Anna 'Bookbuyer' (bookbuyer) | 22764 comments Well at least I should have one familiar face on the team. These challenges are good for meeting new people too. :)

Anna 'Bookbuyer' (bookbuyer) | 22764 comments So we are suppose to pick a number between 1-100 to get our puzzle and we should start planning our books to maximize our chances of finishing the puzzles.

I went ahead and checked what letters are the most common and here is the list:

E - 57
A - 43
R - 39
I - 38
O - 37
T - 35
N - 34
S - 29
L - 28
C - 23
U - 19
D - 17
P - 16
M - 15+
H - 15
G - 13
B - 11
F - 9+
Y - 9
W - 7
K - 6
V - 5
X - 1+
Z - 1+
J - 1+
Q - 1

^-^

Gayatri | 977 comments Letters are the most common for what?

Anna 'Bookbuyer' (bookbuyer) | 22764 comments In the alphabet. So the higher they are the more likely to show up in the puzzles.

I'm up for any number. We could also always just use a number generator. ^-^

Anna 'Bookbuyer' (bookbuyer) | 22764 comments So are you still pretty much only on on the weekend Jessica or are you more free since it's summer? If you are only on on the weekends we might have to go ahead as a group and pick our number for the puzzle without Max or maybe you could just suggest a number? What do you think Gayatri?

message 20: by Gayatri (new)

Gayatri | 977 comments I think we should pick a number :)
I say lets pick 20

Reading Rediscovered (readingrediscovered) | 876 comments I can be on more often now because it's summer.
20 sounds good to me!

message 24: by Anna 'Bookbuyer' (last edited Jul 26, 2015 01:42PM) (new)

Anna 'Bookbuyer' (bookbuyer) | 22764 comments So guys I just clarified with Abby since I wasn't sure and we there is only 1 number for everyone. So if say Team Topaz chooses 20 first then we can't use it for the entire game and after the puzzles run out we are stuck with quotes which will be harder. So we if we want to finish it the top three (which I do) then we need to plan as many buddy reads as possible. Read shorter books(?) and read quickly. ^-^

message 25: by Anna 'Bookbuyer' (new)

Anna 'Bookbuyer' (bookbuyer) | 22764 comments I got number 20 for us guys. I didn't know if we could till Max checked in (so I deleted my post asking for it.) but Abbie said as long as two of us are checked in and agree on a number we can choose. So we have #20 for round 1. ^-^

Anna 'Bookbuyer' (bookbuyer) | 22764 comments So I saw two possible BR for the 1st which will give me the letters:

1. C,M and bonus letter

2. (T?), S, K, C and bonus letter

Reading Rediscovered (readingrediscovered) | 876 comments Just thought I should let my team know - I very likely won't be doing any buddy reads for August. I had to pack all my books to move in July so I have one box I'm just going through.

What books do you have I might be able to do a BR or two with you depending on what you got. ^-^

There is a BR thread for Cinder if your interested. I'm planning to join in for that. Also there are threads for Scarlet, Cress, and Fairest this month as well.

It's good to know. Thanks. Sorry, just re-read how I came across. If I have the time to squeeze in the rest (and need to get the rest of the books lol) then I will join them. But reality is more likely for another month on the rest. I have over 10 buddy reads planned out plus a few others I might join, depending on how time goes.

I completely understand. I'm keeping my planned BR to as little as possible since I tend to burn out easily. But I'm keeping track of all the other ones I might try to join in on if I'm feeling up to joining them. Especially since we get that extra letter for every BR we do.

message 37: by Jamie (new)

Jamie | 12271 comments Just an idea, but for the title/quote guesses, even if we cannot make an official guess, we should share out guesses either here or pm so that those that can guess can use them if they are coming up blank. I think we all have different sub-genres we like to read so if it is one we don't read or see in our circles too often we might overlook it but someone else might see the letters and gaps and put it together.

That's a great idea. I mostly read Paranormal, Fantasy, Romance and some Sci-Fi. Not a big fan of Horror, Mystery or Contemporary so those will be my weak points.

Contemporary is my weakest. We could be in trouble, lol. We read the same kind of books. Although I do read horror and some mystery.
Hopefully Gayatri or Jessica can balance us out :)

Jessica does seems to read some Contemporary as well as classics so she might be able to help with those.

Gayatri also seems to read Contemporary as well as mystery and it seems most everything else! lol.

I think we are as good as we can get. :P

Well I own [bookcover:Talker 25|17339959] Mark of the Thief (Mark of the Thief, #1) by Jennifer A. Nielsen

And potentially I could get Inferno and Illusion. So if I find time and you are ready to read them as well we could BR those together.

message 43: by Jamie (new)

Jamie | 12271 comments Well, after checking my library account looks like I'll be stepping up a book. The Zookeeper's Wife A War Story by Diane Ackerman is due this weekend, so I guess that will be my first book.

message 44: by Jamie (new)

Jamie | 12271 comments Got a bit of clarification from Abbie on how guessing the title (and later quotes) will go. So anyone can guess the book on the review thread. If I read a book and pick a letter, if one of you think you know the book, you can be the one to make a guess. We can also stockpile guesses. So if we don't have enough to make a good guess, we can save it for later.
So if we read 3 books but have not tried to guess the title, we have 3 guesses any us can make later in the game.
So if you are confident in what the book is, call it out on the review thread and pick a new number asap to keep this going. But if in doubt I still think we should share possibilites here. That way we can discuss what letters are best to guess at to narrow down the field. And checking this thread regularly will be huge.

Those are my thoughts at least on it :)

KK. I'm on pretty near 24/7 except when I'm sleeping so I'll be on a lot to check the threads. I can also try and do research when we get a letter or two of the book so we can narrow it down and have a better chance of guessing right. ^-^

message 46: by Jamie (new)

Jamie | 12271 comments @Jessica, I MIGHT be able to read Talker 25 with you as a buddy read, but it will have to be late in the month if I do. Not sure yet, but if you read the ones we can't join you on first, hopefully at least one of us can join you on a book or two later in the month :)

Reading Rediscovered (readingrediscovered) | 876 comments Let's read Talker 25 (Talker 25, #1) by Joshua McCune starting on the 20th? That way there's still time left in the month to finish and not feel rushed.
I could start Mark of the Thief (Mark of the Thief, #1) by Jennifer A. Nielsen right on the 1st.
