Justine (paperbackheart) I don't know if this should go here or in..Fun and Games maybe?

Where we are right now:
8 swappers (Justine, Lynn, Jamie, Matt, Nools, Heather, Annette, Annushu). Please feel free to join in if your name is not listed - I think this is going to be a lot of fun.
A poll has been created to see how everyone wants to go about this. It will be open until the 8th in case anyone else wants to get involved. We can deal with getting addresses as soon as the poll is over or people stop voting on it.
From that point, I think all mixes should go out by July 31.

Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 2140 comments Hey I'd like to join! Is there another post that talks about this? This is the first time I've heard about it.

message 3: by Justine (new)

Justine (paperbackheart) This kind of took over another post so it got it's own thread.

message 4: by [deleted user] (last edited Jul 02, 2009 02:34PM) (new)

I'd like to...but I'm not entirely sure yet as most of ye live in America, I live on a different continent!

message 5: by Liz (last edited Jul 02, 2009 04:57PM) (new)

Liz Could I get involved? I'm in the U.K. but I'll be back on the 14th (so whoever can just mail it to my house) and mailing a CD from here to the states won't cost too much.

message 6: by Justine (new)

Justine (paperbackheart) I think that would be okay.

message 7: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (lifeasabooknerd) I would love to participate, so count me in!

message 8: by R (new)

R (feste) Oh I think this is a great idea! I'm interested, but I live on a different continent too.

message 9: by Emily (new)

Emily O (readingwhilefemale) | 487 comments I would be interested if the mixes could go out in early August instead. I won't be home until then, so I won't have any music on hand to burn until then. I think the idea is great and I'd love to be involved.

message 10: by Kimberly (last edited Jul 06, 2009 05:52PM) (new)

Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 2140 comments When we get ready to do this add me as a friend here on Goodreads so that I can give you my address.
Oh,and to those of you who don't live in the US, I don't mind sending CD's out of the country, I figure you're spending the same amount of money to send the CD to me anyway.

message 11: by Justine (new)

Justine (paperbackheart) So I guess the poll closed. There are 17 participants/interested parties between this thread, the poll and the old thread. I'm going to list everyone here and if you are NOT interested anymore/just voted in the poll for the heck of it, please let us know because people are going to start messaging you for your address.

Lynn
Jamie
Matt
Nools
Heather
Annette
Annushu
Kimberly
Emily
Summer
Danielle
Michelle
Liz
Amanda
Roisu
R
Justine

I'm going to split this up into two groups (16 seems like a little much) when I get home this afternoon and will post them. It's going to be up to each individual to get the addresses/info they need. There are no doubled up names, so you can find the people in your group in the discussion here/Song Recommendations or as voters on the poll.

message 12: by Liz (last edited Jul 08, 2009 10:08AM) (new)

Liz Is the idea just that we send one CD to each person in our group or something along those lines?

message 13: by Nuri (new)

Nuri (nools) | 145 comments A suggestion for logistics of it is... one person to organize everything per group? And one person receives all the CDs from everyone, including a SASE in each person's package, reorganizes all the CDs in packages so that everyone gets a stack of mixes minus their own, and ships them out. It works pretty well in this other group, and I wouldn't mind being the coordinator-person for whatever group I'm assigned to.

Sarah (Mood Reader) (bookworm1887) I want to join!

Sarah (Mood Reader) (bookworm1887) I am confused on what exactly we will be doing but I would like to join!

message 16: by Justine (new)

Justine (paperbackheart) Liz, yes that is the idea.

Nools, that might be easier. I can do the other group if no one else wants to.

message 17: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 2140 comments Nools wrote: "A suggestion for logistics of it is... one person to organize everything per group? And one person receives all the CDs from everyone, including a SASE in each person's package, reorganizes all th..."

I'd be glad to help out with that.

message 18: by Justine (new)

Justine (paperbackheart) Sarah, you're in! We're trading mix cds, so you want to make one for everyone else in your group (group one) and send them all to Kimberly and with a SASE and she will send 8 back to you (made by the other people in the group). You can make one cd 8 times or any variation, really.

GROUP ONE:
Annushu
Annette
R
Lynn
Heather
Kimberly
Michelle
Jamie
Sarah

GROUP TWO:
Danielle
Summer
Roisu
Matt
Amanda
Emily
Justine
Nools
Liz

So Kimberly and Nools, you guys can be in charge of addresses and sending because you wound up being in different groups.

message 19: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 2140 comments Sounds great! Those of you in my group will need my address, you can PM me here on Goodreads or just email me. [email protected]

message 20: by Nuri (last edited Jul 08, 2009 04:51PM) (new)

Nuri (nools) | 145 comments Yes, please PM me for my address if you're still interested.

A couple rules for Group Two to make things easier:
1. Postmark deadline July 22 AUG 1ST!! Don't forget to include a SASE big enough for 8 CDs. (I'll try to keep everyone updated in case people drop out for whatever reason.)

2. Names on the CDs please (as in your own names/nickname)! So that they don't get mixed up.

3. (optional!!) It can be nice when people get craftsy or at least include a quick and dirty list of the tracklist/artists.

message 21: by Emily (new)

Emily O (readingwhilefemale) | 487 comments Hey, I'm not going to be anywhere near my music until the 29th, which means I can't burn CDs until then. I could maybe call a friend and get him to do it for me though, and pay him for the postage later. I'll figure that out soon and get back to you.

message 22: by Nuri (new)

Nuri (nools) | 145 comments Oh! That's right... hm... I feel like waiting until the 29th might feel like too long for people? But if everyone else doesn't mind, we should try to extend it for Emily?

It'll give everyone more time to put thought into their selection. : ) Should we do themes or require cover art or something? Like a personal manifesto mix or... whatever?

message 23: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 2140 comments I wouldn't mind extending it.

message 24: by Liz (last edited Jul 08, 2009 04:22PM) (new)

Liz Justine, thanks for explaining!
Nools, I'm sorry, but can you plase explain what a SASE is? Do you mean something which is prepaid to be sent back to us? I don't know about everyone else, but if I have to ship something I usually buy one of those ready post boxes at the post office--if anyone figures out if any of them are an ideal size, perhaps they could post it on here.
Also, I don't mind extending the postage deadline, but whatever works for other people is okay with me.

message 25: by Nuri (last edited Jul 08, 2009 04:40PM) (new)

Nuri (nools) | 145 comments Liz: Self Addressed Stamped Envelope.

Or it can be a folded pre-paid(/stamped) shipping box, if you don't mind the extra pay and wanted to make sure they didn't break or something. *If you ask the post-office person, they can give you an estimate on the cost. It should be similar to the price of sending your own 8 CDs (same distance, same weight); you'll be buying postage for both ways.

This way, everyone pays for their own shipping only.

Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner) (perpetualpageturner) | 4407 comments Mod
I don't mind extending it either.

message 27: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 2140 comments I'm going to go with the same rules as Nools for our group.

message 28: by Nuri (new)

Nuri (nools) | 145 comments Deadline extended. Is that enough time for you, Emily? If not, just let me know!

message 29: by Emily (new)

Emily O (readingwhilefemale) | 487 comments That's great, thank you. :)

message 30: by Nuri (new)

Nuri (nools) | 145 comments Awesome. :D

message 31: by Sarah (Mood Reader) (last edited Jul 09, 2009 03:20AM) (new)

Sarah (Mood Reader) (bookworm1887) Thanks for letting me in. I have a couple of questions.

1.) Does it matter what types of songs go on these 6 discs?
2.) I am trying to figure out an SASE, that would be big enough and easy to send.
3.) What is a postmark deadline?

Anyone have any ideas? Thanks!

message 32: by Liz (new)

Liz To answer your third question, the 29th. I think the first one would be a no.

message 33: by R (new)

R (feste) This sounds great.

In response to Sarah's questions:
1) I think anything goes. (I rather like Nools' idea of picking a theme, though. What do you think, guys?)
2) I'm afraid I can't help you with that yet because I'm trying to figure it out myself!
3) Essentially, that means that you should mail your CDs by 1st August

Not being an American resident (and hence having no access to US stamps), I'm afraid I can't do SASEs for within the US; and the postal service here doesn't do International Reply Coupons... Can anyone think of any other options I might have for paying my intra-US shipping? I'll head down to the post office tomorrow to make enquiries, but any ideas would be greatly appreciated! :D

Sarah (Mood Reader) (bookworm1887) Yeah, I like the theme idea too.

Sarah (Mood Reader) (bookworm1887) I thought of another good question.... how many tracks? I know some CD's can burn up to 25.

message 36: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (lifeasabooknerd) I think for the first round, everyone should just fill up the CD with whatever songs they want to pick and however many can fit. Then, maybe after everybody gives feedback, we can do a theme?? I'm choosing songs that I love this summer, anyway. Happy burning people!

Sarah (Mood Reader) (bookworm1887) So we have to send it out on the 29th?

message 38: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 2140 comments Sarah wrote: "So we have to send it out on the 29th?"

You can send it anytime, just as long as you send it out by the 29th.

Sarah (Mood Reader) (bookworm1887) I am still unsure about what to use as an SASE. I know what it is, but what to use is the question.

message 40: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 2140 comments Sarah wrote: "I am still unsure about what to use as an SASE. I know what it is, but what to use is the question."

I'll stop by the post office on my way home from work today and ask which kind of packaging would be best, and then post the answer here.

message 41: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (lifeasabooknerd) Well, if you burn mp3 tracks, as opposed to music tracks, a cd will hold hundreds of songs, but only mp3-readable players will be able to play them. Mine can!!

message 42: by [deleted user] (new)

yeah i recently burned some nice tracks on my cd and also an mj favorite (billie jean)

message 43: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (lifeasabooknerd) I was thinking of doing an MJ cd as my theme... probably won't though.

message 44: by Justine (new)

Justine (paperbackheart) Wow, everything took off yesterday haha.

Tracks: I would think that you would just fill up the cd with as many songs as you can. Themes are definitely okay. Anything goes, but I would like to suggest thinking of your recipients - maybe not sending a Twilight mix if you know everyone else in your group hates Twilight or (and this is JUST AN EXAMPLE, I'm really not trying to be rude) if SBG was playing, you wouldn't send her a CD full of thrash metal or songs where every other word is a swear word, you know? Not that I think any of us are that sensitive (or insensitive as a sender), but...helpful hint I guess.

SASE: I think sending a semi-large PADDED mailer envelope would be sufficient and I would use the cost of postage for the envelope you are sending off as a the amount to use for the envelope you're getting back. I would even put a little extra postage on it, so that you'll definitely be covered.

message 45: by Spencer (new)

Spencer (spencerafreeman) DAMN! I have been MIA from goodreads & this group for a while because of work and I missed this awesome CD swap :( Well, next time we have something like this I DEFINITELY want in!! I've missed you guys!

Sarah (Mood Reader) (bookworm1887) So would it be alright to fold the other envelope so that it fits inside the other envelope?? Wow... does that make sense?

message 47: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 2140 comments lol, yes that makes sense. And I'm sure that would be fine. I can always stick the envelope under a heavy book to take out any major creases.

message 48: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 2140 comments And Anastasia, we haven't sent the CDs out yet, so you might still be able to join in. What does everyone else think?

message 49: by Spencer (new)

Spencer (spencerafreeman) OOh! Say yes! :) If not, I'll wait around for the next one...

Sarah (Mood Reader) (bookworm1887) That's fine with me.
