Let's first finish off the last 2 rows, which means we need to fill YA, Short Stories, Historical Fiction, Culture, Humor, Myth/Fable, and Biography.
Next we should set up the 2 diagonal strings, filling the red slots on Erin's chart:
#1 Chick Lit, Mystery, Steampunk, and Biography
#2 Suspense/Thriller, Dystopian, Short Stories, Cultural
Once we get volunteers for all of these, we'll see if we can fill in the verticals. We may not actually get all the strings read, but if we set up to win, maybe we can come close.
We don't have to finish stings in the order we are setting them up. In fact, we may end up finishing the strings requiring only 4 books early on. As we go, I'll try to be sure we're working together to finish strings and not end up with several orphans with only 2-3 books read.
I'm off to work and will check to see where our volunteers fit tonight. Please be sure that the ones you pick are not on the same vertical, horizontal, or diagonal line with the one(s) you're already reading.

For my crime pick, I will read either The Redbreast or Nemesis. They are both on ebook.
I think I'd have no problem squeezing in another audiobook.
Put me down for short stories, and I will listen to 20th Century Ghosts which is 12 hours long.
Now, I'm off to change my spreadsheet.

You got it!

Do not assume the genres listed on a book's GR page are correct. If you aren't sure, look at the summary and if you have any questions - ask me! This is especially true for cultural books. A lot of people (and I'm sure I've done it too) use cultural-country/continent just because the book is set there. Remember, to be considered cultural the book must actually have info about the culture! And it needs to be more than a brief mention.
Culture has been defined as:
. the total of the inherited ideas, beliefs, values, and knowledge, which constitute the shared bases of social action
. the attitudes, feelings, values, and behaviour that characterize and inform society

Science/nature: Science & Superheroes Bombara/Valenzuela(not listed in GR)
Culture: Cows, Pigs, Wars, and Witches: The Riddles of Culture
Myth (don´t have the title yet, but can find something)
Also:
Non Fiction: (The Gender Knot, perhaps)
Humor

Does the book "Life is So Good" count as a cultural book.

Welcome to the Gold Team! I just have a couple of notes on your choices. Books must be listed in Goodreads to qualify for this challenge. Jaxnsmom must be able to verify the book, including pages, genres, etc.
Cows, Pigs, Wars, and Witches: The Riddles of Culture is listed in the library with a Dewey Decimal designation of 305.8, which means it is a non-fictional work discussing Social Groups, specifically ethnical and cultural groups. I think Jaxnsmom will approve this for culture, but it's best to run it by her.
The Gender Knot: Unraveling Our Patriarchal Legacy is sold as a textbook and should work for non-fiction.
I hope you have fun with this!

You can add Classic, Romance, Humor, Fantasy, Myth/Fable, Suspense/Thriller, and Biography. Crime would work, but Janice and Annette have requested the two spaces for that one.
The alternative would be to drop YA or Dystopia, but we really need 3 to read Dystopian and you're the only volunteer so far!
Let me know what you'd like to do.

To read:
Contemporary: La Liste de mes envies
Dystopian Shards and Ashes:
Possibilities:
Folly: mystery, crime
Murder, Plain and Simple: mystery
The Atrocity Archives: scifi

Chick Lit - Fly Away Home by Jennifer Weiner
Every Chick Lit List and Chick Lit Genre shelf has it listed.
Memoir - The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank
I can get these 2 done rather quickly (at most 4 days) since I own them. Any other space you need me, Theresa? Can't do steampunk tho.

Oh! I checked the rules before making my list and found nothing about books having to be listed in GR (my bad, I presume).
That is kind of sad, because most of my books are not there.
But Ok, it is what it is.

Will it do?

Hey Theresa if Kat wants crime that's ok with me. I was mostly trying to fill in the spaces that needed filling. With cultural being on a corner it eliminated a bunch of other options. If I read cultural and steampunk(which doesn't seem too popular) then I am left with crime and action as my only remaining choices. But will read whatever you need me to read. :)

I think this could be OK

I'm playing with your options. Since you chose Chick Lit and Memoir, your other options will be
Row 2 - Paranormal, or Action/Adventure
Row 3 - Romance, since Crime is full
Row 4 - Contemporary, or Historical Fiction
So...if you want to do 5, you'd do either:
Chick Lit, Memoir, Romance, Paranormal, and Historical Fiction or
Chick Lit, Memoir, Romance, Action/Adventure, and Contemporary
The alternative would be to either change Chick Lit or Memoir or get one of the players doing Crime to switch out.
Let me know so I can lock you in.

I can do Historical Fiction - The Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey is on the most read Historical Fiction Genre

OK. I did. I´m waiting for reply

Esther, we really need Dystopian, so I'm going to put you down for that since you listed Shards and Ashes.

Most Read This Week Tagged "Paranormal".
Not one of my favs, but I need it for the SRC.

I'll say yes, since it seems like a good bit of it will be about the culture of the old south, where racism was prevalent.

In setting everyone up, I realized that we can only do a blackout if 12 people each read a book in a corner! If you pick a corner book, it knocks out all other corners, so with 13 people on the team, we need all but one person to read a corner book.
The corner options are:
Chick Lit - Anne plus 2 more
Suspense/Thriller - Roz, Erin, and 1 more
Cultural - Annette, Mariab, and 1 more
Biography - all 3 needed
Joe, I think Biography was your top pick, so I'm going to move you there and leave Action/Adventure for someone else to claim.
I hope we can get some corner volunteers. I'm going to see if I can set myself up with either Chick Lit or Biography and fit in a total of 5 books.

Science/nature: Science & Superheroes Bombara/Valenzuela(not listed in GR)..."
What's the actual title? If it's on amazon, or somewhere else, that'll work. And the title certainly sounds like it's fit.
And Cows, Pigs... is good.

A book doesn't have to be in GR. If it's obvious what genre it is by the title, or it can be found somewhere else, then that's ok.
Theresa - take a deep breath and relax - I'm not going to make everyone get approval for every book, just check on ones they're not sure of. I don't want you stressing to be 100% positive about a book. Enjoy yourself!

I could read a Chick-Lit (taking one for the team ;) )
Would Epic Fail do?

It works for either.

And I´ll drop Science & Superheroes (that is the actually title), because it seems to be more a essay (not enough scientific rigor). Instead I´ll take: _Why Is Sex Fun? The Evolution of Human Sexuality

I do apologize. I belong to a couple of other groups in which all books must be in Goodreads to be considered. I mistakenly thought this group did the same.
I already have you down for the Culture corner with Cows, Pigs, Wars, and Witches: The Riddles of Culture. You're also down for non-fiction.
With the restrictions in the rules, that leaves you with three other possible books for the challenge. There is a max of 5 unless we complete the Black Out and start a new card. Your choices for the other three would be either:
Classic, Action/Adventure, Contemporary or
Fantasy, Mystery, Historical Fiction
Let me know if you want some of those or if you want to change Culture or Non-fiction to give you different choices.

Would you like me to add these? You might have to be blunt with me....'ERIN UPDATE THE CHART'....in all caps and everything...I just want to make sure I don't mistakenly miss anything and let you down!

Im not so sure about The Gender Knot (for Non Fiction), but I have offered Science to: Why Is Sex Fun? The Evolution of Human Sexuality, wich applies for Non Fiction to, I belive?
I also enlisted for Chick Lit, because you suggested we all must do one corner. But I have my corner alredy.
Not much interest in Mistery, Action or Classic.
Epic Fail count as Contemporary?

Chick Lit - Anne - need 2 more
Classic - Annette - need 1 more
Fantasy - need 2 (I moved mine to pick up vacancies and a corner)
Horror - Janice & Theresa - Full
Suspense/Thriller - Roz & Erin - need 1 more
Science/Nature - Casceil - need 1 more
Mystery - Kirila - need 2 more
Paranormal - Theresa - need 1 more
Dystopian - Kat & Esther - need 1 more
Action/Adventure - need 2
SciFi - Sam & Theresa
Romance - Casceil - need 1 more
Non-Fiction - Joe & Mariab - Full
Crime - Janice & Annette - Full

Cultural - Annette, Mariab, Janice - Full
Humor - Roz - need 1 more
Myth/Fable - Erin - need 1 more

Erin, I just put together the list. I think folks will understand it more once you update your chart!
