Lys (lysrowan) This is the March monthly reading challenge.

March is a magical time for me because it is Spring break, and usually things start to warm up a little outside. However, lots of people have created/discovered plenty of reasons to love March. This challenge is inspired by those ideas.

How many of these special ideas can you "honor"? Have fun finding things to fit. :) I think for these, the most fun comes in the explanation, so please take the time to give your reasoning, where applicable. :)

Some of these holidays are not /truly/ "National", for more information on them, you can check Wikipedia, Google, or my sources: holidayinsights.com and nationalwhateverday.com :)

Mostly, this is for FUN. Go have some! :)

1-3 Easy
4-6 Medium
7-9 Hard
10-11 - Wow!

March 3 is "I want you to be happy day" - Read a book with a character who acts selflessly for the happiness of another. (This might be harder than it seems).

March 6 is "National Frozen Food Day" (by decree of Ronald Reagan) - read a book with a frozen food on the cover.

March 8 is International Women's Day - Read a book written by an author who identifies as female.

March 8 is also National Be Nasty Day - Read a book narrated by an antagonist or villain (or one that has split narration). If you can't find a good choice for this, read a book with an obvious and very nasty villain who really drives the plot.

March 10 is Middle Name Pride Day - Read a book that features an author or character that shares your middle name (it doesn't have to be his/her middle name ... it could be first or maybe even last).

March 14 is Learn About Butterflies Day - read a nonfiction book about butterflies or any book with a butterfly on the cover (there are lots!)

March 14 is ALSO National Pi Day - Read a book with 314 pages. Or a book with a pie on the cover, or a book about math.

March 15 is the Ides of March and the first day of the Roman calendar. It is famous due to Caesar's stabbing by Brutus (after he was warned by soothsayers). Read a book with a major betrayal, or a book where a character comes to harm because s/he ignores a warning or good advice.

March 17 is Saint Patrick's Day. Read a green book, or one written or set in Ireland.

March 26 is Make Your Own Holiday day. Read ANY book you want and then post how it fits the holiday you would create! Good luck creating one that someone else hasn't already made. :)

March 29 is the Festival of Smoke and Mirrors Day - This is a day about illusions and magic. Read a book featuring a magic-user or a character who is highly deceptive and gives incomplete explanations of things (such as an unreliable narrator).

This challenge runs from March 01-31. Good luck!
