M (buffetoflies) | 125 comments Might have been spelt different. I can't remember anything other than the main characters (or an important character anyway)name being harlequin. I'm usually wrong about the publish date but probably mid 90's.

Got so into it I 'lost' 40 minutes and almost missed the bus home. Anxiety due to extreme possibility of missing that bus made me forget what the book was about :(

Tab (tabbrown) | 5084 comments Do you remember the cover?
Time period/location story takes place?
Part of a series?

Do you know what genre the book falls into? If not, what genre did you normally read?

M (buffetoflies) | 125 comments Don't remember the cover. Time period seemed modern. Don't think it was part of a series. Probably was a 'coming of age' type story.

The Mysterious Mr. Quinn has a fairly main character who is named Harley Quinn. (view spoiler)

While not "modern" and new, this book has been re-released a dozen or more times since Agatha wrote it, lo those many years ago.

M (buffetoflies) | 125 comments Not that Ann. I've never read an Agatha Christie book. I know she's pretty popular.. I just never gotten into her. I did just think of another book to add to my read shelf though.

stormhawk | 183 comments Repent Harlequin, said the Ticktock Man is a short story by Harlan Ellison. It has made me miss a bus stop. Check it out.

M (buffetoflies) | 125 comments stormhawk - No, but looks good. I've added it my 'to read' shelf.

i think the characters were in middle school and it was aimed at someone a bit younger than me at the time I read it.

Anna | 505 comments There is short story named "Harlequin Valentine" by Neil Gaiman and there were also Harlequins (they were some kind of warriors) in The Traveler by John Twelve Hawks. None of them are aimed for middle-grade children though.

Tab (tabbrown) | 5084 comments Did you read it in the 90s or at a later time? What genres do you normally read?

message 14: by M (new)

M (buffetoflies) | 125 comments I read it between 2001-2003. At the time I only read YA and that is what it would have been.. I started to read it in the school library. The book was probably published in the late 80s or early 90s. I don't think the school library ever bought new books for itself. I just saw an article in the paper that the new librarian was going to or has gotten rid of a lot of the books to make room for modern technology.

Also, it was a soft cover book (not sure if all books first come out as hardcover) and probably less than 225 pages. Also, it was smaller in dimension Not very wide or long.

Krista | 148 comments Not Harlequin, but the first thing I though of was Harley (Like a Person) https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...

Ed (edcaley) | 21 comments The Traveler by John Twelve Hawkes??? been a few years since I read it but believe that one of if not the main character was Harley

The Traveller by John Twelve Hawks for Edcaley's suggestion.

message 18: by M (new)

M (buffetoflies) | 125 comments Can't be the traveler because that was published in 2006 and i definitely read this book before the 2004.

Krista's suggestion makes me wonder. The plot is something I definitely would have gotten into, but I am not sure the school library would have had such a recently published book, plus the book I read was fairly beat up and old looking.

M ~~
You can "bump" your thread every month or so. This pushes your thread back to the top of the folder instead of languishing here on page 176 where fewer eyes will see it. Get back in the game! Bump!
You can do this by typing a new comment at the end of the thread, or even by typing the word "bump."
Good luck!
