A few lines or a paragraph needs to be added to this section of the manual: How to merge two author profiles. The following is the gist of it.

Sometimes both of the authors to be merged appear in the book record. After they have been merged the book record will have duplicate authors. Example:

Living Rural by John Walton, John Boy Walton

After merging John Walton and John Boy Walton, the book record will appear:

Living rural by John Boy Walton, John Boy Walton

It will be necessary to then delete the duplicated entry.

hi- There's another author with the same name, Lynn Wood, My new book, Mary Elle...The Chosen One and one of the books in my Norman Brides Series, The Promise Keeper are showing under her page instead of mine. Can you fix this? Please?
I believe you have me as L.M. Wood, but my recent books have Lynn Wood as the author- Can you fix this?

Since the books have Lynn Wood on the covers, I added Lynn Wood as primary author and L.M. Wood as the secondary author on Mary Elle, The Promise Keeper.

Librarian Manual -
Some authors write or have written under multiple names. When editing or adding information for a book written by an author with multiple names, enter the author's name as on the front cover as the primary author. The author's other names may be added in the other author fields. Additional author profiles may be linked directly from the About Me section on the author profile


I think a lot of your books need Lynn Wood to be added as primary as the covers depict that name. Waiting for experienced librarians to chip in.

Hello, I would like to change my author name because I am relentlessly getting two other author's book on my profile and I would like to stop having to ask for them to be removed. I would be grateful if you could give me some information on how to achieve this. Thank you.

You can contact GR support and ask them to dis ambiguated you so your name as spaces between first and last name.

You will then need to request your new books moved to the new profile unless you add the same yourself before the automatic imports do.

I have librarian status, but I need help with what to do with this one:
This author https://www.goodreads.com/author/show... is the same as this one https://www.goodreads.com/author/show...
He wrote his last book, Isak, https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2... under another name than his first ones, so that is why he has two profiles. I have tried to add his most used name to the novel Isak, to make it appear on his author profile, but it won’t stick.

Because it is not straightforward to add the author names that are very identical. There is a work around for it.

And please, everybody, start a new thread in a different folder in future, this one is for additions to the Librarian Manual, not for correcting specific author names.

That said, I do believe that the issue in #1 has been solved. When I merge author names, I've noticed lately that the books that had both versions before the merge no longer have the name in duplicate after. Therefore an update is no longer needed, I think.

Requests to merge non-GR author profiles should be posted in the Book Issues folder.

This folder is for additions to the Librarian Manual, i.e. to do with policy.
