I just reviewed This Is Not an Accident: Stories from a review copy that was sent by the publisher outside of Goodreads. I read it, loved it and posted a review.
Of course I looked at other reviews for the book and I was surprised to see that there were several one star and two star reviews, nearly all from Goodreads Giveaway winners.
I know that I've gone crazy on the Goodreads giveaways, looking more at the odds of winning (50 copies and 80 entrants--I might win that one) rather than if the book is something I actually want to read. For example, my preference is for hard boiled thrillers, so I'm probably not going to care much for an Amish romance.
Has anyone had a Goodreads giveaway backfire on them? I feel really bad for the author, as her publisher was trying to help her sell books and instead she got trashed.
