Post a short blurb of your book here and let us decide in what genre the libraries should classify it.

Dare to give us the reins and let us decide?

Mark Bordner Sounds fun !

A 17 year old girl from a small town enlists in the Global Marines in search of independence, adventure, off-world travel, even romance. All was well until the alien gun ships began appearing over our cities...

I'd say:

Science Fiction---Alien Invasion.

Or maybe:

Science Fiction---First Contact.

Brian Basham (brianbasham) | 390 comments @Bisky sounds like fantasy to me. weeeee

message 9: by Mark (new)

Mark Bordner Nicole and GG, very close. YA sci-fi/romance/war. I went for a medley of flavors, Lol.

Bisky-Fantasy/Mystery ?

@Bisky That's a tough one. I'd have to go with Fantasy too or maybe Urban Fantasy, but I've got a feeling there is more to it than just that.

Your blurb doesn't say enough!!!!

The magical world could be parallel world, or time travel or just something hidden she never knew existed...

@Mark Oh, I should have thought of YA with the 17 year old...

/slap face (Yikes, that was MY face, not YOURS of course!)

J. David Clarke (clarketacular) | 418 comments "Eight students. A lonely bridge on a dark night. When their school bus careens off the bridge and crashes into the river, they are lucky just to survive. But soon, they discover they possess strange powers, like the power to read minds, to fly, or to resurrect the dead. And that's just the beginning. None of them knows exactly what happened, and each remembers something different. Now, they are being hunted down one by one, and to survive they must piece together their memories and solve the mystery of the missing time."

message 13: by Mark (new)

Mark Bordner Ooooh, J. ! You just sold me on that one, is it available ?

Let's see, I'd guess Fantasy/Action. Sounds like dark divisions of the government hunting them down to keep the secret quiet.

message 14: by T.J. (new)

T.J. West (tsalcedo) J that was really good! I'd say Action/Thriller perhaps?
Mine is too easy but here goes

I didn’t deserve this woman, but held on tight while she brought her lips onto mine. The taste of her sweet, warm tongue melted my inner core. She fit into my soul like no other; I knew from this day on I couldn’t live a single day without her. She was meant to be mine. Always

Muhahaha you shall all ponder over my vague blurb! :P

and Tiffany I think yours is romance... But it could be a thriller

As he is hers.

Always...

._.

Now you know why my Viking can never leave me >:D

message 18: by Brian (new)

Brian Basham (brianbasham) | 390 comments Bisky's blurb may be vague, but mine is non-existant right now. I need to come up with something.

Here's a blurb for my story that's on wattpad...

The Ghost is a master thief who has stolen a strange artifact. The artifact is part of a set of armor that gives strange abilities. She is compelled to complete the set. There are side effects that make her question whether it is worth the sacrifice. The quest propels her towards a conflict with the people who have raised her since she was little, the Guild of Thieves. She is still compelled to move forward as the addictive nature of the armor takes over. She follows the addiction all the way to her own personal hell. Will she be able to escape it?

Gah... I feel like I suck at this. This is better than what I have on wattpad right now, so copy...paste....

message 25: by Harmony (new)

Harmony Kent (harmonyk) Loving this thread! Okay, here's my effort at a blurb (I really hate writing the blurb) :3

"The Wenstrops have it all: health, wealth and happiness. But then it all begins to fall apart. Helen is arrested for murder, yet is either unable or unwilling to give a defence. During her detention, vital evidence goes mysteriously missing and tensions are running high. Helen finds herself surrounded and yet alone: not knowing who she can trust or how she can tell her enemies from her friends. Helen has to work through her self-doubts and fears, in order to know whether her suspicions and misgivings are valid or simply products of an overwrought mind. There are those who would like to encourage her confusion, and those who would help her – but how to know one from the other? And then there are those who actively mean her harm. Meanwhile, malignant forces in the forest are gathering power, ready for a final assault. Helen finds herself in a battle of life and death, and faces having to lose everything in her attempts to thwart the evil that has insinuated itself into her very existence - but is she ready to make the ultimate sacrifice?
This sensational second novel by acclaimed author Harmony Kent will have you alternately laughing, crying and gripping the edge of your seat as this roller coaster ride of a plot unfolds. It will keep you guessing through its many twists and turns, and hijack your attention right up until you turn the final page. This book has it all: murder, intrigue, the supernatural, a broken marriage, a love affair, courage against impossible odds, suspense, and high drama."

So ... which genre??

well, I'd say a little of fantasy and tons of thriller

message 29: by Harmony (new)

Harmony Kent (harmonyk) @ Nicole -- you're doing fine at this game :D

@ Tiffany -- great guess :3

I really struggled to place this book--and I wrote it lol !

Thriller/Suspense -- it fits both. Most sites don't have this genre though .. it has to be either or.

@ Brian -- I would have to say yours is fantasy/urban fantasy ?? Did I get anywhere close?

It's a relief to see I'm not the only one to shy away from writing my blurbs ! :D

message 30: by Brian (new)

Brian Basham (brianbasham) | 390 comments For mine I had it listed as fantasy/adventure to start. A friend of mine said it scared the crap out of her every time she read an update, so I had to add a horror label to it. Urban fantasy isn't far off. It's got a bit of psychological thriller in it too.

Roger Owen Bishop (rogertheriter) | 1 comments Unholy Orders by Roger Bishop

Richard Walker the protagonist decides to re-invent himself, to improve his chances of obtaining a better life for himself and his family. This leads him to the hallowed corridors of the Church of England by one or two twists of fate.
Here he discovers he is not the only charlatan working for this august institution, and finds himself torn between doing what he knows is right, and feathering his own nest for the sake of his families future.
Ultimately he chooses family over conscience, and discovers a way to ensure his family's financial future forever.

My publisher had it listed in Religious and spiritual inspiration/ Biographical fiction. I have changed this, where do you think it belongs?
