Joo (jooo) | 1351 comments I've struggled with this month. But since the paperwhite has "hidden" collections, I can have 12 special ones and come back to books next year. My challenge can go on forever hahaha.

message 52: by [deleted user] (new)

That's the trouble with a back list challenge, as we're always downloading new books our reading choices are infinite.....

;0)

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Ooh, hidden collections. Yeah, there's always going to be a backlog!

message 54: by Joo (new)

Joo (jooo) | 1351 comments Not so much this month.
I'm doing one last one Not What She Seems by Victorine E. Lieske It's OK

Gordon Bickerstaff (gfb12345) | 14 comments Well done Joo. When the day comes for authors to review readers. I don't think a 6* 'voracious reader' would do you justice. It would need to be an 8* 'super-duper voracious reader'.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Wow! I haven't even read that this year!

message 58: by Joo (new)

Joo (jooo) | 1351 comments I have no other interests in life :)

message 59: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I'm reading so slowly this year, too much else going on.

message 60: by David (new)

David Haynes | 844 comments Great thread, Joo!

Joo (jooo) | 1351 comments May

I've started off with some shortish ones, just so it looks like I've done good.

Perfect Crime by Jack Erickson by Jack Erickson (2011) A bog standard can they get away with the perfect murder, but quite readable

Magical Crimes by Chris Dolley by Chris Dolley (2012) A rather silly premise about a magic detective with a long dong, but I enjoyed it.

I've binned a few also.
The Shepherd by Ethan Cross (2011)
DEAD ish by Naomi Kramer (2011)
Brand Loyalty by Cally Phillips (2012)
Diary of an Angel by Robert Avon (2012)

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments I like checking your thoughts as we have downloaded a lot of the same books. I can't remember if I read the Chris Dolly book or deleted it. I do have Deadish

message 63: by Joo (new)

Joo (jooo) | 1351 comments I couldn't get past the "young" language of Deadish.

message 64: by Joo (new)

Joo (jooo) | 1351 comments I've read two by Glynn James
Diary of the Displaced - Book 2 - The Broken Lands by Glynn James (2012) and Diary of the Displaced - Book 3 - The Ways by Glynn James (2013)

I preferred book 2 as it was more varied. Book 3 seemed more like a video game, go here, go there, kill them, find your way out.

I binned
BESET: Memoir of a Search for Happiness in Times of Crisis by Lee Bullen (2013)
Mr. Lonely by Eric Morecambe (2013)

I've just started Fixing Freddie A True Story about a Boy, a Mom, and a Very, Very Bad Beagle by Paula Munier by Paula Munier (2011). It's good so far.

message 65: by Joo (new)

Joo (jooo) | 1351 comments After reading reviews about Freddie being more about the author than a cute dog, I decided to bin it.

I did then read Goodbye, Enorma (Emmett Love #4) by John Locke by John Locke (2013). Not one of his best, it didn't seem to do much.

message 66: by Joo (new)

Joo (jooo) | 1351 comments Got Your Number by Stephanie Bond by Stephanie Bond (2012) 3.5*

I thought this would be proper chick-lit, but it was more of a cosy mystery. It could have been shortened a bit, but I did enjoy it.

Now I'm onto Me Again by Keith Cronin by Keith Cronin (2013). I dabbled with what to choose, and randomly picked this and it started interestingly. A bloke wakes up after being in a coma for 6 years having had a stroke.

message 67: by Joo (last edited May 19, 2014 08:57AM) (new)

Joo (jooo) | 1351 comments I really really enjoyed Me Again. It was nice and very readable.
I tried and got to about 30% of Dating A Cougar by Donna McDonald (2011) but couldn't take any more.

I'm doing my "classic kindle" challenge now Remix by Lexi Revellian by Lexi Revellian (2011). It is still a 5 star :)

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Me again sounds good

message 69: by Joo (new)

Joo (jooo) | 1351 comments Now I've started clearing out, it seems I have no patience to give a book a good go.
I've binned:
The Ghost Hunters Club by L.K. Jay (2012)
Head Cases by Scott Nicholson (2012)
Death Checks Inn by Sara Robbins (2013)
For Sale In Palm Springs by Albert Simon (2011)
The Baltic Triangle Codename Seaforth by Nicholas Clark (2013)

Books I finished:
Chop Suey by Ty Hutchinson (2012) 4*
I enjoyed this more than I thought.

And not a challenge one but the fantastic FAG by Jonathan Hill

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments That could be a shame. I have Death in Palm Springs to read this year.

message 71: by Joo (last edited May 30, 2014 12:28PM) (new)

Joo (jooo) | 1351 comments Murder in the Midi by Cecilia Peartree by Cecilia Peartree (2012) 4*
Your Magic Touch by Kathy Carmichael by Kathy Carmichael (2012) 3*

Binned
She's Gotta Be Mine by Jennifer Skully (2012)

I'm looking forward to having a new batch of books to look through.

message 73: by Joo (last edited Jun 13, 2014 03:18PM) (new)

Joo (jooo) | 1351 comments June

Starting off with some light ones:
Appraisal for Murder (A Jolie Gentil Cozy Mystery #1) by Elaine Orr by Elaine Orr (2012) 3*
A pleasant enough cozy mystery.
Stage Fright by Sara Downing by Sara Downing (2013) 4*
A nobody meets a just about to become famous actor. A nice chick-lit

binned:
North of Hollywood by Rick Lenz (2012)
Kissed in Paris by Juliette Sobanet (2012)

message 74: by Joo (new)

Joo (jooo) | 1351 comments And I rather enjoyed this serial killer story The Dead Room by Robert Ellis by Robert Ellis (2013)

message 75: by [deleted user] (new)

Wow - still doing really well, Joo! I haven't read any challenge books for ages....

message 76: by Joo (new)

Joo (jooo) | 1351 comments It's half way through the month and I don't feel like I've read much.
Except I read all the time:)

message 77: by Joo (new)

Joo (jooo) | 1351 comments Worth Lying For by Lisa Cheney by Lisa Cheney (2012) 3*
A reasonable chick-litty type book.

Park Avenue (Fifth Avenue, #6) by Christopher Smith by Christopher Smith (2013) 4*
I'm quite sad I've got to the end of this series. I have enjoyed them

message 78: by Joo (new)

Joo (jooo) | 1351 comments I'm now reading Without a Hitch by Andrew Price by Andrew Price (2012)
Two office workers decide to do some credit card / bank card scamming to see if they can get away with the "perfect crime". It is enjoyable.

message 79: by Joo (new)

Joo (jooo) | 1351 comments I must admit I thought Without a Hitch was a very good read.
Now I'm on 'Scuse Me While I Kill This Guy (Bombay Assassins, #1) by Leslie Langtry by Leslie Langtry (2012)
I got it for free twice.
It's an enjoyable chick-lit-assassin story.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Might put it on my wishist. Interesting how you got a book for free twice!

message 81: by Joo (new)

Joo (jooo) | 1351 comments I'd got it in 2012, then it was reissued via Gemma Halliday's new venture.
I also got it in a 77p for 10 books set.

And this lovely weather has been fab for reading as I just finished The Bow Wow Club by Nicola May by Nicola May (2013), the sequel to Working It Out. It was a nice romantic chick-lit story.

message 82: by Joo (last edited Jun 23, 2014 09:24AM) (new)

Joo (jooo) | 1351 comments Last night my bedtime reading was a short but gory read
Killers A Psycho Thriller by Blake Crouch by Blake Crouch (2013)

Today I've gone onto lawyers A Game of Proof by Tim Vicary by Tim Vicary (2013)

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Ooh, I've got both those to read

message 84: by Joo (new)

Joo (jooo) | 1351 comments I think you need to read Serial first. Crouch and Kilborn wrote the two characters separately and it kind of works.

A Game of Proof is good. If you like Mel Comley or Linda Gruchy, you'll like this.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Cheers, I may have serial. I love Mel's books but not tried Linda's

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Cheers, I may have serial. I love Mel's books but not tried Linda's

message 87: by Anna (new)

Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 1752 comments Wow! I don't know what else to say. I manage two or three a year. In a good year six or seven. And I love reading! Fortunately, I listen on CD's while doing the ironing and other chores - so perhaps that ups the totals a bit.

And it's so good of you to review them too.

Fascinating thread.

message 88: by Joo (last edited Jun 27, 2014 01:58PM) (new)

Joo (jooo) | 1351 comments Well I got all confused with these serial killer books.
I read Serial (but the uncut version thinking that was the full one), but had a look at Serial Killers Uncut and that has different bits again.
They are all quite nasty though, mainly about how all the serial killers in all the Kilborn, Konrath and Crouch books start off.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments It appears I don't have the Blake Crouch book but have read Serial. I also have one of Linda's books

message 90: by Joo (last edited Jun 30, 2014 02:00PM) (new)

Joo (jooo) | 1351 comments I've read some recent books
North Sea Cottage by Dorte Hummelshoj Jakobsen by Dorte Hummelshoj Jakobsen 4*
Message in a Bottle by Kath Middleton by Kath Middleton 4*

And my last for this month is a long one Killing Hope (Gabe Quinn #1) by Keith Houghton by Keith Houghton (2012) which is quite enjoyable. It's a police procedural serial killer book.

I've certainly read a lot of murders recently haha.

And to the bin went
RanDumb-er: The Continued Adventures of an Irish Guy in LA! by Mark Hayes (2013)
Death of the Couch Potato's Wife by Christy Barritt (2013)
Sleeping with Paris by Juliette Sobanet (2012)

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments You certainly have, but that's handy for me! How many is that this year?

message 92: by Joo (new)

Joo (jooo) | 1351 comments My challenge says 93 books - I'm going for 180 so it's a bit close. Mind you I have a fortnight off dog-sitting next month, so that will rack a few up :)

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Wow, that's impressive. I'm sure you'll make it.

message 94: by Anna (new)

Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 1752 comments 180? This is Guinness Book of Records stuff. An I know you really do read them, Joo, because you summed mine up better than I did.

message 95: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments 180 is nothing compared to what some people on here read. I'm pretty sure Pat or KAren or someone reads nearer 300 a year

message 96: by Anna (new)

Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 1752 comments 300 - excuse me, I need to go and faint.

message 97: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Might be Janet...

My challenge says 94, so there's 2 hiding under the sofa or something :)

message 100: by Anna (new)

Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 1752 comments Hi Joo, I can see you're fast, but isn't July only just starting? To have a summary like that on the third day is truly amazing. ;)
