DHASG August Challenge

Introduction: Summer break is almost over. We're entering the hottest part of the summer and people are wrapping up their summer vacations. Some of us want to squeeze in the last bit of summer reading we can. Let's see what August holds for us bookwise!

Rules:

1. Any member of the DHSAG can sign up for the challenge throughout the month of August.
2. All books must be read between August 1st and August 31st.
3. A book may only be used once in the challenge.
4. Post or link to your final stats when you are completed.
5. In your stats, list book name, title and date read. Unless obvious, include why you choose a certain book in parenthesis in your stats.

Level:

1. Beach Vacation Over: 9-14 books.
2. Summer Camp: Read 5-8 books.
3. Back to School: Read 3-4 books.

Categories
:

1.Simplify Your Life: I kid you not. Week 1 of August is designated as National Simplify Your Life week. To celebrate, read a book that's been on your to be read pile, or finish off a series that you've been reading a long time.
2.Friendship Day: The first Sunday in August is the day to celebrate friendship. Read a book with a very strong friendship at its center.
3.Sister's Day: The first Sunday in August is also Sister's Day. Read a book that features a prominent sister relationship.
4.Be Kind!: Week 4 of August is Be Kind to Humankind week. Read a book with a character who demonstrates kindness in action.
5.Work Like a Dog: August 4th is the day to celebrate people who work really hard, aka 'like a dog'. You can choose a book with a hardworking character or a book with a prominent canine character.
6.Wiggle Your Toes!: August 6th is the day to stretch out those little digits on your feet. Typically this is done by the pool or on the beach. So read a book with a beach/pool/island setting.
7.Lazy Day: August 10th gives us an excuse to be lazy. Besides, it's too hot to do anything else! Take them up on it and take a day and do nothing but read. Any book you read on August 10th will count.
8.Bad Poetry Day: To celebrate this day on August 18th, read a book with a title that seems like it would be the name of a bad poem (no offense to the author intended).
9.Middle Child Syndrome: It is a thing, or else they wouldn't celebrate it on August 12th. Middle children tend to be introverted, quiet and loners. Dare I say a huge inner life? Read a book with a main character who is a middle child or who truly exhibits the traits of a middle child.
10.National Thriftshop Day; August 17th is the day for celebrating thriftshops. Read a book with a lead character who is into thrifting/vintage/recycling, or runs a thriftshop/spends a lot of time going to thriftshops. You could even read a book that has a premise set around thriftshops.
11.Kiss and Make Up!: August 25th is the day to make up with a loved one you're not getting along with. Read a book with a well-done make up/forgiveness/grovelling and forgiven scene.
12.Ride the Wind: For August 23rd, Ride the Wind Day, Go with the flow and enjoy the breezes. Do this literally by reading a book that involves some sort of air travel or air sports, or read a book that celebrates hanging out and enjoying the summer breeze (not so much an option here in Texas right now, since it feels like a furnace, but oh well!).
13.Just Because Day: August 27th is about doing something on a whim or as a "what if", just because (probably out of your comfort zone or you've been working your courage up to do it). Read a book where a lead character does something "just because."
14.Be Someone's Angel: August 22nd is the day to be someone's Angel sent from God. This day is traditionally meant to 'be God's servant in doing kindness for others.' You can celebrate this day by reading a book with a real or figurative angel character.
