The One
question
What if???

This one question has been bothering me for a while...
If the rebel attack hadn't happened during the official announcement of Maxon's engagement, would he still have married America? Before the official announcement but during the gathering, he had been ignoring America but intently talking to Kriss. He had even told America to be ready to leave. Was America's engagement to Maxon something that wouldn't have happened if not for the attack? Would Maxon have married Kriss???

That is a lingering question, which i guess only the author Kiera cass herself can answer. But i feel like their love is real and strong since maxon said this: "Break my heart. Break it a thousand times if you like. It was only ever yours to break anyway."
It's an interesting question and I agree with Liv. I think Maxon would have realized that he truly loves America and would have chosen her in the end regardless.
i think that by that point in the story and in their courting, he had decided that he really truly wanted America but at that time as well, there were so many circumstances that were happening that kept them apart. the letter from Aspen, the way that they were interacting, the way that his father felt about America. i think that it was inevitable that he was going to pick America - i think that there may have been a bit more relationship drama that would have happened before he chose her if the attack wouldn't have happened. think about it - they were destined from the beginning and while there was a decent second choice, maxon wouldn't have been happy i don't think (in the long run).
read the heir and see how happy they seem to be - so it was kismet.

I think he would've snapped when it came to give the announcement and married America...
Think about it. Would they have really made 3 whole books about her if she wasnt going to be the one?
I actually expected that all this story was lulling us into perception that America's going to be the One, when actually she is going to be kicked out by the king or prince and become the face of the rebels and the force that breaks down the monarchy and it's unfairness. And that's why there would be three books about her.
I think that as soon as the attack happened, he knew that when his life depended on it, America was the person he wanted to spend the rest of his life with. And if the attack hadn't happened, then at the wedding for him and Kriss, he wouldn't of been able to say "I Do." Then he would have had to go find America and ask her to marry him. So I think that no matter what the scenario was America and Maxon were meant for each other and would end up together one way or another.
Hmm... That is an occurring thought coming into my mind after reading The One. What would you do if Maxon married Kriss?!
