Erin | 32 comments So I've finally picked my books. This is what I've got....
Steampunk - Infernal Devices by K.W. Jeter
Myth/Fable - A Kiss In Time by Alex Flinn
Suspense/Thriller - Before I Go To Sleep by S.J. Watson

Theresa~OctoberLace (octoberlace) | 1090 comments Ugh! We had a meeting at work this morning to discuss upcoming deadlines. Bottom line is that we've got tons to do, meaning later nights and some weekend work. So....

If I don't work this Sunday, I would only lose part of my planned Saturday reading times, so I can still get my 5 books in. I'll read the shorter ones first and substitute shorter books for the longest ones if I run low on time.

message 305: by Esther (new)

Esther (nyctale) | 5195 comments Well, i will read myself into a corner.

Comtemporary: La Liste de mes envies
Dystopian: Shards and Ashes
Sf : Flowers for Algernon
Classic: Absalom, Absalom!

I hope you don't have to work too hard so that you can play with us.

Erin | 32 comments Does anyone else think it would have been funny to make Joe read Chick Lit?

message 308: by Casceil (new)

Casceil | 2728 comments Sounds mean to me. Besides, we need him for bio.

I agree Casceil. My comment should not to be taken seriously. I meant it only as a silly thought :)

Actually, Joe has a wide variety of books on his tbr shelf, some of them chick-lit, although I doubt that was the reason he picked them. Anyway, I think we all knew you were just joking, and no meanness was intended. Gave me a bit of a chuckle, Erin.

Joe | 93 comments I would do it if I needed to!!!

I agree. Joe should be our team mascot or something. That is some serious Team Gold devotion.

I agree! Way to go Joe! Look Erin, your silly comment has given us a team hero!! ;)

Theresa~OctoberLace (octoberlace) | 1090 comments Joe is a music teacher and very involved with his students! He recently attended his state music convention, then he had a Coffee Concert for his kids and judged a solo and ensemble contest. With all he has going on, it so nice that he's finding time to read with us!

message 317: by Sam (new)

Sam (ecowitch) | 2354 comments Got my list finally sorted:

Horror - Ghost Stories
Sci-fi - Last Human
Historical fiction - October Skies
Myth/fable - Aesop's Fables
Mystery - Blackroot

message 318: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59964 comments I think I already posted my list, but just to confirm:

Horror - Rotters
Cultural - The Book Thief
Crime - either The Redbreast or newly acquired The Devil's Grin.

I was reading one of the other team's threads and saw The Devil's Grin listed. It's just over 200 pages long. Redbreast is double the length. So now I'm thinking my chances of completing my commitment of 3 books is higher with the shorter book.

Decisions, decisions!

message 319: by Casceil (new)

Casceil | 2728 comments Here is my list:

Science - The Grand Design
Suspense/Thriller - Joyland
Romance - A Week to Be Wicked

Last time I looked, we had two people on Romance, and only really needed one. We had two incomplete threads that each needed three books covered: I down and the fourth row across (strings 10 and 11 on message 278). If I moved from romance to Steampunk, the fourth row across would still be missing young adult and short stories, but we could pick up one more string if anyone could cover those. It seems unlikely at this point, but I wanted to raise the possibility.

message 320: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59964 comments If you give up romance, that string will be short. Right now your romance makes up the middle string going across with Sam, Joe & myself.

message 321: by Casceil (last edited Feb 13, 2014 08:03AM) (new)

Casceil | 2728 comments Kat is also on romance, and I was thinking we could count her for that string, but never mind. I will read romance.

Anne (Booklady) Molinarolo (wwwgoodreadscomAnneMolinarolo) | 1282 comments Teammates, my soon to 88 year old father had an accident this morning and hit his head. He has stitches in the back of his skull and had some bleeding on the brain. he was transferred by helicopter to St. Mary Hospital in Evansville, IN. I've got a bag packed in case I need to fly back home sooner than I thought I might get back up there.

I still can and will read my 3 books:

Chick Lit - Fly Away Home
Historical Fiction: The Snow Child
Memoir: The Diary of a Young Girl

I don't know if I can do more because the Neurologist hasn't finished all of the tests on Daddy.

Theresa~OctoberLace (octoberlace) | 1090 comments I'm so sorry to hear about your father, Anne. Family comes first, so don't worry about the reading if you need to be elsewhere. I'll keep your father in my prayers.

Esther (nyctale) | 5195 comments So sorry Anne. i hope he recovers. And as Theresa just said, family comes first.

message 332: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59964 comments I will be thinking of you during this difficult time. My mother will be 88 in June, and she is very slowly recovering from her third stroke back in October so I empathize with what you are facing right now. Big hugs! Do not worry about the Toppler. It's all in fun. Real life takes precedence.

Anne (Booklady) Molinarolo (wwwgoodreadscomAnneMolinarolo) | 1282 comments Teammates, Good News!!!!!!
Thanks for all of your well wishes and prayers! =) They worked, and I'm very grateful.

Daddy is out of the hospital. The bleeding of his brain was very minor. He still can't remember how he took a head dive in his garage. Colleen and my brother and sister in law will be staying with him this weekend - which is good.

One out immediate danger, 1 to go - Aunt Frances. I hope her surgery will go without complications and they get all of the nasty cancer.

This means I can still do the Toppler!!!! =) I've had enough excitement; reading my books is exactly what I need right now. =)

message 337: by Casceil (new)

Casceil | 2728 comments Anne, I'm glad to hear that your father is doing so well. I will keep my fingers crossed for your aunt.

Theresa~OctoberLace (octoberlace) | 1090 comments I hope everyone on Team Gold is able to get off to a good start on the Toppler. I have to go into work on Saturday, so instead of starting at 11 CST where I am (Noon EST), my reading won't commence until I get off work, hopefully before 5pm. I have my iPod loaded so I can start on the drive home. I'm still trying to decide whether to start with the shortest first or get the longest out of the way. Most likely I'll see what grabs me when work is done!

message 345: by Sam (new)

Sam (ecowitch) | 2354 comments I'm ready to go, books piled on the coffee table waiting to go :-) start at 5pm here so can get all my errands done and out the way this morning too!
