So like some others, I own The Help and plan to read it soon, but have not yet. So, if people start chatting about it here it will light a fire under me to start reading it! Gotta trick myself into devoting EVEN MORE time into reading! ;)

Marika | 187 comments I loved both the book and the movie. I saw the movie first and loved it immediately. I found out it was a book and once I got around to it, I was SO grateful that I did! I found the book to be slightly darker and more serious than the movie. I mean the movie was serious enough, but the book seemed to emphasize how dangerous the acitivites were in a more realistic way. I don't have a problem with the movie, its just something I noticed.

Teri North | 2 comments Saw the movie first and loved it. Then listened to the audio book a year or so later and it was absolutely incredible! One of the top books I have ever read!

message 7: by Sam (new)

Sam | 606 comments Do you get a lot of audio books? I think I've listened to one before which I enjoyed but love reading too much. Was the voice reading the book to you good?

message 8: by Δ|вσω (new)

Δ|вσω Loved this movie and I am going to read the book.

Kyara | 158 comments I finally just watched the movie the other day (slightly late, I know!) and I absolutely loved it! It made me so emotional and I just thought it was such a fantastic movie. Because I loved it so much, I actually went out and purchased the book the following day! Once I finish the books I'm currently reading, The Help is definitely going to be my next one.

Glad you liked it!! I am still WAY behind.. I own the book, but have not read it nor have I watch the movie... Need to get on that SOON!!

message 11: by Kyara (new)

Kyara | 158 comments I myself can't comment on the book but you definitely need to watch the movie! Which is seemingly an easier task than reading a book haha. It was sooooooo good!

My friend is having a grad party this weekend and he lives close to the theater. I am hoping when it over I can kidnap him and our other friend that wants to see it and finally watch it! I have been freaking out for a a few months about it, more so after reading it!!!!

Aimee | 29 comments After a long wait i'm finally reading this. So far so good. To anyone who's read it will i be disappointed with the movie when it's finished or is it a good book to movie translation?

message 16: by Kyara (new)

Kyara | 158 comments I also finally started reading this today as well, I'm only 50 pages in though so I can't really comment yet. But I loved the movie so my expectations are set quite high!

I really need to read this still! Maybe I will start it this week as a change of pace from the other books I am reading!

Kyara | 158 comments A change of pace is always lovely, it's also nice to mix things up a little bit!

Rachel I finally finished reading the book. I gave it 5 out of 5 stars.

I have to admit I saw the movie before I read the book, but I feel reading the book after seeing the movie made me apperciate it a whole lot more. This book had to be brought to life because some of the heartwarming and hysterical scenes along with it's memorable quotes hits you. Although it is a work of fiction, it is eye opening that it wasn't that long ago America was like this down in the South. It makes you apperciate all the changes that have happened since the 1960s. Just like in the movie, I adored Aibileen, but Minny was my favorite character in the book. Kathryn Stockett did a wonderful job with the narrative for each of the main 3 characters. It brought wonderful perspectives to the story. Now, I know why everyone was raving about this book. It is a wonderful read that I couldn't put down. To end, remember " You is kind. You is smart. You is important."

Loved both the book and the movie. I liked how closely they stuck together!

Angela (angela68) | 2 comments I adored the book and think that they did an amazing job with the movie.

message 22: by Claudia (new)

Claudia (clawjah) The film was on TV in UK on new years eve 2014. Very impressed at how faithful it was to the book. Great adaptation.

message 23: by Nikki (new)

Nikki Day (nikkiday) I recently just read the book and watched the movie a couple of days later. Although I thought it was a great adaption, I was sad there was some main things left out. I know it's hard when it's a fairly long book, but there wasn't really much about Skeeter's relationship with Stuart. And I really would have liked to have seen them put in the part where Minny and Celia fight the naked man. I think that was an important part of the book that cemented the relationship between the two of them.

Other than a few missing things, I thought the casting and acting was great and they stayed as true to the book as they could in the time frame. Also loved the pie scene!

Cheryl (cawils_99) This was one of the few books where the movie was just as good or better in some ways than the book. I love Emma Stone and the rest of the cast did an excellent job in my mind making this movie exactly what I wanted to see. I wish more movies did it right like this one.

Carley | 1 comments This is probably one of those times where I loved the movie more. I saw the film first and loved it. I really liked Octavia Spencer and Emma Stone. I found out there was a book and bought it (used of course). I thought the book was a little bit long. From what I recall it tended to drag s little.

I am so excited! The Help is coming on TV in about 9 minutes, so I can finally watch it! I can't wait to see how it holds up to the book. :)

Okay....the movie is amazing!!! I missed a few minute of it when I needed to go help the guest group stay at camp, but it was so great! I feel like the only little thing missing in this was that it did not look like Skeeter was in the same danger in the movie as she was in the book. In the book it was almost scary to see how close she came to really being in trouble for visiting the women in the black neighborhood. I really loved the book, and honestly liked the movie just as much! A great job for sure!!!
