March is Oscar month this year and I'm looking for nominations for books that have been made into films. We will then read and watch both book and film during March and discuss the two (and most likely say the book is better ;) )

- When nominating please include both book AND film title.

- Please make sure to include book link or book cover link. This can be done by clicking on the 'add book / author' link above the comment box. If not possible (because you're using the mobile app), then make sure you inlcude both book title and author.
Your nomination will not count if not in either of these formats.

- Please refrain from nominating any book that has already been a group read or scheduled to read as part of the Goodreads Choice Award Book Club. These can be found at https://www.goodreads.com/group/books...

- Please do not nominate a second (or later) book in a series read. Your nomination will be not counted if you do.

- Only one nomination per person will be accepted.

- Nominations will close on Sunday 26th, 5pm GMT and will be followed by a poll.

I think I will go with City of Bones. The movie goes by the same name: The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones.

City of Bones (The Mortal Instruments, #1) by Cassandra Clare

Trailer: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1538403/?...

I just noticed on the ebook deals thread that someone mentioned that this book is $2.99 on Amazon right now. Not sure if that's just US or UK, etc.

Anima Miejska | 1698 comments I would like to nominate Beautiful Creatures Beautiful Creatures (Caster Chronicles, #1) by Kami Garcia . The film goes by the same title. I have had this book for over a year now on my Kindle, it seems like a good opportunity to finally get to it :)

message 4: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) I would like to nominate Twelve Years a Slave which is nominated for an Oscar.

message 5: by Cherene (new)

Cherene | 4 comments As, only one. Okay, then I nominate Water for Elephants and the movie with the same title.

ally ¯\(ツ)/¯ (allykennedy) | 1002 comments Because its one of my all time favorite movies and because I've never read the book, Jurassic Park (film same name)

message 7: by Maxine (last edited Jan 19, 2014 09:54AM) (new)

Maxine (Booklover Catlady) (booklovercatlady) The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky I would like to nominate The Perks of Being a Wallflower

Sandy from Alaska Colón (sandycfromak) | 56 comments I would like to nominate The Life of Pi by Jason Shaverin. My husband wants to watch The movie, but I won't let him till I read the book!

We're opposite Sandy! I won't read the book until I've seen the movie! I get too angry at things they've left out to actually enjoy the movie!

message 10: by Alycia (new)

Alycia (bookhound18) I am going to nominate: The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank (movie title is The Diary of Anne Frank).

Kirsten (kmcripn) Alycia wrote: "I am going to nominate: The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank (movie title is The Diary of Anne Frank)."

Which movie? There have been a few...

message 12: by Emily (new)

Emily Klein I'm nominating Lone Survivor by Marcus Luttrell and Patrick Robinson. It's in theaters now known as the Lone Survivor. Honorable and fabulous story.

This, to me, is one movie that didn't miss a beat. It did a very good job of following the story line very well. But I must say for me this book has one of the best endings - for me it really made the book, and I will say if you already know the end because you see the movie first - I believe it may take away from making the book so good -IMO

message 14: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 1467 comments Just FYI.
Too bad we weren't doing this in December because the movies this year we could have added to this list are:
Wild From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail by Cheryl Strayed Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn and Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn The Giver (The Giver Quartet, #1) by Lois Lowry The Maze Runner (Maze Runner, #1) by James Dashner This is Where I Leave You by Jonathan Tropper Unbroken A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption by Laura Hillenbrand Serena by Ron Rash The Hundred-Foot Journey by Richard C. Morais The Fault in Our Stars by John Green

Movies to be released by March include Vampire Academy (Vampire Academy, #1) by Richelle Mead A Long Way Down by Nick Hornby Winter's Tale by Mark Helprin Labor Day by Joyce Maynard The Monuments Men Allied Heroes, Nazi Thieves, and the Greatest Treasure Hunt in History by Robert M. Edsel

...And on my birthday, March 21st is the release of Divergent (Divergent, #1) by Veronica Roth

Who says we won't be doing it again Sarah? :)

Jenn S. (Book Buzz) (jennsbookbuzz) | 64 comments I nominate Dead Poets Society

Aw man, I love that film! And I've never read the book.

Ha, ha! That is true! But, it so much fun for me to rip up the movie! (I'm not much of a movie/TV watcher and my husband loves, loves watching movies and TV)

message 19: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) I just get too irritated, Sandy. I remember getting really angry at the miniseries of Noble House (Asian Saga, #4) by James Clavell after they left an ENTIRE character out!

Jenn S. (Book Buzz) (jennsbookbuzz) | 64 comments Lynn wrote: "Aw man, I love that film! And I've never read the book."

Me too! I have only seen the movie also!

message 21: by Diane (new)

Diane | 69 comments I would like to nominate 'The Help'. Both the book and the movie have the same name.

message 22: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 1467 comments Well my nomination will be for Winter's Tale by Mark Helprin - but I would also love Twelve Years a Slave by Solomon Northup and Lone Survivor The Eyewitness Account of Operation Redwing and the Lost Heroes of SEAL Team 10 by Marcus Luttrell

message 23: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 1467 comments Since it is Oscar month - I am thinking the Twelve Years a Slave may actually be a nomination for an Oscar?

message 24: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) I'd not heard of Winter's Tale before? Is the movie of the same name? I know 12 Years a Slave is nominated for an Oscar. But Lone Survivor? I've not heard of that movie either.

message 25: by Lynn, Moderator (new)

Lynn | 4467 comments Mod
Sarah, please state what the film is for your book, so the nomination will count (mainly so I don't have to go searching ;) )

message 26: by donna (new)

donna (donnahag) | 23 comments I would like Gone with the Wind book and movie same name

message 27: by Sarah (last edited Jan 22, 2014 02:39PM) (new)

Sarah | 1467 comments Sorry - the Lone Survivor is Emily's nomination in an above thread, message 13.

My nomination is Winter's Tale - same title for book and movie - but it comes out February - I think it is on Valentine's day. So if this doesn't work that is o.k. But major brain fart. I am not nominating this book. I have no desire to read this book. I don't know what I was thinking. My only desire is to see the movie and drool over Colin Farrell. Sorry.

message 28: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 1467 comments Disregard my nomination

Cherene | 4 comments Dianne wrote: "Diane wrote: "I would like to nominate 'The Help'. Both the book and the movie have the same name."

I think this is one of the few that I actually enjoyed the movie more than the book. Although both were good.

message 34: by Beth (new)

Beth | 339 comments I loved both - I think it was a tie. It is so rare that I love both the book and the movie.

message 35: by Angela M (new)

Angela M I second Twelve Years a Slave . The movie is really deserving of the Academy Award . The book is on my kindle .
