Cat (kippycat) | 15 comments I think this is a book I'm thinking about, but it could possibly be a movie so I apologize if that's the case.

The book I'm thinking of is Young Adult I think. I can't remember much about it, so bear with me, and if you have any idea that even resembles what I'm talking about please comment because some of these details may not be right!.

The setting that I remember is beachy/islandy, with a jungle/forest on it/near it.
Somebody washes upon an island of some sort. It has some traces of technology, maybe walkie talkies or lightbulbs, but other than that there is no traces of the modern world. The main character is confused by the lack of modern technology, but the faint traces of it.

One of the leaders of the town/village's daughter was a healer/nurse of some sort who gets the main character back on their feet. Everybody (some people?) is wary of this person (the main character?) washing up on their shore, there is a council of some sort ruling on whether or not to trust him? The council may have met in a cave sort of thing. I also think I remember some kind of group of older kids/early teens who ran around the area and the main character tried to join the group. They may have been trying to devise a plan to run away.

At some point the main character threatens to tell town about the outside world or something of the sort and the background of the town is revealed? Something having to do with not wanting to destroy the earth and run off of technology like the rest of the world did/does (can't remember if it is set in future or "present")

I'm not sure haha. It's a *very* fuzzy memory, I couldn't even tell you when I might have read it (or seen it?) Probably written sometime within the last 30ish years, and it must be at least a few years old since I don't remember much about it at all which means I didn't read it TOO recently

Duplicate thread deleted. (It's better to edit an existing thread rather than create a new one.)

Cat (kippycat) | 15 comments Sorry about that. I meant to delete the other thread when I realized imposed in the wrong folder.

Cat (kippycat) | 15 comments Fantasy. As far as I can remember it was like a civilization that took very basic technology from the modern world and then did away with everything else. And then started over in complete isolation

Aleix Jorba | 2 comments It wouldn't happen to be The Wicker Man, old book based on an old movie, would it?? Your post really pulled that out of a long forgotten corner of the vaults for me! Written by Robin Hardy and Anthony Shaffer

Cat is still looking for this.

Did you check out "The Wicker Man" by Robin Hardy?

Cat (kippycat) | 15 comments Yeah it wasn't that. Thanks for the suggestion though

Clackamas | 23 comments Not YA, but this description has much in common with The Island by Aldous Huxley.

Thank you for the suggestion! I read the summary and it does seem very reminiscent but it's not quite what I am thinking of.

Cat, around what year did you read this book?

How old are the main characters?

Is it a post-apocalyptic/dystopian novel (e.g., No Dominion by Louise Welsh)?

Another guess - The Reef by Mark Charan Newton?
