Dan | 2 comments Hi I'm a new librarian.

I have a question: How do I separate books that have been incorrectly combined as different editions?

Cait (tigercait) | 4988 comments There are two ways:

(1) The simple way is to go to the "combine books" page from the author's profile or from various other book-related pages. In the list of the author's combined books, find the set of editions in question and click on the "separate" link beside the ones that need to be separated. If you separate two editions that should be recombined with each other, then do that next from the same page.

(2) The fancier way is to use the separate tool. From the "combine books" page, below a set of combined editions is a link to a "separate tool"; also, from the "show all editions" page is the same link. In the separate editions page, you can select multiple editions to be removed from this combination set and joined in a new combination set, all as one step.

Also, hi and welcome! :)

Dan | 2 comments Ok, I did so using the "fancy" separate tool. However, it gave me some error.

But, In the combine editions tool, I can now see the editions that I separated out.

On the other hand, when I search for the books, the database does not seem to be updated yet. I figure it may take a little bit to update, so I'll be patient and try again later.

Cait (tigercait) | 4988 comments People have been getting intermittent errors all day -- there must be a server problem. :(

& yeah, it can take a little while for the search results to show up. One way to see the books is to click on the "N distinct works" link on the author page (right below the "combine editions" link) to see all of the author's books listed. That shouldn't have cache lag, and in fact sometimes prompts the cache to reset.
