List your top 5 books that you re-read a lot

message 2: by Tommy (new)

Tommy Hancock (tommyhancock) | 440 comments I very, VERY rarely re-read. my logic being there's already more books that I want to read than I'll realistically have time to read in my lifetime and the list will only grow more and more as time passes haha.

I have re-read on occasion though.

1. Harry Potter series
2. Invincible(comic)
3. Scott Pilgrim(comic)
4. Goosebumps(more as a kid, but still)
5. Stinky Cheese Man and other Fairly Stupid Tales

message 3: by Ashley Marie (new)

Ashley Marie 1. HP Prisoner of Azkaban
2. HP Order of the Phoenix
3. HP Sorcerer's Stone
4. HP Deathly Hallows
5. uhm... well I'm currently rereading Hunger Games right now, so I suppose it counts. I don't often reread books anymore, but HP is my go-to comfort food/book thing. I have a lot of books I WANT to reread right now, but I haven't gotten to them yet lol.

I understand this logic completely. But my fave books are like old friends, and I have to "visit" with them every so often LOL

I know, that really makes me sound like a nerd :P

As I totally understand your logic. Makes complete sense. It's not a case of one right, one wrong, just different strokes is all :)

Jenny (juliababyjen) | 1572 comments Exactly :) Rereading is one of those things--either you do it or you don't.

message 8: by Kaylani (last edited Aug 02, 2015 10:27PM) (new)

Kaylani (cityeclectics) | 277 comments I only re-read certain books.
Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson
Just Checking
The Happiness Trap by Russ Harris (will be re-read)
Shakespeares plays
Dr. Seuss Books
The Outsiders
The House on Mango Street
Books by Ray Bradbury or Kurt Vonnegut
charlotte's Web
Where the Wild Things Are
Tuesday's With Morrie
The Velveteen Rabbit
Winnie the Pooh
Grimm's Fairy Tales
Anything by Edgar Allen Poe
Samantha, Felicity and Addy american girl books

are the only things I've re-read for the sake of re-reading them and not because it had been so long I didn't remember them very well

They generally have to be read at a certain points in my life or be pivotal in some way for me to re-read them

message 9: by Ashley Marie (new)

Ashley Marie ooooh Jenny I totally forgot about the Laura Ingalls Wilder books! Little House in the Big Woods is my absolute favorite! And Little House on Rocky Ridge <3

Tommy and Ashley I was a huge re-reader when I was young. I re-read Harriet the Spy and Tales of the Fourth Grade Nothing like 100 times but I find as I age I re-read less because there are more books I still want to read. If I was a fast reader it would be a different story but I am one of those readers who really feels like I need to read nearly every word and comprehend it so it takes me longer. I can not skip multiple words like I know a lot of people do. I wish I could because I have a lot of unread books on my kindle!!

Jenny I really want to re-read the Laura Ingalls Wilder books. I re-read them several times when I was in grade school. I think it would be nice to revisit them now that I am older.

message 13: by Ashley Marie (new)

Ashley Marie I've joined a Harry Potter reread starting in January, and then after that's done I think I'm gonna leave them sit for awhile. There are so many books to read!!! haha

Harry Potter is one of the only series I have re-read over and over as an adult - mostly because I have actually re-listened to them on audio because I love that series on audio

message 15: by Kaylani (new)

Kaylani (cityeclectics) | 277 comments I've actually not finished the Harry Potter series yet. I grew up in a cult like fundamentalist background and Harry Potter and many other books were deemed evil and horrid and were banned from being brought to my church and my household and so it took me a long time once I found my way outside the cultish atmosphere to start them. I've read the first three and love them. Plan on reading 4/5 this year and 6/7 next year.

That is so sad Kaylani because Harry Potter actually has wonderful messages about being yourself, friendship, loyalty, etc...

Agreed!

Several friends and are a doing a HP reading marathon starting in September, reading 2 books a month. For some, its their first time reading this! For others, its rereads.

If anyone is interested, its on Instagram and Twitter with the hashtag #littlebookwolshpreadalong starts Sept 1st

I don't actually re-read books, except HP 1-4. I would occasionally re-skim books just to refresh my memory if I'm reading a sequel. Lately though, I've been having sudden urges to re-read a lot of books. Mainly...

1. Gregor the Overlander by Susanne Collins
2. The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
3. Percy Jackson by Rick Riordan
4. Agatha Christie's Poirot
5. Kingdom Keepers by Ridley Pearson

message 19: by Karen’s Library (last edited Aug 05, 2015 10:53PM) (new)

Karen’s Library | 574 comments I'm a chronic rereader! Especially if a book becomes a movie. I just reread the Divergent series.

Before I got my first ereader and discovered click to buy, I'd reread entire series off my shelves over and over and over.

Here are my most read "series". Most are older books.

1) Dragonriders of Pern
2) Dune
3) Mists of Avalon
4) Darkover

I literally destroyed the first books of each of those series.

Newer rereads:
1) Twilight series (yes, they're what got me hooked on YA)
2) Hunger Games
3) Harry Potter
4) The Book Thief
5) The Martian

I stopped rereading Twilight and The Hunger Games, finally. ;)

I really want to re-read the Hunger Games, but I lost my copies of it. Argh! I'm going to wait around Christmas time when they have special box sets on sale.

I haven't reread Twilight in quite awhile, and I'm kind of in the mood for it LOL!

I literally have destroyed many books rereading them too...I'm on my 4th paperback copy of Gone With the Wind. The first time I read it was in 8th grade, my mom bought it for me for Christmas. I also destroyed all my Little House books, I got the paperbacks when I was 7 or 8. I have hardback copies of them now, but a few are already starting to look sad! Same with my HP books :(

As I said earlier I don't re-read the books but here are books I have read at least 2-3 times.

1. Any and all of the Harry Potter series. I discover new things each time I re-read these books. I know a lot of people say Twilight was the reason they returned to a love of reading or why they started reading YA as adults but Harry Potter was this for me. I hadn't been reading much when I watched the first movie and liked it well enough to try the first book. I am so glad I did.

2. Anne of Green Gables. I loaned the movies to this series to my friend when she had surgery and she was hooked so we are now planning a trip to PEI where the series takes place. So excited since I have been a life long fan. Anne is my hero.

3. Pride & Prejudice

4. On the Jellicoe Road - one of my top 10 favorite books and the reason I fell in love with Melina Marchetta.

5. Chaos Walking series - no explanation necessary

Honorable mention to the Georgia Nicholson series (Angus Thongs and Full Frontal Snogging) - I could listen to this series on audio over and over

I don't reread at all either, but if 2 years has passed from any given date, you can bet money I've reread the Harry Potter series at least once during that time haha.

message 24: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (juliababyjen) | 1572 comments Heidi, you said it well...I always catch little things while rereading HP too! Those books are so well written, and have so much depth. They are very arguably the best books of our time!

message 25: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 6961 comments Mod
Agreed Jenny!

message 26: by Kaylani (new)

Kaylani (cityeclectics) | 277 comments Now that I've started reading them I will never understand why they were so 'horrible'. I don't think any of the adults banning them actually read them!

That said, I could have sat and read all 7 back to back but I wanted to take time to absorb them.

I didn't think I was a big re-reader until I thinking about my re-reads. I re-read classics a lot. Classics I read when I was like 6-10 years old and didn't fully understand them. As I grow and change it is amazing at how they change as well.

I had read the entirity of Edgar Allen Poe, Shakespeare and Jane Austen by the time I was 8. And by 10 I had completed everything by Kurt Vonnegut, Ray Bradbury, George Orwell, and Arthur Miller as well. But I really didn't comprehend much out of them taking everything super literal when I was that age.

message 27: by Joan (new)

Joan Walker | 10 comments The Fault in Our Stars
The Princess Bride
Dark Confessions of an Extraordinary, Ordinary Woman
Eat, Pray, Love
The Chronicles of Narnia

I've read all of them at least 2x. I actually read Dark Confessions twice in the same week. Learn something new each time.

Love the Princess Bride. Rob Reiner (the movie director) narrates the audiobook and it is good fun.
