Season 1
The Ghost is a master thief who has stolen a strange artifact. The artifact is part of a set of armor that gives strange abilities. She is compelled to complete the set. There are side effects that make her question whether it is worth the sacrifice. The quest propels her towards a conflict with the people who have raised her since she was little, the Guild of Thieves. She is still compelled to move forward as the addictive nature of the armor takes over. She follows the addiction all the way to her own personal hell. Will she be able to escape it?

This is a serial that I update weekly on Mondays.

I started this mainly to have an example of my writing on my blog when I first started. I have come up with several ideas since then to turn this into a much longer story. I have ideas to keep this going for three (maybe more) story arcs or "seasons" as I am calling them on wattpad. I am planning on having a serial running on wattpad for as long as I can. I am going to work on another serial in between seasons of this one. I just made a new cover for this. I would love to hear any opinions on the writing and/or cover art. I thought I had posted this earlier, but I couldn't find it.

Brian Basham (brianbasham) | 390 comments I just wrapped up season 1 of The Ghost. I also went past 2000 reads for the story. I woke up this morning to see it was ranked #1 in horror and #2 in Fantasy on Wattpad. Probably won't stay there long, but I had to take a screenshot for my own amusement.

brian, in another thread i questioned the value of using the standard social platforms to engage and grow an audience. i know near zero about wattpad but i'm impressed that you've gained such high rankings there. does high ranking convert to income?
not that i'm in the least bit interested in money.
of course.
the standard platforms require a daily investment and little roi for most writers--does wattpad buck the trend?
writing in serial form is interesting. does it have unique problems? strengths?

Brian Basham (brianbasham) | 390 comments It's all free. It's mostly a place to try to build an audience or give potential readers a chance to read some of your writing. Any place where you can build a readership and spread the word of your works to others will help expand your circle of influence. The larger your circle the better chance there is that you can get them to buy something in the future. There are no guarantees in this world, but I'm going to try everything I can. Higher ranking means more visibility on their website.

Serial stories aren't any harder to write than any other story. I just wrote it in chronological order updating every week. If you can't write that way then you can break the story apart afterwards. I know of one author who posted their entire first novel chapter by chapter on wattpad, and that helped drive sales for the rest of the series.
