Lisa (lisadannatt) | 184 comments August group read from Sci Fi/ fantasy

Leslie | 904 comments I read this last year so I won't be rereading. I thought it was thought-provoking and well-written so I look forward to hearing what others think about it.

Phil (lanark) | 634 comments It's a really good book. I've read it several times, so won't be reading it again this time. I especially enjoy the calm matter if fact way that all events happen. it's not Wyndham's best book (that's either The Midwich Cuckoos or The Chrysalids) but it's still an excellent read and fully deserves its position on the list.

message 7: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) I heard once that John Wyndham is considered the father of ecological disaster fiction

Leslie | 904 comments Would this count as "ecological disaster" fiction? I viewed it more as an alien invasion!

message 9: by Kim (new) - rated it 4 stars

Kim Williamson | 4 comments Ok loved it! But was anyone else flashing to "Feed Me Seymour". With all the doomsday conspiracy theorists out there did anyone else start to think about what beliefs they would or could sacrifice to ensure the survival of their family?

message 10: by Phil (new) - rated it 4 stars

Phil (lanark) | 634 comments Actually Leslie it's not an alien invasion at all.

(view spoiler)

That whole coincidental happening is one of the things that makes the book so darn good.

message 11: by Bron (new) - rated it 4 stars

Bron (bron23) | 30 comments I have just finished reading and I loved this book. I thought it was very entertaining and raises plenty of questions as Kim raised about what would you do to survive? etc.

What I also didn't know until now that John Wyndham also wrote Chocky. As I child I watched the TV show of the same name (adapted from the book) and loved it.

I will certainly be reading more of Wyndham's books in the future!
