Obskura3 | 9 comments Hi. I'm looking for books that fit in the same category as prometheus (same type of story). Preferably a series. Thanks!

You mean the movie Prometheus (2012) ?

Rendezvous with Rama (Rama, #1) by Arthur C. Clarke Earthlings find alien spaceship and explore: Rendezvous with Rama by Arthur C Clarke. Rama does have several sequels, but unfortunately they aren't very good.

Ringworld (Ringworld, #1) by Larry Niven Earthlings find alien habitat and explore: Ringworld by Larry Niven. Has a few sequels, and takes place in the author's "known space" universe.

Am I on the right track for the kind of thing your interested in?

V.W. Singer | 253 comments David Weber's Empire From the Ashes series.

James P Hogan's Inherit the Stars and the other two books of the "Giant" series.

James White's All Judgment Fled - old but very "Aliens" in atmosphere. Here's a pic of the original Corgi cover:

A couple of other recent books that might meet your criteria occurred to me. Both of these books use the old sci-fi trope of independent asteroid belt miners, though in both cases the plot revolves around discovering an alien artifact floating around out in space (which I suppose is something like Clarke's 2001)

Leviathan Wakes (Expanse, #1) by James S.A. Corey Leviathan Wakes by James S.A. Corey
The story begins a series of novels known as the Expanse series, and mentioning it in the context of alien artifact stories is a minor spoiler to the first book (Leviathan Wakes). Since the artifact is small here, most of the story involves its effect on human outposts in the outer solar system, and it concentrates a good deal on the political rivalries between Earth, the independent human settlements on Mars, and those cantankerous "belters". (This is a little closer to the "Aliens" horror-ish scifi.) The series is 4 books so far, and isn't complete yet.)

Pushing Ice by Alastair Reynolds Pushing Ice by Alastair Reynolds
This story follows the crew of an ice mining ship that becomes first to investigate a large alien something-or-other. Although it has a good deal of sci-fi, it spends a great deal of time on the interpersonal and political relationships between the members of the crew.
