Nat (writersbookland) | 14 comments Okay so I'm starting to like this better than I did before, but I still feel like this book is so lazily written.
I don't really like any of the characters and the whole sloppy love triangle is just cringe worthy.
And also, Cy's so-called "love" for Zel is just total bullcrap. I will be so frustrated if they end up together. I also think it would've been so much more interesting if there was a love triangle between Cy/Zel/Hex or Cy/Zel/Wilbert.
The whole scientific thing going on interests me a lot though, but the forshadowing of Zel's traits are just so obvious.

Nat (writersbookland) | 14 comments Also, I thought Cy was one of those awesome dicks that were dicks just because they enjoy to irritate people, but no. He's just mental. Urg. I thought I actually had ONE relatable character... :c

yeah they fell for each other in such a weird way. more co-dependent because of their sisters rather than anything else.

J. Chen | 5 comments I just got to chapter 14 and I don't trust Michael at ALL!!! I'm sure there is something to be said about me, that I don't trust nice guys but he seems TOO nice no?

Fille (feeyuh) I'm not sure why, but I have a hard time staying at attention with this book. I feel like I can only read a few pages at a time when I pick it up. I guess it's because I really have to think about what's going on with all these cool techno things. I don't know.

However, I like the story and it's starting to get pretty good. I don't trust Kw either. I like Cy, especially that he keeps sneakily leaving coffee for her in the lab. :) I can't wait to see where his and Zelia's relationship goes(hopefully they have one)!

T So glad I'm not the only one who's put off by the love triangle (but not really a triangle cause Micah's so shady I'm kind of losing faith in Zel's street smarts). What even was the scene in Zel's room? At times I think I like Cy but then he does something douchey that makes me want to throw something at him. On the other hand, Micah and Zel's conversations are so full of cheese that you could spread them on bread and call it a pizza. I am a fan of neither extremes, so I think the book would have been a lot better without any romance, or at least not such a quick one. Maybe if we'd gotten the development of a friendship first, with them talking about their sisters, and slowly starting to trust each other, and getting together in another book in the series it would have been better.

Vera is still my favourite, and I'm pretty sure that her and Hex are going to end up together at some point. (an example of the kind of romance I like - friends first and a slow buildup)

I love that Zel's relationship with her father isn't the best, and the scene in the library was so hard to read.

Carla (carlasstories) | 2 comments just finished chapter 16. I dont know who to trust anymore! Everyone feels like a threat! The scene with her holo dad made me sad.

L. (leightaylor) I'm on chapter 14 now but I wish there was more action. This book has an X-men feel to it but it lacks the funner side of X-men: seeing the powers. Yeah, we get to know the characters and what they can do but we don't get to SEE them doing it so it's easy to forget who has four arms and who has two heads. The way this story is going, there's obviously romance between Cy and Zel but I'm not feeling any sort of connection between them beyond "he's cute and I sometimes stare at him." Micah was there for only a few pages and he had more chemistry with Zel than Cy has had through the entire first half of the book. I'm just not sure why the romantic lead is less compelling than a secondary character who we barely know. I get that Cy is supposed to be broody and mysterious. But that doesn't mean he has to be boring! I think that Zel might end up having a power later in the book because that would be a good twist. Maybe her breathing problems are tied into it. I'm interested in finding out what Dyl can do. Seeing her in that club was really disturbing since she's so young. I like that we aren't told right away what everything does. That in this futuristic world, we're SHOWN what's going on rather than TOLD but sometimes,I'm left a bit confused. Since there's so much new technology and world building, there need to be less vague explanations for everything. For example, we know that America is divided up weirdly now. Some states have merged together and have new names. But then there are states that still have their names that we use and we don't know if they've grown in size and took land from other states or if they still look the way they look on our map. Only a few states have been brought up so we don't know what's going on with the rest of the country. Is our government still like it is today? I just think there are a lot of things that need to be explained more, maybe with a map or a glossary of their technology. Or there could've been a preface to tell us what America is like in the book. But other than the things I've listed that are bothering me, I am enjoying the book. I feel it's got a pretty original premise. Zel is a good protagonist and I like most of the other characters. That's it for now. Bye :)
