Goodreads Librarians Group discussion

Hi! When looking for "Crimen y castigo" ("Crime and punishment" in Spanish) a lot of editions come out, many of them with the same author written differently, thus corresponding to different authors.

I don't know if GoodRead's policy is to maintain all the options and merge them or to correct them, but can anyone fix this mess?

This is unfortunately one of those Russian names where there are multiple preferences for spelling his name in the Latin alphabet.

I've combined most of them into the main profile, particularly where there are no book covers. With the one with the obvious cover and spelling, I've added the other variant to the book so that they can be combined.

Required a bit of playing around, but I believe I got there in the end! :)

There is also another profile amongst those which technically should be kept, so I've put in two authors again where that's happened.

Anyway, I think I got them all! There's now over 1k editions there together, and I separated some that didn't belong there earlier, too! :)

No worries! If you see any more, just let us know, cos I think there might be a few more that need doing in there... Trouble is, the main profile is hard to go through because of the number of editions (there's 13+ pages on the combine page), but I did all the other combines I could see when I was searching by title!

I don't know the book "White Knights" so I will stay away to avoid combining editions that are not equivalent...

Done! Also sorted out the other one that was on that profile.

And no worries - I will have to mark it down on my "to do" list for sometime in the future!
