Melissa | 74 comments I'm going to try to finally finish the Wool series. I had started on my iPad and discovered I cannot read too long on a computer screen, so I finally have all 5 books on my nook and would like to get through them over the next month

I've heard really good things about Tell the wolves I'm home Tracey! And all of the Middlemarchers: enjoy, I thought it was a great read!! I will probably dust off my notes on it and join discussion.

How is it February already? I need to think about this as I haven't even finished 1 book in January!

Heather wrote: "How is it February already? I need to think about this as I haven't even finished 1 book in January!"

I can sympathise, I only finished my 1st book of the year the other day, Heather! The time has flown in. I hope you manage to read something soon! :)

Shirley | 4177 comments Heather wrote: "How is it February already? I need to think about this as I haven't even finished 1 book in January!"

I can sympathize, too! At the moment, I am reading quite a lot, but last November/December time I had ground to a halt - just had no time to read much at all!

message 20: by Amber (new)

Amber Manning | 15 comments not sure what I'm reading in febuary but I am hoping to get back to my hunger games book I did finish fifty shades freed

message 21: by Katy (new)

Katy | 422 comments I will be reading East of Eden for my in person book club.

message 22: by GeneralTHC (last edited Jan 23, 2014 01:52PM) (new)

GeneralTHC All I can be sure of is I'm reading LES MISERABLES and I'll probably still be reading WAR AND PEACE, given all the other stuff I'm reading currently. I also plan on reading Boy's Life and Bring Up the Bodies. Oh yeah, I am hoping to do a re-read of Blood Meridian, or the Evening Redness in the West.

message 23: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (jeoblivion) | 4893 comments @Katy, East of Eden is another one of those classics that I haven't read. Looking forward to hearing what you think of it!

@Chuck: do you mind linking the title along with the cover? Us poor app-users unfortunately only see a sort of light-blue blank where the cover would be! Thanks :)

(edit: though there is progress, when clicking on the blank it now actually directs you to the book!)

message 24: by Leslie (last edited Feb 19, 2014 07:44AM) (new)

Leslie | 16369 comments @Chuck - are you reading War and Peace right now? Me too! I admire the fact that you are considering Les Misérables before finishing with the Tolstoy!

I haven't completely decided on my Feb. books yet, but here are some I do know about:
Middlemarch - so excited about this one!
The Wench Is Dead (buddy read in another group) ✓
Hamlet, Revenge! (personal challenge) ✓
Young Miles (if I don't get to it this month)
Knots and Crosses (probable BoTM for another group) ✓
Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead (our Winter Playwright)
poetry by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow changed to Derek Walcott
short stories by Alice Munro  changed to P.G. Wodehouse
The Swoop: Or How Clarence Saved England
Mike and Psmith

How far along are you? I am about 3/4 done now & would have to say that it moves right along...

message 30: by Leslie (new)

Leslie | 16369 comments I forgot that I was doing P.G. Wodehouse books in Feb.! Yay! So I am changing my short stories to some by him and adding at least 2 or 3 of his non-Jeeves books. I picked up about 10 of those when I first discovered public domain and still have some I haven't gotten to yet :D

An interesting book. You need to be little patient with the first 100 pages and then the novel races like a bullet train.

4. The Grass is Singing

message 41: by Beth (last edited Feb 05, 2014 07:18AM) (new)

Beth | 508 comments I finished The Almond Tree and thought it was terrific. I am now 3/4 of the way through The Secret Life of Bees and when I am finished I have to read The Good Lord Bird for an in-person book club that I just joined.

If I have time, I hope to get to:

The Language of Flowers
The Space Between Us
The Theory of Opposites

but this depends on how much reading I get done this month.

I thought The Giver was a good book. One of my daughters had to read it in high school and I was curious so I read it as well. I don't usually read those types of books but I enjoyed it.

message 48: by Angela M (new)

Angela M I don't either but it was recommended so I thought I would give it a try - its pretty short.
