Ann | 273 comments With Valentine’s Day coming up, this month’s challenge is to read a book about relationships— fictional, or non-fictional. (Seeing as romances aren’t everyone’s thing, the book can be about romantic relationships, but it doesn’t have to be; it can focus on family relationships, friendships, owner-pet relationships— you get the idea.)

Debbie (dashforcover) | 1219 comments Oh goodie! This fits in with the books I'm currently reading so I'll be able to do this challenge, too!

message 3: by Susan (new)

Susan (sudsandbrewer) | 30 comments I am going to finish Safe Haven. I am also going to read either Living a Covenant Marriage or Between a Man and Women.

message 4: by Debbi (new)

Debbi (kepola95) | 2 comments I just finished reading a great book about relationships called "The Dog Who Danced". A good read.

Now I am starting "Harvesting the Heart" by Jodi Picoult.

Britt, Book Habitue (britt--bookhabitue) | 767 comments I just started Under the Jewelled Sky which seems fitting for this one. :)

message 6: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (dashforcover) | 1219 comments I'm reading The Great Hunt by Robert Jordan, 2nd book of the Wheel of Time series. Close friendships. I'm also listening to the audiobook of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. Undeniably friendships in it!

alisonwonderland (Alison) | 70 comments I will plan to read either The Husband's Secret or The Rosie Project (or both) during February.

message 8: by Christy (new)

Christy I read The Rosie Project this weekend. Great February book. Challenge complete!

message 9: by Carolyn (new)

Carolyn (justknitting) | 137 comments I just got an Amazon Prime book called "When We Met"? I don't remember the title for sure, but it sounds like it will work for this challenge.

message 10: by Apryl (new)

Apryl (aprylflynn) | 1 comments I loved The Rosie Project. It made me laugh out loud! I listened to the audio book.

message 11: by Jennie (new)

Jennie | 43 comments I just finished Echo in Time by CJ Hill. Though there are a couple of low key romances the relationships between identical twins is linked more closely to the book's theme.

Debbie (dashforcover) | 1219 comments I finished The Great Hunt, #2 in the Wheel of Time by Robert Jordam. Continuing the tale of Mat, Perrin and Rand, friends from a small village who were chased from their homes by monsters that they thought were only tales to frighten children. They confront that one of them is, indeed, the Dragon Reborn -- a man who can channel the One Power. One who will eventually go mad from that ability and destroy everything and everyone he loves. The other two pledge to him their continuing freindship and support. (a very vague synopsis)

message 13: by Suzy (new)

Suzy (animalfriend46) I just finished reading Hidden on my Kindle Fire app called Wattspad. I don't quite understand the whole publishing thing about it but it was my first read on the app and I couldn't put it down. It's by conleyswifey I believe or something like that. It's a light romance.

message 14: by Ann (new)

Ann | 273 comments I just finished The River of No Return, one of the current Reader's Choice books. It's got Napoleonic War heroes, nefarious relatives, time travel, secretive organizations, a budding relationship between the hero and the heroine, and a unknown threat that is altering the future and moving back in time toward the past. Definitely, an enjoyable read, though the cover isn't all that eye catching.

message 15: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (jackie123) | 263 comments I just finished "The Rosie Project" too, and it is an excellent, laugh out loud, romance. I am also listening to "A Month of Summer" on CD, but it concerns family relationships, not so much romantic ones.

message 16: by JoAnn (new)

JoAnn (jladybug) | 144 comments I'm rereading Cranford and enjoying it so much more than I did the first time.

I love books that have humor in them in addition to the story as a whole. Sounds like I'm going to have to take a look at The Rosie Project.

message 18: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (dashforcover) | 1219 comments I finished reading Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. We follow the continuing saga of Harry Potter with his close friends Ron Weasley and Hermoine Granger as they take on more challenges from the Dark Lord and his various minions.

message 19: by Bawissa (new)

Bawissa | 6 comments Hi all! I haven't done many of these challenges, but I want to start doing them more. I plan to read One of Those Hideous Books Where the Mother Dies. It is a book of poems that tell the story of a teenage girl learning to love the father she never met while dealing with the loss of her mother. I've read it before, and I highly recommend it!

Question: Does it still count for the challenge if I've read it before?

Yes.

message 21: by Becky (new)

Becky | 280 comments This month I read The Golem and the Jinni which was great, and Ethan Frome, both of which deal with relationships.

message 22: by Bawissa (new)

Bawissa | 6 comments Debbie, thanks for answering my question! :)

I finished One of Those Hideous Books Where the Mother Dies, and loved it every bit as much as I did when I read it for the first time!

message 23: by Alyson (new)

Alyson | 98 comments I read "Flora and Ulysses: The Illuminated Adventures," and it definitely dealt with relationships.

message 24: by Carolyn (new)

Carolyn (justknitting) | 137 comments I just started "When I Found You". Hopefully it is good! Was looking at some other books that people are reading, I enjoyed the Rosie project and I would love to read the Golem and the Jinni.

message 25: by Mary (new)

Mary | 25 comments I just finished reading "Memoirs of a teenage amnesiac" which deals with a lot of different relationships including boyfriend and girlfriend types. Also it was a really good read and quite enjoyable!!

message 26: by Em (new)

Em | 70 comments If anyone is still trying to decide what to read for this challenge, I think I have the perfect one for you. Just finished The End Of Your Life Book Club. It is about a mother and son, their relationship and their love of books which takes them through a tough time.

message 27: by alisonwonderland (Alison) (last edited Feb 20, 2014 04:05PM) (new)

alisonwonderland (Alison) | 70 comments I finished The Husband's Secret. I found it quite compelling - and the ending was perfect!

I've got The End of Your Life Book Club on my to-read list. I'm glad to hear you enjoyed it!

message 29: by Marinda (new)

Marinda (marindak) | 30 comments Just finished Small Grain of Sand. The vacation descriptions were fun.

alisonwonderland (Alison) | 70 comments This morning I finished The Theory of Opposites , which explores many kinds of relationships. It was surprisingly thought-provoking for a chick-lit-ish read.

message 31: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 112 comments I read Divergent, Insurgent, and Allegiant which deal with family relationships, friend relationships, relationships between factions/groups of people, and boyfriend/girlfriend relationships. I also read The Giver which had unusual family relationships...and the relationship between Jonas and the Giver.

message 32: by Carolyn (new)

Carolyn (justknitting) | 137 comments I am still working on When I Found you. But I finished Children of the Fog, which was also about relationships. It was about a mother and her son as well as her and her husband and her and her best friend. All 3 are very different relationships, and shows hope and forgiveness in regards to these relationships.

Love your description of this book; I've heard about it, but haven't read it. Looks like I've got another book on my holds list-- thanks for the enthusiastic endorsement.

Ann | 273 comments Hey everybody! Just a quick reminder: tomorrow is our last day for this month's reading challenge. Make sure to post what you read by tomorrow night if you want to be included in the prize drawing next week.

message 35: by Susan (new)

Susan (sudsandbrewer) | 30 comments I finished Safe Haven. I also read Gone Girl. I really enjoyed Safe Haven. Didn't really like the writing style or the ending of Gone Girl.

message 36: by Ann (new)

Ann | 273 comments Our February prize drawing winner was Jennie. She read Echo in Time.
