Can I nominate The Nine Tailors by Dorothy L. Sayers, it was published in 1934.

Just started to re read this book, love all of Sayers books

Margery Allingham? the Campion series? Flowers for the Judge ( the one I found in my bookshelves!) was published in 1936. I expect her others were about that time. But she is not to everyone's taste, though I love Albert Campion.Flowers for the Judge

Patricia Wentworth wrote the Miss Silver mysteries, two of which were published in the 1930's, Lonesome Road and The Case Is Closed; the first 8 of Ngaio Marsh's Inspector Alleyn mysteries were published in the 1930's
