Doug Shidell I have a quiet upstairs office with lots of windows and a clean, uncluttered space.

I do most of my writing up there, but on one occasion I had to write a story on a three day deadline. The story was written: In an AirBNB after a five day bicycle tour; In the basement of in-laws after driving 200 miles to attend a funeral; in a small town library after another 200 mile drive and just before meeting my nephew for a trout fishing trip.

V.M. Sang (aspholessaria) | 230 comments I prefer to get my tasks for the day done before beginning to write. I can then concentrate solely on writing, so it's usually the afternoon.
I prefer quiet to write and so retire to my study and my pc. The study is also shared by my husband who also sometimes works in there, too, but I prefer it when he doesn't as he has a habit of interrupting me!

Jane Shand (janeshand) | 66 comments I try to do my chores first then write before lunch. I have a tiny box room as my study, I am surrounded by books. I usually do reading and social media in the afternoon. Though if I didn’t hit my word target I ‘ll do more writing.

Jorja Grael | 1 comments I would like to write in peace and quiet, but that doesn't happen often. My preferred time is early morning, but I keep a notebook with me and jot down ideas all the time. The early mornings are for transcribing these ideas onto my computer while fighting off the cat. He's jealous of my computer!

Erica Miner (emwriter) | 12 comments I'm lucky to have an office of my own with doors that close me off from the rest of the house. I need to work without noise and distraction. I don't allow myself to sit down at the computer in the morning until I've done breakfast, exercise et al. Then I just keep writing till I drop.

Hákon Gunnarsson | 21 comments I'll write pretty much anywhere, kitchen, bedroom, living room, out in the garden (preferably when it is not raining). Just anywhere. I don't have a single preferred place. It is more about getting peace to think, and write.

Yolanda Daniel (yolandafayedaniel) | 11 comments I like to write in my bed. But really I'll write anywhere. I have written on my phone waiting in line at Starbucks.

Kela Calvin | 17 comments I love to write with the music playing.

Me too, but it can be tricky. The music can start to influence the writing. Once I was trying to write a love story with Rammstein playing because the music had worked well with another story had written a few days before. But with a love story, no that didn't work. :-)

Ann Crystal (pagesbycrystal) | 51 comments The garden.

message 61: by Jade (new)

Jade Newcastle (jade_newcastle) | 6 comments My ideal is writing on my laptop in a quiet room, but I've definitely written in less optimal environments if inspiration strikes

message 62: by Ali (new)

Ali Ings | 7 comments I write at a desk I made myself. If people are home, I put white noise or nature sounds on with noise cancelling headphones, but if I’m alone I don’t bother.

message 63: by Sterling (new)

Sterling Kirkland (sterlingkirkland) I write Mon-Fri from 11am to 4pm in my home office. I'm used to spending most of my day in front of a computer, so when the world shut down for covid, I sectioned off five hours per weekday for writing time. I crank up some music and get the voices out of my head :-)

message 64: by Riya (new)

Riya Joseph Kaithavanathara (riyajosephkaithavanathara) | 17 comments laptop, a comfy wooden table and a sink-in chair with complete silence, only the sound of my mind should be heard, that's my ideal writing environment.

or somedays it is most close to nature and peaceful, if we can sit silently in our balcony or terrace with preferably laptop and look into nature and then slowly listen to your mind.

message 65: by John (new)

John Anakwenze | 103 comments I write in a quiet environment on my iPad, preferably outside my base surrounded by nothing but an isolated building in the middle of nowhere.
