Melinda Brasher | 31 comments If you're trying to sell short stories to magazines, find a literary agent, or otherwise get traditionally published, the most important thing (after producing a quality product), is to send out those query letters and manuscript submissions. I sometimes find it hard to find the time and motivation. So… I'm starting the Sunday Night Query Society.

Like NaNoWriMo, the Sunday Night Query Society is a motivational program, to help keep you on track. Many of my non-writer friends don't understand NaNoWriMo, and how you don't "get" anything for it. What you get is 50,000 words or more that you wrote. That's huge. For the Sunday Night Query Society, what you will get is…well, rejection slips, but hopefully you'll also get some acceptances. And even the rejections are good, because it means you're out there trying, risking. You ARE a writer. And that's huge.

The goal is to submit one query letter, short story submission, article pitch, etc. every Sunday. If you succeed each month, you'll earn a gold star by your name. That simple. But the act of signing up for something like this, showing your goal in public, and then being accountable to yourself and others…that's what has made NaNoWriMo so successful.

And who knows, we might even be able to help each other with queries and publishing advice.
