Parade's End question

People are so divided about the last volume, "Last Post." Here's a thought: thinking about it, I (mentally) heard this:
"My dear, have you HEARD? Sylvia Tietjens actually invaded her estranged husband's home last week. She made his poor pregnant mistress faint...and after her interview with Mark Tietjens, he died! I really, really my dear, don't think we should have her here any more."
