Karen (imperfect1989) | 1 comments WOW, soo this book was soo good, The ended was a bit dissapointed and i expected a little more (cant think of a better word)panic, excitment i wanted the whole, "on the edge on my bed" feeling, but i didnt get that in the joust.
It worked up to this end game and i thought it was too obvious that Heather was going to win it, that was obvious from the start. But.... when Nat had showed her the Keys she had taken from Dodge, i though, sh*t is she really going to kill this charactor off right at the end, that would have been a great twist.
I thought the tiger at the end of the games and the last 2 pages was very cheesy from the rest of the book.
I am glad in the end that her and Bishop got together, i thought Heather was being very stubborn when it came to Bishop.
I didnt think Nat and Dodge would be together but they did.
I adored Lily.

this was my first Lauren Oliver Book and I really enjoyed!

x

Hillary (noodlez88) | 13 comments The end was okay. To be honest I though it would be a little more epic than it was. Overall, I thought the books was good! A perfect read to get out of my slump!

message 53: by Andrea (new)

Andrea Moreno | 1 comments I shipped Heather and Bishop a little too hard... I loved the book so much, had to be one of my favorites <3

message 54: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (amandac3) The book was overall pretty interesting. I really liked the concept of Panic but the contests felt rushed. I'm not too sure what the tiger symbolized even though she seemed to put heavy emphasis on jt .

message 55: by Grace (new)

Grace I couldn't put down this book!!!!!!! I read it in one day because I couldn't stop reading! I liked how at the end the when Ray swerved out of the way they found the tiger....but at the end I wish she would have said a little more about what happened, but overall I LOVED this book and i'm defiantly going to read more of Lauren Oliver's books!

One of my favorite characters is Bishop! I loved the plot twist when we found out he was a judge! I also really like the qualities of his character like how he's always there for Heather

message 56: by nik (new)

nik | 1 comments Overall, I really liked this book. It had a ton of action and suspense; however, was kind of predictable. We knew either Dodge or Heather was going to win in the end and Bishop and Heather were bound to get together. Still, I liked the theme and characters a lot more than I suspected at the beginning.

message 57: by Lauryn (new)

Lauryn (booksfordayzz) | 4 comments Simply amazing! There will be a review up on my blog on Friday, hopefully.

message 58: by Liv (new)

Liv (oliviareadstoomuch) Agh, the ending was so not what I expected. I felt like it was too rushed and somewhat predictable. I was kind of disappointed that Heather actually split the money in 3 anyway, though it was a kind gesture for Anne at least. I liked the part when Nat had to face the tigers that was pretty intense. And Luke appearing at the end wow talk about unexpected. This was a nice book, overall :)

message 59: by Cassie (new)

Cassie (cassieburr) | 9 comments I liked the book but didn't love it. I felt like there were a lot of holes in the plot. Like what happened between Luke and Dodge? The lack of conclusion between Anne and Krista's custody battle. What happened to Dayna and maybe Ricky? There could have at least been some better foreshadowing. But despite all of that it was a lovely read.

message 60: by Oliver (new)

Oliver (thisqueerboy) I really liked the book... UNTILL THE END!!! I still liked it but the end was really kinda lame. And I didn't like. It just didn't end well. a LOT of things didn't resolve and I wish it had. BUT I liked the book a hole lot except for that!!!

message 61: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (happy9398) | 13 comments I really enjoyed this book! I'm really glad Heather and Bishop ended up together. The suspense on the last challenge was awesome, I was so scared she was going to die. Although the end did leave me with some questions it's still better than some how Lauren Oliver's other books leave you with a ton of unanswered questions. Overall, I'm still enjoying every Lauren Oliver book I've read so far (which is all of them)!

message 62: by Ariel (new)

Ariel (arielbissett) I finished this yesterday and have kind of been just sitting around in my thoughts. I'm going to keep this post really short (because I don't want to reveal all my thoughts before the liveshow!).
I enjoyed the last portion of this book more than anywhere else.. the pieces were all in place and as it all started to come together it felt really intense and exciting! The whole car ordeal was super crazy and the tiger, man! THE TIGER. I'll be talking a lot about that Tiger in the liveshow.
I agree that a few things were left hanging, but overall I wasn't looking for a deep book here.. I enjoyed it for what it was: a cool showcase of crazy challenges!

message 63: by Isabelle (last edited Mar 20, 2014 08:47PM) (new)

Isabelle (isabelle257) I really liked this book and gave it 4 stars because it kept me hooked and I just couldn't get enough. I loved how fast paced it was with showcasing only the important events/days for the storyline and I would absolutely recommend it.
But I didn't like the ending.
Actually no, I LOVED the game's ending, it was just great and I think the book could have made it without the last chapter. I would have dealt with imagining what was to happen next. I felt like that "epilogue" just left me with an incomplete end and with questions (as other mentioned but also some that I haven't even seen in other people's comments). But my biggest question was, I mean : HOW DID THESE TWO COUPLES GET TOGETHER? I know we saw it coming in the last chapters but I wish we would have had more details on the unfolding of the love stories not just "hey look, few weeks later two happy couples have formed, but you'll never know the details ;) " even though we spent the whole book hearing about how one felt for the other and waiting for it to just happen already. But I guess it's just my own curiosity.

Also, I just never connected with nor liked Dodge. I feel also pretty alone on that boat. That guy kind of scared me and I don't even understand him still being friends with the other characters (even less so dating one) at the end. He SERIOUSLY tried to KILL someone out of a crazy obsession of revenge and almost got Heather killed in the process. How can that be boyfriend material(or even friend for the one he almost killed) just a few weeks after the attempted murder? I don't think it's as simple as tying him up so he doesn't do his plan to make him back to psychologically stable and acknowledge that what he was about to do was horrible (when up to his last chapter he still seemed to think he was doing the right thing). I still think he deserved a happy ending but I felt like it was kind of rushed and he didn't even feel the slight guilt about what he almost did.
(bear with me if they're mistakes, english is not my first language!)

message 64: by Tara (new)

Tara (spity368) | 6 comments I loved the ending! There were some questions that I still had(like what happened to Dayna and Krista and did Anne get her Tiger back and does Dodge not care about his revenge anymore?) but I don't mind them being unanswered. The end of Panic scene where Heather slowly walks down the street with everyone watching and petting the tiger was so badass. The only thing I wish was in the ending was some sexy scenes with Heather and Bishop;)
Thank you Lauren Oliver!!!!!

message 65: by Rebecca Jane (new)

Rebecca Jane (bec3sjhdbzljldsgwsm) | 19 comments Like most people, I think the ending left something to be desired. I would've liked to have gotten some more insight on what happened after the joust, what happened to everyone, Heather and Bishop's conversation and Nat and Dodge's conversation...All in all I really enjoyed this book, but I wish the ending had more details.

message 66: by Rinki (new)

Rinki Debnath (covertocoverbookreads) | 2 comments It was a fun read!! With all the games being played and the level of danger being showcased , I have to say the book was filled with excitement.
yes , when the Nat asked Heather to use Bishop's car, That was remodelled by Dodge for an explosion, I had my heart in my mouth!! And when the explosion did happen I thought she would die! Ofcourse it wasnt the end, Lauren Oliver craftly included the tiger till the very end.
All in all it was a very good read. Again I would thank Ariel for having this Read-a-long , for otherwise I doubt if I would have read the book , immediately after its release.

message 67: by Marija (new)

Marija (marijanikolic14) I really liked this book! The ending was good, and I'm so glad Heather won! I do wish that we could've found out what happened to the other characters like Dayna, but overall, it was a good ending. I have to say, this is probably my favourite Lauren Oliver book. It was so exciting and I am so sorry it's over!

message 68: by Brenna (new)

Brenna | 7 comments I really loved this book, except for the ending. It didn't have the same feeling as the rest of the book. I think she just should have ended it when Heather won the challenge. But i still loved the book :)

message 69: by Freya (new)

Freya Elliott (frazzleselliott) | 10 comments this may sound crazy but my favourite character was Diggin I thought he just seemed so nice and everyone had this mutual respect for him.

message 70: by Ditta (new)

Ditta Reads (ditareads) | 9 comments I was so afraid when Nat took dodges keys because i thought that for sure heather would end up in that car and die, or that someone would die in the explosion. I was almost yelling at Heather that she had to check the car when she thought something was wrong. But she didn't die and I did feel very relieved because of that.

I just liked the happy ending even though I think the book might have been better if it ended somewhat different. But the happy ending was nice because i just liked Heather and Lily so much, didn't want anything bad to happen. :)

Loved how the tiger was part in the ending and how Heather pet it. I could see it so clear in my head, it was just a great scene.

Overall the book was very good. The story was fast paced and I did like the characters (mostly Heather and Lily). And the challenges. They where just great. I loved them. And the whole concept was just very nice.

I'll give this book 4 or maybe 4.5 stars. The book was really nice and I'm excited to read more books by Lauren Oliver (since I only read 2 books, panic and delirium)

message 71: by Nicole (new)

Nicole Chicoria I am 20 pages way from finishing and I just don't know what's going to happen ahh I just want to know!!!

message 72: by Elena (new)

Elena (elenathegreat) | 1 comments Really enjoyed this book. But I'm still confused who was following them when they were in the house. Was it Little Bill Kelly or Ray or....?

message 73: by Nicole (new)

Nicole Chicoria I finished the book and I have to say that Lauren Oliver has redeemed herself in my eyes for Requiem. She is a very beautiful writer and I look forward to reading more of her books!!

message 74: by Chloe (new)

Chloe (blondiesbooks) | 5 comments I loved how it ended where she knew that her world wouldn't be perfect forever, but she could just live in that one moment and be happy. This gave us the conclusion readers wanted without it being cheesy that everything ends up okay.

message 75: by Angela (new)

Angela YEAHH I caught up and finished :D This was way different than what I had expected, but it was a...goodish different.

message 76: by Amanda (new)

Amanda Leon (amandaleon) I didn't really dig this book and I say this as a fan of Lauren Oliver. Anybody else feel the same way?

message 77: by Izzy (new)

Izzy I liked the ending. The imagery was really good, and it didn't give too much information. Heather was my favorite, and I'm glad she won. The imagery with the tiger and the smoke during the Jousting was AMAZING!

message 78: by Maria (new)

Maria Stanica (andmarstan) | 3 comments The Joust was not as exciting as I wanted it to be. I wish that it had been from an outsider's point of view - from Heather's, it was blurry and confusing and it was hard to tell what was happening, so it lost it's effect. The ending was a bit too happy for my taste - it tied up way to perfectly considering everything that happened in the book. A little bit cheesy.
But I did enjoyed the book as a whole! :)

message 79: by Kellseigh (new)

Kellseigh I really, really enjoyed reading this book, but I was SO disappointed by the last chapter. It felt too cheesy and happy-go-lucky for me. And there are so many things I'm still wondering about... Was Vivian the other judge? Why was she at Bishop's house that morning? How does Dodge react afterwards to his kidnapping?? Like, at the end everyone's friends again and he seems totally normal? That just seems too perfect without an explanation.

My other major issue was the fact that Panic wasn't shut down by the end of the book (unless I missed something...?). It feels like a glorification of stupid, dangerous stunts because they will teach you to be brave and win you money and friends. I didn't like how they sort of encouraged Lily to jump at the end... like, I get that sometimes you need to do things that scare you, but the Panic events were just plain dangerous. Maybe that makes me a total buzzkill, but oh well, haha.

The rest of the book I really enjoyed. A lot of people are saying they didn't connect well with the characters, but I didn't have that issue. The concept was intriguing to me, and the writing style didn't blow me away, but it certainly kept me gripped throughout the novel.

message 80: by Tiffany (new)

Tiffany Teeler | 8 comments Well, the end was alright too me…. it was a pretty basic ending! But I must admit that I actually liked this book a lot, I mean come on i finished it in a day! Although this group thing helped a lot it was really fun made me set goals for when i sat down to read (off topic sorry) anyways, although I liked the book it was predictable. I noticed that everybody figured things out after the first 100 pages than the next, before they were reviled. I am not sure who my favorite character was but I know for sure it wasn't Nat… I'm not sure what it was about her, I guess the beginning made me not like her. Dodge, his intentions were really scary towards the end, when he tried killing Ray. LIKE WHAAAAA are you thinking. I felt like he was becoming not 'okay' with his sisters conditions but was realizing that there was nothing he can do about it. I guess I would say Bishop was my favorite so mysteries, yet caring at the same time! although we knew at the beginning he was behind the whole panic games. And last of course Heather… I have no words for her. she really frustrated me when Bishop was trying to talk her about being a judge and she just would not stop freaking out. If only she gave him two seconds to explain herself that she would realize how stupid she is being.
But, all in all… I loved the book and I really enjoyed this book read along group.
WHATS THE NEXT BOOK GUYS IM READY(:

Jbb Lim (jbblkh) I have never read any of Ms Oliver's book before. My verdict. Great adrenaline and a feel-good ending! I like it!

message 83: by Tris (new)

Tris | 1 comments Honestly, I didn't love any of the characters but I did LIKE Bishop even though he's a judge.

message 84: by Saloni (new)

Saloni (salpal77) | 2 comments I really liked this book! I agree with a lot of people that the ending was a bit rushed and wanted to see a little more of Bishop and Heather's relationship besides all the fighting and awkwardness.
I wrote a full review here :)

message 85: by Lizzie (new)

Lizzie (lizziehiu) | 2 comments I thought this book was good but not great. the characters were good and I kinda guessed that Bishop was a judge half way through the book. I wanted more for the ending, like to learn more about their future. But it was a good open ending book that you can continue to imagine a better life for the characters.

message 86: by Hope (new)

Hope | 3 comments I have unanswered questions but overall i LOVED it! But who was the other judge? What happened with anne? Does Dayna ever walk again? And some other ones but i found myself skimming sometimes so can someone answer these questions because im too lazy to look back in the book but did Ray die? And i dont understand the while thing Dodge & Ray did with the taking people at night thing... But i liked that Heather & Bishop ended up together bc i was totally expecting heather and dodge to be together

You should read Delirium!!!

message 89: by Madison (new)

Madison (maddie_e) The ending of this book was rushed, and I rarely like my books that way. But for Panic, it just WORKED. I loved that the joust is in the last, like, 5 pages of the book, because the length makes it possible that Heather COULD die, and the car WOULD blow up. I loved the relief I felt when in the last couple of pages, Heather declares that she won. It was extremely satisfying.

message 90: by Addy (new)

Addy | 1 comments I liked the book but I felt that too much was left open like ....
Bishop and heather relationship
Dodges sister

message 91: by Maddie (new)

Maddie (beyourshelf) | 1 comments I liked the book well enough but found the ending kind of predictable. I read a lot of comments saying people believed she would die in the joust but I didn't see that coming. Over all it left a lot of questions and I felt the characters lacked a lot of dimension. I guess I would have liked to see better relationships from them.

message 92: by R4Reader (new)

R4Reader | 25 comments I want to know why Bishop refused to go for Heather before? Was it just cuz he was confused or what? Did he realize his love for Heather much later?

message 93: by Brooke (new)

Brooke Boom | 3 comments I think that he realized his love for heather much later!

message 94: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (bookworm1987) | 11 comments This was a slow starting read for me. It took me a while to actually even like the main characters in the book. I did want to see who won the game. It got 2 1/2 stars from me it almost got 3 by the end. But I definitely liked "Delirium" a lot more.
