Sam | 606 comments I saw the movie and it made me cry... beautifully put together! wonderful story so of course on my to read list :)

Marika | 187 comments The movie was gorgeous. While it obviously didn't have all the details of the book, I don't remember being really angry about anything. They did add more storyline to the beginning and a little love story that came out of nowhere...but whatever...The book was awesome.

Jasmina I personally think it's worth seeing the movie. Surely, there were slight differences, but the movie was extremely well done.

Cate (The Professional Fangirl) (chaostheory08) | 458 comments THIS IS AN AMAZING BOOK. THIS IS AN AMAZING MOVIE.

Princess7v | 11 comments I found the movie really great but the book not so I'll give it another try. Btw I watched the movie first because I didn't know it was a book until after I saw the movie.

Cate (The Professional Fangirl) (chaostheory08) | 458 comments I cut it so close with this. I finished reading the book the morning of the day I watched it.

I still need to see the movie, but the book for sure was a little annoying to me in the beginning. I liked it once they were on the boat and everything really got moving. Some of the stuff in the beginning was fine, but for the most part it was slow and to me a little unneeded....

message 9: by Marika (new)

Marika | 187 comments Well I though the beginning was interesting because he so passionately argued that zoo's are better for animals than the wild...and it was such a good argument...it was interesting to me, lol. I mean I agree that it felt a little slow and I was eagerly waiting for the shipwreck (is there something wrong with me?!)but I think it established his love for and history/knowledge with animals. But the movie spends a good portion of him in India and they even add a little love story that wasn't in the book (kind of annoying....)

Yeah, I liked the in the beginning the part where his dad takes him from cage to cage and tells him why and how each animal is dangerous. Also, hearing the background on Richard Parker was good! Oh, and I was for sure eager for the boat crash too...so if it means there is something wrong with you, it's wrong with me too!! ;)

LOVE STORY??!?! NO!!!!!! Why does every movie THINK they need a love story for it be worth watching!??!?! UGH!!!! Well...I might try to watch the movie today if I have time with all my other movies planned! :D

Marika | 187 comments haha, yeah I totally agree in your frustration. It's SOO stupid. I think there's a quote on the movie that calls it a "visual feast" and I think that perfectly describes it. It had some really beautiful moments.

I cannot being to describe the range of emotions I went through while watching that movie! It was beautiful, scary, and exciting at some points, while funny, sad, and inspiring at others! They did an almost FLAWLESS job making this wonderful book into a movie! I only wish I could have seen it on the big screen! I cannot imagine what it would have been like to see the bio-luminescence scene in theaters! Also, I am glad they had the part in there where Pi was interviewed by the two men about the ship. It was both my favorite and least favorite part of the book for so many reasons, and I think they did a great job of putting it in there! All around I am in love with this movie, and so glad they did the book justice! Makes me really want to re-read the book, or at least re-watch the movie since they were both perfection!

Sam | 606 comments I saw this when it was out in cinemas and I thought it was beautifully done. Haven't read the book but I will. Glad u watched it and good to hear they did a good job of converting the book on the big screen :)

Yeah it was so beautiful :) How do you perceive the ending? I think, because Pi never clarifies which story is "true" he only offers an alternate story because they won't beleive him and then asks the people which story they like best without saying for sure which one happened...I firmly believe that both Pi and the author are giving the audience the choice to pick which version they want to believe and you can either go with the fantastical story with the "happier" ending that requires faith, or the more disturbing, but "more realistic" story that requires no faith...Personally I choose the original, fantastical story that requires faith (and since its a work of fiction I'm allowed to believe what I want to, haha) I'm curious how others perceived the ending.

I agree. I think you get the pick the ending you want, much like he had the man visiting him do. I also pick the more happy ending, but I wonder how people without a faith base or people who are more pessimistic by nature would choose....

I think a little part of me believes the more tragic ending, but I can't let it be true in way, because it is just too sad! Pi went through enough with the boat sinking and loosing his family, I don't want him to have gone through everything with the cook as well...

message 16: by Marika (new)

Marika | 187 comments yeah the more tragic ending is just disturbing...I have talked to Christians who think that the end was a "twist" and they think none of the movie happened and that the tragic ending is reality....just...strange...considering they are christians that choose the story "without God" I mean its cool...its a work of fiction and everyone is totally entitled to their own opinion :)

Cate (The Professional Fangirl) (chaostheory08) | 458 comments My mom and I rewatch it every time we see it on TV lol.

I just can't imagine what Pi went through. He didn't really have enough time to grieve for his family and then he had to keep the mind to survive.

I loved this book, and it has a permanent spot on my Keepers Shelf! I thought the twist at the end was fantastic, and my family and I have debated over it many times. I haven't gotten around to seeing the movie yet, but I am a little worried at how they will handle the ending....

The did the ending wonderfully in my opinion. It was one of the moments I was also worried about when I finally watched the movie too. They made it look so beautiful on screen! I only wish I had seen it in theaters!
