Bargle | 1753 comments I've recently read 2 Buddy Holly biographies, "The Buddy Holly Story" by John Tobler and "Remembering Buddy" (revised edition) by John Goldrosen. I read another Holly bio 10+ years ago that I don't remember the title or author of. It differs from the other 2 in these details:

Describes 2 sexual encounters that Buddy had.

Explains the "dark meat" remark event that they got wrong in the movie.

Hinted that Buddy was considering divorcing Maria. Made her seem like a money grubber.

Mentioned that on one of the songs he recorded by either Paul Anka or Bobby Darin, that after rehearsing it a bit, they got it perfect on the first take.

Has Buddy telling Waylon Jennings that he should be a country singer.

Speculates that Buddy would have become more active producing records for others if he had lived.

Says that Buddy's hometown didn't seem to care much for him and the memorial statue doesn't look much like Buddy, in the author's opinion.

So, which one was this?

Google books search brings up the phrase "dark meat" only in the Goldrosen book.

Bargle | 1753 comments Well, it's definitely not the Dave Laing one, as the book I'm wondering about came out after the movie with Gary Busey.

Thanks for doing the Google book search. I didn't think of that. I'm betting it's the earlier version of the Goldrosen book that came out in 1979. My local library system has removed any earlier books by him, so I can't check it immediately.

I'll post a note when I'm sure.

Bargle | 1753 comments Well, I was wrong. It's not the earlier Goldrosen book. It's Buddy Holly: A Biography

Thanks for the help, Lobstergirl.
