Yea!! I am soo Excited to get thoughts of you guys on this book...

The logic behind this one is great.. and to say it is out of the box is understatement, because well in Flatland there are no boxes.. :D

aPriL does feral sometimes (cheshirescratch) Started this today....

: )

LOVE the video! Thank you, Soul!

aPriL does feral sometimes (cheshirescratch) Any ideas on how triangles mate in two dimensions? Or squares? Or circles?

:) it's my pleasure April *_^

and as for the mating, I guess nature just finds it's way to do things but still you can imagine some line extra here and not there... and voila, the mating... :p

:D

Abbot seems like a great guy. He developed kind of a proto-Sim City game. The book is not just about math. I think he would be amazed we STILL have the same social issues he was messing around with, but I think he'd be pleased women have access to more education. However, Abbott - what a major NERD! Some things don't seem to change. Victorian NERDS! Who knew?

The principles of shapes defining class and personalities is very funny. I've been thinking about what shape I'd be if I had a choice of not being a line. Not that being a line would be awful or anything, but today's female symbol is circles, at least in necklaces. I think I'd like to be a triangle, instead. It feels right. ; )

aPriL does feral sometimes (cheshirescratch) Finished it! Well worth the effort. It's bigger on the inside, in all dimensions.

; D

I liked the concept too.. I mean not just the story and logic of mixing 2D world with 3D one but also the way Abbot carried the message of Social structure n all...

it surely is Bigger on the inside in all dimensions..

Mathew Smith Funny, what motivated me to read Flatland was the mention of it on The Big Bang Theory. Anyone remember that episode? Sheldon comments, 'look, there is a sexually attractive line segment' and something like, 'the gals go crazy for circles'.
After reading the book I finally get the jokes.

Didn't see that show, but these jokes are very funny!
