

message 44: by Emily (new)

Emily | 9 comments Hi Guys, how is everyone going with this challenge? I have had some difficulty getting into my first book and have swapped my selection around slightly so that I can actually get into it. This is definitely going to push me to step outside of my usual genres and to get into others that I am less familiar with :) Happy reading to all!

message 45: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (hrhrach) | 75 comments I actually forgot this challenge!! But thankfully I already have done #4 lol I'll pick some books later!!! I'm hoping at least one of the books I have to read for one of my other 2 challenges (I believe only one my quarterly picked for me 3 books due by march have specific books; the other challenge not sure what this week is as it runs some months and each wk is a diff challenge but as long as it fits like male or female author or whatever is this wk I can pick one that is purple or has a heart. I need to make a better organized list of these darn challenges; I hope it'll make me find more time to read. I have time in theory but it doesn't always work out that way. This n not wanting to let ppl down (in one we're in groups so it let's the team down tho u can make it up if u miss one by doubling up another wk) should help me make reading x amount a priority.
No stress just trying to consolidate my reads a bit more so I don't mess any up if possible. Tg there's plenty of Feb. Left so I will get it done!!

message 46: by Megan (new)

Megan Dixon | 268 comments Mod
well I haven't managed to do any of these this month. so slack. will try harder for next month

message 47: by Sharon (new)

Sharon You're not the only one Megan. February seems to have flown by so I also hope to read something in next months :)

message 48: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (hrhrach) | 75 comments Some of my books for this month fit into this perfectly.
If most or all of us aren't done should we carry it over to a second month or just do a new challenge? Just thinking aloud. I'm with whatever the majority want is fine by me.
