Sumner B Period discussion

In chapter 7, Unhappy Ending, Rosalie, Edward's sister, has a talk with Bella about deciding to become a vampire. Rosalie was always unfriendly and cold toward Bella, but this is the chapter when we figure out what is behind her attitude. Rosalie advises Bella to not be too, "'rash about permanent things'" (167). This seems to be all that Bella has done throughout the series. She makes spur of the moment decisions without taking into account what they mean for her future. The only thing she has on her mind is Edward, nothing else. At least she is committed. The advice that Rosalie gave can be applied to my life. I am sure it applies to many other teenagers' lives. This one quote made me realize how many lessons are hidden in the Twilight Saga, especially lessons for young adults. They do not make it the focus, so we do not feel like we are being preached at, yet we are still influenced by the messages Meyer conveys. Rosalie's advice is quite ironic, at the same time, because Bella is not being rash about marrying Edward, but she is being rash about choosing to be a vampire which is literally a forever lasting decision.
