DNF - Did Not Finish Books
I used to always finish books I started but like the picture above I have such a big list of books I want to read and so many on my shelves that I don't like to waste time and push myself to finish something I am not enjoying. The last series I forced myself to finish was The Immortals series by Alyson Noel. I really should not have wasted my time. I also DNF some other popular books like The Maze Runner, Throne of Glass, The Vincent Boys and Beautiful Creatures because they were just not for me. I was so bored and I just couldn't do it.

Some books that I started but never finished are The Casual Vacancy, 1984, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time and The Blackhouse.

Twilight the first one
A book on the life of Shakespeare
Julius Caesar biography, horribly written

manifest by artist arthur was one such.

No, because once I finish a horrible book I'm overthrown by the horrible feeling to have wasted my precious little life on it.
"At what point do you give up on a book?"
First chapters, the middle of the book, depending on the level of horrible. Some have a better way of masking their flaws than others.
"What are some books you started but never finished?"
85 books so far: https://www.goodreads.com/review/list... (all listed here). The one and 2 stars read books managed to fool me till after the middle of the book and if I got that far I'm going to finish it, but not give it a favorable review.

It could the most amazing book ever but all the drama or action (or watever youre into) happens towards the ending. :) Please take this advice unless of course its the WORST book youve ever read and you cant stand to look at it.

honestly, I don't think it's worth my time to finish a book I know I'm not going to enjoy. I'm considering giving up on the Pretty Little Liars series because it goes on forever.

But the first ever book I read and after reaching 3/4 of it I totally gave up was

I gave up on this book because it was really disturbing and long.

The Maze Runner I found the premise interesting, but I just couldn't get into it.
The Kidnapping of Christina Lattimore I was so annoyed by the writing of this book and the characters. I still don't have any intention of finishing it.
The Hunger Games I have picked this book up and put it down so many times. I hold on to the hope that maybe I'll get around to actually reading the series, especially since I'm repeatedly told I have to get half way through the first one before it picks up, but I just get bored or annoyed reading it. (I know, that's a horrible thing to say about this series, but it is what it is.)
The House of Night series. I read the first few books, but I lost interest in the series.
Misguided Angel I read the first four books of the Blue Bloods series. I struggled with the fourth one, but it at least picked up. However, the fifth one, I still have it sitting on my shelf. I started reading it and I just didn't like it. The writing was different, the same characters felt different and honestly just annoying, I just couldn't do it. I just didn't enjoy it.
Keep in mind these books span a few years, so they are the exceptions not the rule. I really do try to finish the books, but once in a while I get that one book that I just don't have the patience for.

I'm too curious about every story, so I have to read every page.

But I made the biggest mistake of my life for not being able to contain myself when I saw the second and third book, Torment and Passion up on sale at the bookstore.
I bought them, and forced myself to read them since there was no way I was spending my money on things I would end up ditching.
So I read Torment, and by the first 50 pages, I swear I was going to doze out. but then I kept on forcing myself up to the end of the book.
And by the end, I felt like I was losing my mind. I didn't even get what was happening.
By then I swore that I wouldn't even try reading Passion.
So yeah, up till now, those two books are still in the back of myself, no way am I ever gonna pick them up.
And I learned from my mistakes. NEVER pick up anything you know is crap even it it's on sale in the lowest most outrageous price ever.

A series that I haven't finished and I'm not planning to is the House of Night Series!
I don't think I'll ever finish the Morganville Vampire Series, too. I loved the first few books but there are, I think, 15 (?!?!?!?!) books in this series and sorry, but that's WAY too many!!

HOWEVER, there are a few books that are so horribly written/make no sense that I simply cannot finish it. Before this year, I put down maybe 3 books over a 5 year period. 2014 brought me 2 books that I could not finish. Hope this is not a blossoming trend!

for this reason i have a rule: i have to at least read the first 100 pages of a book
if i break that rule the book is basically a bag of shit
no offense
some books that i couldnt finish were josh and hannah, caught, until november, sinister kisses and plenty more.
but like say if i want to finish a book purely over the fact that i want to know what happen i just skip pages and read only the dialogue
i get the book finished within the hour

Like I was almost finished with alliegent even though it was killing me, and someone told me, a special someone died at the end. I stopped reading after that because it just seemed pointless.

I usually give a book something like a 100 pages to impress me before giving up. If after that it's still not amazing, but better, I'll read up to the half mark. If I read this far and it's STILL not clicking, chances are it never would and why torture myself when there's a TON of other books I want to read, who are probably more for me?
Also, my DNF percentile really grew the last few years with the introduction of free kindle books to my life. Too many of them are kind of awful...
Here are some very much loved book that I never finished though...

Books I DNF:
Les Miserables: I think I left during an commendably extensive description of Parisian Sewers.
House of Night No. 2. Marked? No. Hidden? Bitten?
Dune: I'm sad about this one since it's so well-loved. I'll probably try this one again.
Allegiant: This one was very close. I had to make myself finish this. It just seemed so far-removed from the two books that I loved.

Some of these included..
1. We were Liars- this just moved way to slow and I didn't find the main characrter interesting or engaging.
2. Maze Runner- Once again not engaging!
