Square In Wonderland Book Club discussion

Here is the spoilery discussion for Chapters 1-10!

I wasn't so keen on the opening chapter, but really started to get into it as it went. I feel like Caymen's voice took a couple of chapters to really establish itself if that makes sense. Maybe it's just me, it's just the first chapter worried me a little, and then I forgot why I was worried!

I just started reading and I already love Caymen... I think we need more sarcastic, sassy leading ladies in books :)

Yeah she's great! Had an answer for everything, which I like.

My thoughts during this section:

I love Caymen! She's sarcastic and has this dry humor that I just can't get enough of!

I have a feeling that something is wrong with her mom, Susan. Caymen often asks her mom if everything is okay because sometimes her mom acts out of the norm. Maybe it is foreshadowing.

I am already in love with Xander even though we don't know a whole lot about him yet.

I loved the Q&A sessions between Caymen and Xander.

Questions I came up with during this section:

1. Do you think that Caymen's dad will show up in the book?
2. Do you think that Caymen's mom is hiding something?
3. What do you think about the Crusty Toads?
4. Did you secretly hope that Mason was going to be the sole love interest or did you want it to be Xander?
5. What's your take on Skye?

1. I hope not.
2. Absolutely, she seemed like she was hiding things from the first time we meet her.
3. They sound atrocious XD however, although I thought Henry was kind of weird (and the nickname thing...argh) he grew on me a lot, I kind of pictured him as Fred from Big Hero 6 and I'm glad he turned out to be a decent guy. I liked that Caymen called him Toad too!
4. I actually couldn't stand Mason. Not that be was a bad guy or anything, I was just like GET OFF THE PAGE. he seemed like a pointless addition to the story, because he never liked Caymen enough to fight for her and she never liked Mason enough to make Xander that jealous.
5. Skye was okay, a good friend I think, but not there that much. I found it out that Caymen said she lived vicariously through Skye when Skye actually seemed to have as little of a life as Caymen?

LMFAO about your answer to the "Toads"! haha. Yes, Henry grew on me and I'm glad he was decent.

Also, I WAS THE SAME WAY WITH MASON! I was like "GET AWAY! GIVE ME MORE XANDER!" haha.

And Skye, yes, I was waiting for more of Skye. We like barely saw her and I'd like to see more of her and see her DO more.

I loved Xander!!! I was thinking that her father was going to show up.

1. I honestly hope not. She doesn't know who he is or what he does or anything like that. But I do hope he does show up because I have a feeling he is going to be very rich and he'll end up closing off the gap between Caymen and Xander.

2. YES! For sure. I think she might be getting back together with her dad or spending money on something she shouldn't be.

3. It doesn't really seem relevant with the story. I mean, they're a band and her best friend's boyfriend is in it. Other than that, I mean I don't really have an opinion about them.

4. Xander! I mean, I may be swayed because it talks about Xander on the back of the book and doesn't even mention Mason. But I don't really know enough about either guys to make the statement of which I like better.

5. She's funny and she is a good friend for Caymen. I think that she is going to end up either doing something really helpful for Caymen or helping her have a revelation.

MY TAKE ON CAYMEN: I don't really like her. I mean, she says stuff that is funny and I know that her sarcasm is definitely to mask something more, but she just frustrates me. I understand that she is poor and Xander is rich, but that doesn't mean she should just stereotype him. It just frustrates me.
