As far as other rescues. My two dogs I have now came from the animal shelter. They are both great dogs with different personalities.
We found a fawn alone in the woods one time where the mother had been shot by someone. Took it home and bottle fed it. After it got so big, we had the game commission come and take it someplace where it would be a sanctuary for animals where it wouldn't get killed.

Here is the link to two ELEPHANT RESCUE VIDEOS
1) Pamper a pachyderm
www.youtube.com
Meet Muoy... , the owner of an elephant camp near Elephant Nature Park. After spending with at Elephant Nature Park and learning about the sanctuary's appeal...
Pamper a pachyderm... Nearly all the elephants in this scheme and at Elephant Nature Park nr Chiangmai are rescued from trekking camps, illegal logging, begging, and shows. Most of these uses, exploit them and involve real cruelty and neglect of the elephants' needs. At Elephant Nature Park and Pamper a Pachyderm, they are not ridden or worked or made to perform. They follow as natural life as possible.
2) A moving video story on the work of the park and across Thailand. helping elephants, is at:

WARNING>>>There are scenes of cruelty to elephants shown in the Elephant News Video on the work of the Elephant Nature Park. But the video on Pamper a Pachyderm depicts no cruelty. Elephant Nature Park also run a wonderful rescue dog sanctuary at the same site. Many of the rescue dogs are friendly with the elephants, and they walk and swim together.
