Go Set a Watchman discussion

What are people's thoughts about Go Set a Watchman? Will you be reading it as a prequel, an alternate version of TKaM, or avoiding it altogether? Myself, I haven't decided whether or not I will read it. I might, if only as a way of studying Lee's creative process.

Actually its a sequel that was supposed to come out when to kill a mocking bird did, it's scout all grown up. but i am so excited to read it, i read to kill a mocking bird freshman year of high school. and when i heard there was a sequel coming out i was like i think i am going to read this. i got it last night.

Everything I've heard indicates that it was an aborted first attempt at Mockingbird. Lee's editor told her to write the story around the flashbacks to Scout's childhood, with Mockingbird as the result.

Because there are way too many questions as to who what when where and how and why? did "scout" get to where she is now. so they wanted to see the history of her character and the others, to show the growth of them and to see how they got from point a to point b. the first chapter is really good. Harper Lee is a phenomenal writer.
