message 252: by Vicky (last edited Aug 15, 2015 12:48PM) (new)

Vicky (librovert) | 3137 comments We have about 4.5 hours left until the end of Round 1. I wanted to toss out a reminder that our unfulfilled goals roll over into the next round (though our books read during the first round can no longer be used for them), so even though you might not finish it in time for the end of the round, you can still look for books that would fit. :) So a goal update:

Read a book with a book on the cover - I'll be done The Book of Speculation either tomorrow or Monday, I am loving it so far!

Read a book with a single body part on the cover - I'm hoping the mods will accept Zer0es for this, but we may want some backups just in case.

Read a book first published on the 1st of a month - We'll need something for this. You can use "01," to search, but make sure to double check the publication date.

Also, I just found a neat tool for publication dates! FictFact's Book Release Calendar. It only lists books in a series since that hat FictFact focuses on, but it's still a much easier way to search!

Over the next two weeks I need to read Blood Song, Tower Lord, Queen of Fire. Hopefully there will be some good goals for them. :)

message 253: by Apoorv (new)

Apoorv Moghe (goodreadscomapoorv) | 1267 comments This sucks so bad !
So, the Mods agreed and I was able to use Zer0es for our body part goal.

The new goal that popped up was Read a book with 31-40 chapters and I was able to use Unbroken for that.

So, now the new goal that came up was Read a book that is in the Amazon 2010 bestsellers (http://www.amazon.com/gp/bestsellers/...) and Unbroken is on that list.

I am like Grrrrr... :X

I did check all the other uncovered books, but I am wrong, please let me know and I can hopefully make some amends and get another goal in.

message 254: by Apoorv (new)

Apoorv Moghe (goodreadscomapoorv) | 1267 comments Also, if we cant use the books read in this round towards the next, would it be smart to complete our currently-reading books that dont fit any goal as of now, tomorrow so that they can be used for something ?

message 255: by Sara (new)

Sara | 1294 comments Thanks for the recap and tool for publication dates, Vicky!
I really don't want to seem like a goal horder, but I've just noticed that there's actually a book on the cover of Winesburg, Ohio's edition I read. Do you guys (and especially Vicky) think that we could use it or do you prefer to keep things as they are? Just saying as I noticed it and wanted you to feel free to decide what's best.
And Vicky, I really do not want to step on your toes!

Glad that we used Unbroken as well, but too bad that it was good for next goal too since it is in the Amazon 2010 bestsellers :/

About an hour left to the end of Round 1, teamies! :)

message 256: by Apoorv (new)

Apoorv Moghe (goodreadscomapoorv) | 1267 comments Vicky is probably going to be out for the evening, so not sure if she would see this before the end of the round.

Since we cannot use any Round 1 books into Round 2 (right?) I really do want to use Winesburg, Ohio for the goal, since Vicky would be finishing with her book after the start of Round 2.. hopefully we can get a few more goals taken care of.

I hope Vicky would be okay with it.

message 257: by Sara (new)

Sara | 1294 comments Apoorv wrote: "hopefully we can get a few more goals taken care of."

That's specifically what I was thinking Apoorv. It would be good to get a few more goals covered before the end of this first round. But I really hope Vicky would be fine with that too!

message 258: by Kate S (new)

Kate S | 1998 comments I am sure Vicky will be fine with it. I think using the maximum number of books possible from Round 1 is key.

message 259: by Apoorv (new)

Apoorv Moghe (goodreadscomapoorv) | 1267 comments I actually did go ahead and used the book for that goal (sorry, Vicky :-() and the new goal is Read a book with the phrase "gut feeling" in a book.

I am checking through the un-used books so far to no luck.. but let me know if you guys remember reading that phrase in your respective books.

I wonder if the Mods would allow 'feeling in the stomach' for this. I found that in Emerald Atlas, I guess.

Apoorv Moghe (goodreadscomapoorv) | 1267 comments Assuming things dont change drastically in the next 10 minutes, we would most likely be paired with Team Gannicus.

message 261: by Vicky (new)

Vicky (librovert) | 3137 comments Thanks for taking care of goals tonight, Apoorv! Definitely not a problem to use the other book, I would have done the same. I thought I checked covers, but I must have missed it!

I just got in for the night and I could have passed out 3 hours ago, so I'm off to sleep and will check in again tomorrow morning!

message 262: by Dragana (last edited Aug 15, 2015 11:30PM) (new)

Dragana (diaryofthebookdragon) I think we did a great job and I had a lot of fun.

I searched my Kindle and 'gut feeling' in not mentioned in any of the books I own. :(
But I do have a couple of books that are published on the 1st so I could take care of that goal.

Apoorv Moghe (goodreadscomapoorv) | 1267 comments Kate, it says that the book was first published on the 8th of January :(

message 285: by Kate S (new)

Kate S | 1998 comments Where? For my own information, it would be good to see what I have missed.

message 286: by Apoorv (new)

Apoorv Moghe (goodreadscomapoorv) | 1267 comments If you open the book page, the line where it is says published on blah blah, talking about the edition you are reading, the first published date is in the parenthesis next to it.

message 287: by Kate S (new)

Kate S | 1998 comments I only saw January 1 when I originally looked at it, so I sought out more information as the first is not usually reliable. Interesting that they originally released this book on a Thursday, I thought Tuesday was the traditional drop dates for books.

I'm sure we can find something else.

message 288: by Apoorv (new)

Apoorv Moghe (goodreadscomapoorv) | 1267 comments Okay, GoodReads probably has the wrong info.
I checked some other websites and they do say that Saint Odd was published on the 13th of January this year.

So I guess we are okay.

message 289: by Kate S (new)

Kate S | 1998 comments Thank you for checking into this Apoorv. I am sure you have better things to do on your Sunday afternoon than tracking down the publication date of a book I would have read (and enjoyed) anyhow. Thank you very much for your tenacity in this situation!!

message 290: by Vicky (new)

Vicky (librovert) | 3137 comments Yeah, I also think it's fine. I think Amazon has some erroneous information that got imported, as everywhere else lists it at the 13th. I updated the GR record.
