Geoff (geoffgreer) I'm currently embarking on my first reading of the Wheel of Time series and am currently about 60% through The Eye of the World. I know that Tor has an extensive reread of the series on their blog but they warn that there are spoilers all the way until the end of the 11th book, even in their analysis of the first book.

Does anyone know of another reread type blog for the Wheel of Time that I can follow along with as I read the books at my pace? Cheers

terpkristin | 4407 comments http://encyclopaedia-wot.org/ is my go-to place for stuff.

They're not so much a re-read thing as they are a wiki-type, but they do tend to focus their summaries on the important parts, add relevant footnotes to help clarify things or their thoughts as they read. I'd recommend looking at their write-up for some of the early chapters in TEotW and see if it is "ok" for you.

Don't know of any specific blogs related to book discussion without spoilers, though.

Geoff (geoffgreer) That's a great site and I'll keep that bookmarked for later (when I inevitably take a long break between books)

It's possible that I won't be able to find something like a Tor reread without spoilers. But I'll report back if I do.

Scott Silver | 10 comments Geoff, just be careful. In encyclopaedia-wot, they show some of the stuff that shows up later (prophecies fulfilled and the like) in the footnotes. Other than that...I don't know of a site that is doing a first read of the series. You can always send me a message with theories, questions, and merely exclaiming about the Crowning Moments of Awesome in the books. It's my favorite series, and I always love to talk about it. :-)

Fiona (deifio) | 95 comments I recently started re-reading myself. I actually used the tor re-read blog a bit although I'm only at Path of Daggers. I'm here if you'd like to talk about characters, plot point etc.

That's a tremendous idea. Whether here or a new group, I'd definitely be interested.

Geoff (geoffgreer) Well, I just finished Eye of the World. Unsurprisingly, it was a terrific book.

I can see a good reason for having Brandon Sanderson finish the series. Besides being a very good writer, he's known for the 'Sanderson Avalanche' in which the pace/action pick up near the end and really push you to keep reading. I found that EotW was definitely pushing towards the ending over the last 150 or so pages

Christopher Preiman | 347 comments If someone does want to set up a group for this, the Malazan group doing their read through would probably be a good model to work from. Mind you I am simply making suggestions not volunteering. I already run 2 book clubs and don't really relish taking on a third at the moment.

Thanks, I think it's worked pretty well for us. Although we probably had 20 people join for book 1 and only 4 of us are left, but we've added a few new faces along the way.

I suspect based on the size of the membership that there are people who are simply reading the discussion but not joining in themselves for one reason or another.

Having that core of people actively participating in the discussion is important for keeping the momentum since we've been at it for over a year now...

This series gets very bogged down in the middle in my opinion, and can be hard to get through to end where things got really good again IMHO.

Geoff (geoffgreer) I'm afraid that having a Wheel of Time group similar to the Malazan one wouldn't be great for me. I know would participate that much (maybe a question here or there) and my reading habits don't match up with a scheduled reading plan. I understand how it can be a great system for some people but, for me, I know that at times I'd want to read much faster than the schedule and at other times I'd delay the next book for a later time.

When I read the Malazan series (after I'm done with the Wheel of Time), that group will be great for me as I can read through the discussions as I go.

Well no one says it has to be done the same way, but based on my experiences running a few groups on good reads now, coordinating reads between even a few people so that it's good for everyone is tough if not impossible.

The detail of the discussion we do for Malazan is probably overkill for Wheel of Time.

Christopher Preiman | 347 comments Perhaps something a bit simpler then, a 1 book a month system like other groups do might work better, and allow members to make the conversation as thorough as they want. Not dissimilar to how S&L does things.
