Doctor Many incidents, deeds and their consequences constitute man's life. But some stand out crying to be counted.'A Temporary Matter' of Jhumpa Lahiri speaks of one such incident in the life of Soba and Sukumar, the young couple of Indian origin in America.Soba's first baby turns out to be still-born. This gives their life a bad turn nibbling into their everyday joy and peace of mind leading to a declining relationship between the protagonists until one day they had to see each other through a few dark evenings."Something happened when the house was dark. They were able to talk to each other again." writes Lahiri.
The point of discussion is: What is this 'Something' that darkness offered them to break the ice between them that light did not offer?

Redwan Orittro I think confessing in the light was much tougher as opposed to darkness. First of all, darkness spares oneself from looking at the other person.

Doctor I completely agree with your opinion. Alternatively, I would take it to a different level altogether where the physical and abstract levels coalesce, even transmute. Could be, their existence in a prolonged dark patch after the momentous incident helped them develop an eye to see things in the dark that normal eyes fail to see, or see in the light only.
