Dawn (breakofdawn) | 860 comments *SUPER BOOK PUSHES*

message 153: by Chris , cookie guilt (new)

Chris Haught (haughtc) | 2450 comments Heh. I was talking yesterday about needing to lower my committment TBR and I'm being pushed into a 1000 page tome.

While I'm working on Malazan.

And the same day I won a First Reads that I'll need to review.

Cool. I'm in. When we reading TWOK?

message 154: by Dawn, Dawnerys, Mother of Modding (new)

Dawn (breakofdawn) | 860 comments Lol, it may be 1,000 pages, but who cares? So it takes longer to read it. Cut it in half and consider it two books in a series :P

But in all honesty, if you do want to read it.. I'm going to finish Howl, and then read Mr. Shivers... So I'll probably be starting it late next week.

message 155: by Chris , cookie guilt (new)

Chris Haught (haughtc) | 2450 comments If it's as good as y'all say, it won't seem overwhelmingly big. I might even read it faster than I do some shorter but less interesting ones.

I'm sure tempted.

message 156: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) TWOK May be long, but it's awesome.

message 157: by Chris , cookie guilt (last edited Feb 12, 2014 06:46AM) (new)

Chris Haught (haughtc) | 2450 comments Well, if I just look at last year,

I read Great North Road & A Memory of Light, both at over 900 pages. They didn't seem overwhelming at all.

Not to mention, I re-read (audio) the entire ASOIAF series. None of these dragged near as much as some of the 200-300 page books I read.

message 158: by Emily (new)

Emily (ohmagichour) | 510 comments I want to reread it too! Anyone want to buddy up if we are all reading it anyway?

Emily (ohmagichour) | 510 comments Great - when?

message 162: by Chris , cookie guilt (new)

Chris Haught (haughtc) | 2450 comments Dawn's looking at late next week. Nienna's already started. We could split the difference.

Start Monday, the 17th?

message 163: by Chris , cookie guilt (new)

Chris Haught (haughtc) | 2450 comments And....since Stormlight is part of Sanderson's overarching Cosmere series, I'm not going to have to spend a credit. Hehe

I've already read all the Mistborn books, Warbreaker, and Elantris.

message 164: by Dawn, Dawnerys, Mother of Modding (new)

Dawn (breakofdawn) | 860 comments Cool with me. I'll probably start around Wednesday.

message 165: by Chris , cookie guilt (new)

Chris Haught (haughtc) | 2450 comments We need to recruit some other noobs.

Colleen?

message 166: by Dawn, Dawnerys, Mother of Modding (new)

Dawn (breakofdawn) | 860 comments Lol :P

message 167: by Lee (new)

Lee | 939 comments I haven't exactly "started" yet. I only read the prologue so I can put TWoK on hold until next week. :)

message 168: by Chris , cookie guilt (new)

Chris Haught (haughtc) | 2450 comments That's up to you, Nienna. I know you read faster than most of us. But it's a big book. We'll all be on it toegether just in different parts...

message 170: by Dawn, Dawnerys, Mother of Modding (new)

Dawn (breakofdawn) | 860 comments It's gonna take me 2-3 weeks to read it, just saying. I never have time to read on the weekends anymore.. Wedding planning is a huge time suck!

message 171: by MrsJoseph *grouchy*, Bad Girls Deadlift (new)

MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) | 5312 comments I've really got to finish Steelheart. But I just have no motivation for it.

Pass.

message 175: by Chris , cookie guilt (new)

Chris Haught (haughtc) | 2450 comments I'd say that all the cool kids are doing it, but that never works...

Sounds great, Emily..

message 176: by Chris , cookie guilt (new)

Chris Haught (haughtc) | 2450 comments Jackie and I get to be TWOK virgins together...

message 177: by Paolo (new)

Paolo (ppiazzesi) | 166 comments The Way of Kings? I´m in!

I already ordered it from my local bookstore but it hasn´t arrived yet, supposedly it´ll get here sometime this week.

message 178: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (bookgoddess1969) | 331 comments One of these days, but I have too many books that I'm set on getting to right now. Enjoy! :)

Looks like you're going to have to readjust this fantasy to include Paolo. LOL!

Heh. Don't look at me. I'm a virgin. Somebody else needs to drive this car.

Jackie (thenightowl) Chris wrote: "Heh. Don't look at me. I'm a virgin. Somebody else needs to drive this car. "

I'll do it as long as you are not a backseat driver ;-)

You can ride in the backseat with me. We'll let Paolo drive.

message 184: by Jackie (new)

I buckled on Mistborn, I'm not committing to both.

message 186: by Chris , cookie guilt (new)

Chris Haught (haughtc) | 2450 comments Oh yeah? Good deal. Hope you like that.

I guess you're better off going with the shorter option.

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 1381 comments I was just reading over this thread...I think we may either need to stop using abbreviations or possibly add a "key" for the uninitiated who arrive at the thread.

ASOIF- A Song of Ice and Fire
TWOK- The Way of Kings
TWT (TWoT)- The Wheel of Time
LotR- Lord of the Rings

TCoTC-The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant (alternately the Chronicles of "Total Crap")

TRR-The Riyra Revelations
KkC-The Kingkill Chronicles

I'm sure there are others.

message 188: by Chris , cookie guilt (new)

Chris Haught (haughtc) | 2450 comments LOL! I like the Thomas Covenant one.

Maris McKay (maris_mckay) | 3 comments Emily wrote: "Maris wrote: "I've been reading Kristin Cashore's Graceling Realm books. Recently finished the first book and I'm about to start the second. I really liked her world-building and character developm..."

I just finished Fire. I thought at first it was going to be too similar to Graceling in terms of the main character's story arch, but it wasn't. I really liked some of the characters, particularly Brigan.

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 1381 comments That was my own (well known) take on Covenant.

Kara (sterlink) | 74 comments Chris wrote: "LOL! I like the Thomas Covenant one."

Ditto. lol

All,

Am passing on the re-read for TWoK, I am hoping my memory will serve... (although I do plan on reading the very ending again, there was something important there). But if anyone wants to buddy read Radiance, let me know!

MrsJoseph,

I can't seem to finish Steelheart either. It was good, but I stopped, and just don't have the desire to pick it back up. I will... sometime, hopefully.

message 193: by Lee (new)

Lee | 939 comments I finished A Time of Miracles. It was definitely *not* what I was expecting. The earth's spin has decreased and continues to decrease making the day and night cycles longer and longer. It isn't a sci-fi book though. The events are told thru the eyes of a twelve year old girl. It was good. But haunting. Very haunting. Like in a I feel like I will never be happy again way... I tend to avoid apocalyptic stories.

I'm not sure what to read next but, I need something happy damnit!

And I started my reread of A Clash of Kings (instead of The Way of the King which I will read next week with the buddy read).

message 194: by Chris , cookie guilt (new)

Chris Haught (haughtc) | 2450 comments Kara, tor.com did a TWOK re-read: http://www.tor.com/features/series/th...

If you'd like to review it for discussions....

I'm so glad it's not just me. :) I was starting to feel weird.

message 196: by Nyssa (last edited Feb 13, 2014 05:17PM) (new)

Nyssa | 2023 comments I'm so behind in my reading this month it's painful! I have to laugh at myself when I see how optimistic and ambitious I was just two weeks ago.

I'm slooooowly crawling my way through Earth Abides ( omg I almost used Alan's title - A Dude Abides!).

message 197: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Don't feel bad, Nyssa. I'm in the same boat. I am WAYYY behind on my January reading, which has bled into my February reading, and I keep eyeing non-group read books and being tempted by them because it's starting to feel like work. :(

Maybe it's just Earth Abides that is making it that way. That book's fantastic reactions from everyone are hanging over my head like a black cloud of dread. But then I feel bad when I think that I'll just skip it because Emily is so looking forward to my shred review. LOL

message 198: by Katy (new)

Katy (kathy_h) Reading The Way of Kings, getting ready for release of book #2 in March.

Thanks Becky.

As to your forthcoming (we hope) response to Earth Abides: I don't blame Emily! Your shred reviews are epic! I'll be sitting right beside her sharing the popcorn. :)

message 200: by Emily (new)

Emily (ohmagichour) | 510 comments Oh Becky, I'd rather you were reading and not feeling guilty about it. But man I do love your shred reviews. Maybe just read the first 3 chapters and give me some tasty morsels. ;)
